I totally stumbled across this but I’m so glad I did, it has so much beautiful imagery that reminds me of The Last Unicorn (1982) and the sequence with the butterfly/moth flying away into darkness really reminded me of Labyrinth (1986). Came here straight from instragram when I saw a post about it. We always support stop motion beauty here! This was so great! Worthy of the old folk tales and stories. You don’t touch a selkies skin! It only leads to poor ends. The fae take none too kindly to it! I loved your use of fabrics in this film, giving such a tactile feel to it! This is probably one of the most beautiful adaptations I've ever heard. I think this is one of my new favorites. I i've always loved the story of the selkie My family used to tell a couple different ones. My dad always felt like it was Irelynn's way of explaining children born with dark hair after a raid from outlander. It was a way to give the other dignity and a way to give the child peace. That being said a lot of people were very superstitious about dark haired, dark eyed people in early Ireland. But that's a different story. My grandfather used to call my grandmother, his sealkin lady because she had black hair and black eyes. He was red haired with green eyes. My father ended up with dark brown and brown eyes. Our whole family calls us his seal women's children as a joke after my grandmother and my father passed away. I got a tattoo on my leg of this spirit of the sea in honor of them.

SPEECHLESS??? i’ve been pretty into selkie folklore for a good few days now and doing lots of research and finding content about selkies, and i come across this BEAUTIFUL mv?? i believe i’ve seen your stop motion work before, and it is MASTERFULLY done here and absolutely enhances the themes of the song and the music in general. speaking of, the music itself is just stunning. i especially loved the part where the man sings, and there’s a male backing vocal that sounds so ethereal and haunting, it’s just- AHH i can’t get enough of it already!!!

This music video reminds me of the folk story "Kópakonan". The story originated in the Faroe Islands. However, with the legend says that the women married the man and had children with him. One day, the husband left the key to a chest (with her skin in it) at home and the wife took the opportunity to put back her skin and reunite with her old lover. She never came back until a few years later when she appeared to the man in a dream. She warned the man not to kill the big bull seal (her lover) and the two pups he was protecting in his next hunt. He didn't head the warning and ended up killing all three. That night he cooked them up for dinner. In a crying rage the seal woman appeared in the mans house as a troll and placed a curse on him and his whole village, "Here lie the head of my husband with his broad nostrils, the hand of Hárek and the foot of Fredrik! Now there shall be revenge, revenge on the men of Mikladalur, and some will die at sea and others fall from the mountain tops, until there be as many dead as can link hands all round the shores of the isle of Kalsoy!" Ever since then men from the village would drown at sea. Both stories are beautiful
