Happy Freelance Friday!
Hi! I’m Carrieblogger, a full-time career freelancer on Fiverr Pro. Since I started in 2013, I’ve built up a sustainable, consistent business with a six-figure annual ‘salary’. I work as a copywriter and branding consultant for small to medium-sized brands around the world.
What's your sell me this pen best answer? Maybe it's better just not to ask the question at all. Sales strategy and marketing for beginners does benefit from 'silver bullet' proverbs, but this one question won't teach you how to sell anything and everything to anyone at any price. It just won't. Whether you're getting into affiliate marketing, digital marketing, network marketing, social media marketing, or personal marketing to get the best freelance jobs, this sales hack doesn't cut it. Learn copywriting with a deeper, more nuanced approach. If you're curious how to start copywriting, don't cut corners with a copywriting tutorial and digital marketing course built on a meme! Content and copywriting skills are complex; as a freelance writer or digital marketer, you need to lean into the personalized complexity of the advertising industry. Business ethics make the challenge even trickier and so much better. Content marketing is the key to business growth strategy, and in order to learn how to market your business, you'll need a lot more than just a pen.
Dan Lok, Andy Elliot, Patrick Dang, Teach Me To Sell, Jordan Belfort sell me this pen Wolf of Wall Street guy... let's just... not... okay?
Learn how to make money online and work from home as a freelance copywriter like me! Whether you're building a freelance copywriting business or selling another skill online, freelance platforms like Fiverr are changing the future of work. Now you can monetize your talent and learn how to work from home. Freelance copywriting on Fiverr is my absolute dream job - hands down. Great point! I have waited a long time for someone else to stand up & say something about this intimidation selling strategy. It's impractical, bc I selling is a 2-way street. There must be a demand for the product as well as the ability to deliver a quality product.

An awesome analysis of the "Sell me this pen" challenge which always bothered me. I agree with you that this isn't good long term and won't help us to gain the skills needed for serving our customers the right way. This does apply everywhere and especially for freelancers so this was helpful. Nice seeing you analyzing comments on the video by Dan Lok! Funny stuff! Thank you for sharing this, Carrie! An idea for a video would be to analyze the selling strategy applied in the movie - The Pursuit of Happyness! That movie tells us to know your customer and be their buddy!

Very Sharpie, Carrie! I like the way you come aCross story ideas for your videos! In this one Biccing apart tools we ink with to Paper Mate those with used car salesmanship skills, all to Pilot a narrative that Derwent so smoothly it sure did Parkers another CarrieBlogger punch. Loved the video. For those who disagree, Crayola me a river.

I like what you are saying here Carrie. Well explained. ;) Although the sell me a pen strategy and the pushy salesman stereotype works. Why ? Charisma plays a huge part in it. If Di Caprio wants to sell pens, he will. Then, it's just a matter of personal ethic and values. And this is clearly where you standout as a copywriter.

I fully agree with you on this. Please tell me how you manage to do all of this together. I was recently working on 4-5 orders at once and got completely burned out. Do you use the limit orders in the queue function? Also, it takes me a decent time to assist the buyers who come in the Inbox. Have you set some specific time to answer all of the Inbox messages? I know it's a lot of questions. Please let me know your thoughts. Your great tips are one of the reasons behind my Fiverr success. Many thanks :)

I think that amongst the points you mentioned it is also important for people to understand that you can't get over the top sales with just only "awesome sales tactics" but having a great product is also equally important for generating more sales through repeat customers and recommendations. Sure, it'd be great that you sold the pen but if the pen is just heavily flawed you might just cutback your future sales which would be counter productive.

Yeah haha just because you can sell the pen doesn’t necessarily mean you should.

Trying not to ruffle feathers lol I’ve intentionally avoided all his stuff and only skimmed this vid at 2x speed before getting absorbed into the comment section. So basically, I’m 💯 sure I agree with that, but I’m keeping blinders on for my sanity right now. 😶‍🌫️

"Sell me this pen" is almost the modern-day equivalent of "sell me this abacus." I mean with cell phone, tablets and laptops, it can be argued that pens and pencils are outdated. We shouldn't be trying to sell pens anymore than we are trying to sell an abacus.

I can't wait for the "sell ice to an eskimo" video follow-up. Lol. In all seriousness, great breakdown! I think it's important to recognize that long-term manipulation doesn't favor your customers. They'll become skeptical sooner or later (if not immediately) when all your techniques revolve around fluffing up something to make it sound better than it is. There may be a few hidden lessons from the saying, but it's a hasty generalization and an over-simplification to see it as the gateway to sales success if you master this one gimmick.

Some of the clips in the video make you think, oh really "Sell Me This Pen" every one is a born sales person it is inbred in each of us. Children are best at being sales people. Though @Carrie you make a great argument with the explanation your used.

Babies and children are like evolutionarily cute and soft and sweet smelling so that they won’t get abandoned. That might twinge your heart to make you pay $2 for crappy lemonade from their stand but it doesn’t make them good sales people 😂😂😂 /lh (/lh is a tone indicator for lighthearted)
