Hi Doctor, my brother has focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. He has edema and albumin level is low in his blood. Do you have any special dietary advice or is it just fine to follow what you have said in this lecture? He was diagnosed with this condition 2 months ago and just went completely vegan 2 days ago after seeing your lecture. His doctor tells him to eat egg whites to compensate for the low albumin levels in his blood. I really appreciate your work. Thanks.

Dr. Hashmi, thanks so much for the education. I am a 70 year old male and I was diagnosed with CKD 3 months ago. My Dr. strongly advised me to immediately start a plant based diet and to eat less red meat. My GFR was 29 and after one week of diet change it bumped up to 35. I made the decision to go 90% vegetarian and eat fish a couple times a week. Ater 2 1/2 months my GFR is up to 48 and headed in the right direction. My Dr. says I am on the way to regaining lost kidney function. I dropped several pounds and feel more energetic. Thanks again and I am a firm believer in what you are saying. I am a dialysis nurse for almost 12+ years and have worked with a number of "nephrons' and I think you are just amazing . Your video has full of great information that I will certainly bring into my practice. What really caught my attention is when mentioned about sodium in dialysate bath that can be a cause of thirst for HD patients when they go home. I just believe it is about time that dialysis here in the US switch to the practice of using saline free dialysate bath; most have not even heard about it, but this is done in Canada and I believe some in Europe with a specific HD machine. Great lecture and will share this with my patients.

Every time I see many people and families struggling with CKD, I feel very sad because I cannot make them understand the fact that traditional Chinese medicine can cure CKD, which is a regrettable thing. Traditional Chinese medicine has been passed down for thousands of years, and our prescriptions have been passed down for hundreds of years, but still few people know us. At present, most of our CKD patients come from the introduction of old patients, but still cure dozens of people every year. This is a joyful thing, and I hope we can help more people in the future.

My 14-year-old Siamese cat was stage 4 kidney failure. I took her off commercial cat food with carbohydrates in it and put her on a strict meat diet. I gave her daily fluids subcutaneously and she lived to 21 and 1/2 years. 7 years longer than her prognosis. We retested her kidneys every year and she actually went to stage two after 2 years and stayed that way until her final year. My other cat got diagnosed stage 2 kidney last year and I put him on subcutaneous fluids and his kidney condition went completely remission. I think it's the fluids. Chronic dehydration. My ex-wife is a vegan. She was tired and sick all the time and had to get an ankle replacement at 42. I tried to be a vegan with her but it was making me feel crappy. She also struggled with weight and was hungry all the time. Recently I switched to a carnivore diet where I eat nothing but meat, fat, salt and water. When I stick with it I feel amazing but when I add add chocolate or any kind of sugar or fruit. I start to crave sweets and I have sugar crashes. It takes me a few days to get back on the program and when I do and I get into ketosis I feel so amazing and I'm never hungry.

Depends on a lot of factors, I believe mostly enjoyment, having control and no surprises stress, or demanding ppl around. For me keto is kind of stressful, I love my rice, so make a combination that works for u, and establish your boundaries, not what society tells u. Sex is horrible, very stressful, after I permanently removed sex and men that hoped sex from me, my life is sooo much better, no more anxiety/depression cause I'm in control, no more tolerating manipulations, or demands, and my health became awesome, vs before, always ill. Yet society says "sex with men is healthy", it's not, not for me, follow ur body, forget society, everything is just general advice.

This is extremely bogus “advice”. It’s not about salt or fat, it’s about carbohydrate. Carbohydrate produces fat in the bloodstream, and leads directly to high blood pressure as it produces inflammation as the carboHYDRATE holds onto water (and salt). If you were to cut empty carbohydrate (sugar and flour, pasta, bread, etc.) you would NEED MORE SALT. This sort of nonsense in this video is based on the assumption that you are addicted to carbs and won’t give them up, and so what can be SOLD TO YOU that may help a slight bit. If you cut carbs and add fasting (easy once you cut the carbs) then you have a good chance to heal yourself completely.

I did appreciate this fantastic lecture , summarising complexe interactions in 45 minutes was not easy . I am specialised as agro biochemical engineer in foods sciences & dietetics , I am also MD, dermatology specialist , although Mediterranean diet is promoted as something universal .. it does not apply properly when it comes to subsahariann african diet and culture . It is important to understand foods is connected with culture and traditions .. so one will need to adapt his “ so called “evidence nutrition based medicine advices accordingly . Finally I wd like to highlight this crucial point : one of the biggest failure of western civilisation resides in its agro food industry .. We have privileged quantity vs quality ! Top of it nutrition is not taught to medical students … and we have the audacity to swear upon Hippocrates memory ? is hypocrisy …. & non sense ! therefore bon appétit to everybody ( subscribed ) .

