I appreciate the fact that she asks the questions and then lets him speak. In America, the interviewers often talk through the entire interview, giving the guest little speaking time. I think she did a fine job. Perhaps those who don't like her need to tune in to some American interviewers to fully appreciate what they had in Ms. Selina.

You are all right. That woman was Selina Scott - she was insufferable back then. I took my father rather unwillingly to see Neil Diamnond at Wembley Arena this year. I was prepared to be bored rigid but it was one of the best concerts I have ever been too and am now a fan. Big up the Diamond...

Selina Scott was born in 1951 so only 10 years behind Neil. She was 40 in 1991 when this interview took place. She had issues about being a victim of misogyny. IMHO the opposite was more likely. She was promoted and given opportunities way above her capabilities. Her resemblance to Diana and "posh" accent were the main reasons for her rise to fame.
@user-ns3vi4xs5x3 жыл бұрын
She's been lamenting the sexism she experienced whilst on BBC. Here is an example of how she used her looks and body language to flirt, and isn't the innocent she claims to be. Neil is to be praised, a professional with TALENT. Something the BBC know nothing about. Yes Selina was a plank.

To the comments below, the interviewer seems like she's fishing for something to talk about but not long enough to have an actual conversation jumping from topic to topic. I've seen Neil Diamond doing a long interview in Australia which went really well and he seemed comfortable and the interviewer was good though I don't remember who it was. This forgettable. But for Neil.

If anything, I get the impression she isn't very familiar with his music. She was asking some questions to satisfy her own curiosity that his true fans already know the answers. Examples: asking meaning of _I am, I said_ & inquiring about the frog motif. I don't think she's being rude so much as naive, a bit girlishly bashful, genuine & trying her best. She's _very_ pretty. Her features reminds me a bit of a young Xaviera Hollander. He seemed at ease in the interview. He's a very kind person & it's evident. He's real & humble & easy going. Just had a funny thought. Can you imagine Neil being all pretentious with dark shades in an interview & all on edge & ornary & defensive & sarcastic, making an interviewer feel as if walking on eggshells like some people we've witnessed over the years ir being clearly drunk or high? Lol *Never in a million years!* It's ironic he stated recently he's been such a people pleaser that he's not completely sure of who he is cuz a raw & real person such as he is rare...only other with that level of confidence & relaxed _Here I am_ personality that I can immediately think of was Harry Dean Stanton.
@johncook72815 жыл бұрын
I think you have a point. She talks about I am I said without knowing that there is a frog in the song. That is she mentions or he does about being lost between two Shores New York and LA and yet doesn't know that there is a frog in the song.

I don't think she knows anything about Neil's music. She describes lines from "I am I said" about LA and New York but doesn't realize the line about the frog is from the same damn song.

This woman did a very nice job on the interview. She could not have been more respectful. The fact that there is so much criticism of her suggests americans. The american public education system is way past terrible, and most americans are incompetant in English, so they have like a 3rd grade understanding of English. They don't even know the woman is being respectful because they don't understand the language. No wonder their country is cirlcing the drain.
@Khairabar6 жыл бұрын
For someone with so much to criticise about use of language, you should be looking a lot closer to home... Serendipity, American, incompetent, circling... All these words you have mis - spelt. Not to mention bad grammar such as "like a 3rd grade understanding...", "way past terrible". Honestly cringe worthy. I am not American, I am Irish, and I can tell you for certain, this interview is beyond awful, beyond ghastly - well done Diamond for not snorting! Kbn
