An idea for your rear doors on transit. Buy 2 of the upper lock pins, less than $ 50. Us add a extruded cross bar . It secures the doors and you can add a awning at the rear over the doors. The same as the side but no poles needed.

Thanks for the suggestion, can't quite visualise it though. Do you mean a bar to go across from one door to the other when they're open? Any pictures you can link to something similar?

Greetings from Canada! Longtime RV-wannabe. At 70-plus, LIKELY to remain that way... 😞 Watch as many KZbin "van" construction series as I can - vicariously fulfilling my wanderlust through them. I "found" your series almost by accident, and have, as of noonish EDT-GMT-5, watched them all. MUST freely admit, my appreciation of your always growing efforts, sourcing skills, and frankly construction expertise has flourished with EVERY new episode... FWIW, cannot wait for the next chapter. HOWEVER, and NOT to be rude, are you thinking of, planning for, willing to share the "build costs" as you head out OnTheRoad??? It appears to this ol' penny-pincher you have "shopped" wisely, NOT relying solely upon the least costly, in favour of the best value products... Cheers from the land of the Maple LeaF, Robert

Hey Robert! 👋 Wow thank you very much and hope you enjoyed watching them all :) And yeah we've been keeping track of all the costs we've put into it so we might do a post or video on that at some point. We've tried to save money everywhere we can and always shop around, but on some things we figured it was worth not skimping too much so that we have hopefully a nice useable van for many years to come 🙂

I use a $4 shower curtain and it works fine. I was really thinking about a shower door, but kept putting it off and then said to myself Why ? The shower curtain works. Just have to be mindful of the bottom corners. Then I just hang it up around the head and it dries pretty fast.
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
Yeah a shower curtain is a fine and nice cheap way to close it off, we considered just doing that for a while. But for us we decided the door made sense as with the heater blowing air in we didn't want it it blowing the curtain around, and makes it work a lot better as a drying room keeping all the hot air in

Hi guys 👋🏻. It’s great to see one of these screens fitted eventually so thank you 🙌🏼. I’m surprised you didn’t drill drainage holes in the bottom of the sliding rail instead of the side…. This way you’ll be able to seal in one side and around each hole to keep it watertight. Maybe there’s a reason and I’m not seeing it or one of your followers offer some reason why not to. Great work and loving the series 🤘🏼 Daz
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
Cheers Daz! And we couldn't do drainage holes on the bottom as the rail sits directly onto the bottom batten of the shower frame, there's no gap. Some people install them set back a bit and hanging over the shower tray in which case that's what you would do. The water can also drain along the channel and out under where the cartridge sits, so we haven't had any problems with drainage in the months we've had it in and it's nice and watertight 👍

Another nicely done job! Aren't these shower doors great? Our original choice was the Nautilus door, but there are other suppliers - as seen here! The rollup door gives so much more open space. Our shower also will have to double as a dry-room for the rainy days, so our MaxxFan actually partially protrudes into the shower to get rid of the moisture directly (the door will also be 5-6 inches shorter than the opening. How do you find the quality of the door? Did theis ship within the UK? How much for this marvel? Cheers from Germany and stay safe! 🚐☁🍀
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah they're great, really nice and compact so you hardly notice it's there when it's open, and we don't have a track from a tambour style door getting in the way on the inside. We've found the quality perfectly fine, the magnet holds it in place great so it doesn't open or anything when we're driving, the squeegeeing works really well and we haven't had any leaks, so yeah, can't complain! We paid about £280 all in with shipping for ours, and yeah shipped to the UK but they deliver worldwide. They've actually given us a 5% off code that anyone can use after seeing the video too, details are in the description/pinned comment if interested. Hope your build is coming along well 🙂

With time you will probably find that larger drain holes or slots will work better. They tend to clog up easily.

Just discovered your KZbin channel and saw a video about solar power and also that you cleaned it with soap. As far as I know you should not clean solar panels with soap as this leaves a film behind and makes the panels less efficient. It is best to clean solar panels with distilled water for the best effect.
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment :) We use a little bit of dish soap but quite diluted, it's what renogy says to use on their blog: www.renogy.com/blog/solar-system-maintenance/. But we make sure to rinse it down thoroughly afterwards so haven't had any problems 🙂
@edwinkrikhaar7223 Жыл бұрын
@@SelfBuiltStories You're welcome. The solar panels will also continue to work and you will not notice it at first, but after washing the soap will leave an almost invisible film on the panel, which will eventually reduce the efficiency of the panel, which is a pity if you can prevent it? Through my work I sometimes helped with installing solar panels and the first thing the mechanic tells the homeowner upon delivery is not to wash with soap, take advantage of it I would say😉 These types of systems are widely used here in the region for cleaning solar panels, (without soap then)😉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a56zk3d5qrl9h6c

brillian and meticulous work as always, you two. Just one thought I had, though; were the drain holes a little high in the trench?
@SelfBuiltStories Жыл бұрын
Cheers! And it's hard to see in the video but there's a little lip on the inside so the holes are pretty much the lowest we could get them, and also to allow space for the bead of sealant. Water can run down the channel and drain out under the cartridge area too though so we haven't had any problems with it 🙂

@KR-ls8ggАй бұрын
Just wondering why you didn't mount it on the inside of the shower walls? It seem like you would have more room to enter.
@SelfBuiltStoriesАй бұрын
It would have taken up more space on the inside and left some awkward shapes as the cartridge would have stuck out into the toilet area, so we wouldn't have been able to tuck the toilet flat against the wall and probably would have hit our knees when sitting on it. It fits exactly inside the edges of the frame so gives us maximum space inside and a nice flush outside face to the van too 🙂 It's narrower than a house shower but still plenty of space for us so we've never found it a problem 👍
@George8sn8 ай бұрын
Can i ask what size your door is? Width in particular, ours is likely going to be 47cm wide but its really hard to tell how wide the roller space takes up
@SelfBuiltStories8 ай бұрын
Sure, we ordered ours 1800mm x 500mm and option C. Our opening in the wood frame was 50cm and with the roldour in place we have an actual walkthrough opening gap of ~38cm when the door is fully open after all the door hardware is in place. That's *just* enough for us to get the toilet in and out 😛 They have a page here which lists all the measurements as well: thedour.co.uk/pages/roldour-measurements-fitting 👍