This video was so helpful to clarify all the confusion around what foods to have or not have. One question that came to me is what kind of artificial sweetener were you mostly referring to? And Is erythritol, monk fruit or stevia considered bad as well? Thank you Dr Hashmi! :)
@jimiboi87 Жыл бұрын
What I understoodfrom what he said, was that he didn’t say anything about the artificial sweetener being bad in and of itself, but just that it’s less satiating than sugar, so you’re more likely to eat more of your meal. 🤷🏻♀️

A recent study has found that erythritol has been linked to blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, and, in some cases, even death. a lot of monk fruit sweeteners are blended with erythritol. This is what I've read lately. I had just bought some and threw it out. It's not worth the risk to me.

Thank you Dr. For the very informative video, it was an eye opener for me. My wife was a vegetarian and I cooked all her meals for her while I had a stake on the other burner for me. Among other things my salt intake was more than it should of been and not enough water as well. Needless to say it caught up with me, make long story short I discovered protein in my urine, so got on a high water intake.and started on a vegetarian diet and cut back big time on salt.

I was recently diagnosed with having Proteinuria (small amount) but my GFR went from 58%,51%, 37%,47% and now back up from what my primary doctor stated last week,60%...I am also an diabetic but has always managed to keep my diabetes well under control. I was taking Losartan hctz 100mg and my new primary doctor think this was the issue with my kidneys. I too have switched over to plant-based diet and since I definitely feel so much better but my sleep pattern is very crazy though.

Have you looked into your vitamin D3 levels, apparently (only if you are low in D3) people with chronic kidney disease, who are diabeteic but don't smoke, benefit from taking D3, as it removes protien from the liver and stops scarring. Very important to check with your doctors first and get your D3 levels checked.

12:00 Potassium, eat green, have a banana, lower blood pressure. Low protein diet (.6 ) grams of protein per day. Source of protein? Whole grain (white rice, cook, keep in fridge b4 eating) the carb sugar does not absorb. Dont obsess over protein. A little serving of red meat, but choose vegetables sources. Red meat is high in Carnitine, whicj causes kidneys to fail quicker. GFR gets better - Limit sugar, sodium, flour. Increase fiber consume to 60 grams.

I was told told something simple today by my husband! Who learned it from his father and it was the simple statement “ The body was not designed with sugar in it” ☺️ you are taught you have natural normal glucose levels and he just said the statement “ the body was not designed with sugar in it “
@Photologistic2 жыл бұрын
He’s right in a sense. Sugar is the worst thing you can consume, and the highly processed grains are just sugar to the body. The doctor in this video is calling cheese a “processed food” he’s a total nutcase, it’s a whole food. Do not listen to his idiotic advice. Your body makes all the glucose it needs, from fat. It only needs 1 tsp of glucose in the entire bloodstream. The vegetarian diet is a very bad idea, it’s nutritionally inadequate.

Hi doctor, thanks for the enlightening lecture! It was truly a joy to watch. My husband was diagnosed with IGA nephropathy last year. It was discovered by chance after he did a regular health check up and higher than normal protein in the urine was discovered. It’s currently in early stages but since the diagnosis, we’ve been doing a vegan diet (abt 80% of the time) and also working on reducing sodium intake and reading labels on everything. However, because we’re asian, a lot of food is traditionally high in sodium. I noted that you mentioned that we don’t have to worry abt sodium intake if we follow a whole foods plant based diet. I was wondering if you could share a bit more about why that is and how that works! Thank you so much for your time :)
@SELFPrinciple3 жыл бұрын
Very important point. When I say plant based, I mean a minimally processed whole-foods, plant based diet. Soy sauce is loaded with sodium and will make the proteinuria (protein in the urine) worse. You want to minimize salt.

Dr. Hashmi, I beg to differ with your statement about soy products. I have been deadly allergic to soy protein since childhood 1968 around the time it was first put on the market. Consuming soy protein sends me into anaphylactic. It means high respertorial rate, severe asthma, hives, rashes, itching, stomach pumps and hospitalization. I have been reading ingrients in packaged foods since I was 8 and I'm now in my late 60s. Just because something comes from a plant or grows from the ground doesn't mean it is good for the body. Soy protein is deadly for me. But we all know that the soy industry and its GDP impact is too big to tell the truth. In the 1990s there were independent long-term double blind large studies indicating prepubity girls can start their menses earlier than normal and young boys can develop gynecomastia. Since then the industry have funded studies to contradict these findings and flooded the medical industry and other healthcare entities with its studies in an effort to burry the independent studies. Some independent studies found that Phytoestrogens, a component of soy products, have estrogen-like properties, and in large amounts can lead to gynecomastia. One PubMed study concluded that "while soybeans and soy-derived products can be an important source of nutrition for some, those with abnormal sensitivity to phytoestrogens may benefit from limiting dietary soy consumption to avoid potential adverse effects, including gynecomastia. PMID: 33818045 DOI: 10.1515/jpem-2020-0397 or Case Reports J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab . 2020 Dec 14;34(4):521-525. doi: 10.1515/jpem-2020-0397. Print 2021 Apr 27.
