With the gurgling sound coming from the AIO pump block, I have encountered that issue quite recently with an iBuyPower 120mm AIO and i fixed it. I'm Michael from Ghana , West Africa. You have to first totally disassemble the cpu pump block. You'll first notice some galvanic corrosion(greenish) in the liquid used for the cooling which would mostly likely be ethylene glycol. The gurgling sound comes from the free floating galvanic corrosion particles coming into contact with the micro fins of the copper cpu block. You'll probably notice significant galvanic corrosion in the micro fins of the cpu copper block which has clogged up the aio. This prevents the liquid from circulating within the AIO, hence, not being able to cool the CPU leading to very high cpu temperatures. To fix the issue, you need to drain the all the liquid in the AIO. Then clean the cpu block with toothbrush ,dish soap and water. The micro fins are the most important part to clean to ensure maximum circulation in the AIO. You would need a razor blade to swipe across each individual lane of the micro fins to force out most of the galvanic corrosion blocking the flow of liquid. The tooth brush cannot fit between the individual lanes of the micro fin and thats why you need to use a razor blade. After adequate cleaning of disassembled parts, make sure each part is totally dry and ready to be assembled. For the liquid coolant replacement, I wanted a PC coolant in my country to purchase but couldnt find some anywhere so I resorted to using distilled water as the coolant replacement in my aio. Yeah I know galvanic corrosion will occur in my aio because of mixed metals(copper cpu block and aluminium radiator) but its been silent and fine for 3 months now. Hopefully you can follow my guide to fix your broken aio. There is no need to throw away that which can be fixed. Thank you :)

CPU AIO coolers typically have propylene glycol (diluted with distilled water), which is less toxic than ethylene glycol, but ethylene glycol has better cooling and antifreeze properties. That's what car radiators use. Give it a try. It shouldn't harm anything.
@arc00ta Жыл бұрын
Its not just that, the coolant also leeches through the rubber hoses on these older style coolers and eventually the pump just starts to cavitate because there is too much air in the system. I have 3 or 4 of those exact same Corsair AIOs in a box, I drained two of them and got like a teaspoon of coolant out of them, and like you said it was all nasty and gunked up. Newer units seem to be using something else, maybe tygon? I don't know but it isn't that permeable rubber anyways. I used to tear them down and clean them and then use some standard PTFE tubing on the barbs and refill with distilled water and some additive, but its not worth the hassle with how cheap they've gotten now.
@michaelopare4477 Жыл бұрын
@@Bunta1987qwerty Yeah you're right. Propylene glycol is common with AIOs whiles ethylene glycol is common with car radiator cooling. I read up on how ethylene glycol was toxic so I didn't mess around with them

@arc00ta Жыл бұрын
@@michaelopare4477 Yeah this is why those 120mm AIOs are silly, they barely work better than a regular cheap air cooler and add so many more points of failure. But if its all you've got, some 10mm tubing, zip ties, and distilled water you can have it going again with a little effort.

Just to be clear to everybody, The AM4 Wraith Prism can fit on older AM3/3+ and I believe AM5, because it's a clip on style. The other AM4 coolers (Stealth and Spire) which are screw in types, won't be compatible with AM3 boards.

I'm fiddling around with an FX 4300-based tower my mom left at my house. This thing was running LOUD and HOT and had never been cleaned! So far I've added an intake fan, an exhaust fan, set more reasonable fan curves with Fan Control, changed the thermal paste, removed the ODD for better ventilation, added an old GeForce 730 from a prebuild on which the motherboard passed away, upgraded RAM from 8GB to 12GB, tweaked some stuff in the BIOS, and now it runs quiet and does what I need. Mostly it's a TV box for my projector so nothing too intense and it does the job fine while no longer burrying the audio with its crazy cpu cooler fan noise nor is it making the room super hot anymore!

Great stuff as usual Danny! That looked like a pretty good deal even without the AIO. I recently bought a GPU down in Montlake Terrace - was supposed to be an OEM 2080 Super, but turned out to be a 2070 Super. I wasn't too sad because the price was INSANELY low and the seller likely didn't know. Even the FCC/model number on the back of the card came back to a 2080, but oh well. I need your mobile testing rig! I had mine but forgot the power cable at the last minute. Great stuff!

If the AIO is old, the copper fins on the top of the base plate are probably clogged with particulates and oxidation. I spent probably 4 months messing around with an Asus 990fx sabretooth, a Gigabyte 970A-UD3, and an Asus 970 pro gaming aura. Out of all 3 the highest clocks I got on my fx 6300 was 5.1ghz on the Gigabyte board with a 360mm AIO. I also ended up having to throw a fan on the northbridge of both the 970 gaming aura and gigabyte. Though it didn't win in my testing the 990fx sabretooth was supremely overbuilt, absolute tank of a motherboard that didn't need extra cooling for its VRM or chipsets.

That AIO is clogged up. Galvanic reaction caused by dissimilar metals making contact causes rapid corrosion, and the chemical reaction breaks down the propylene glycol. In fact, in my experience, NZXT coolers have this issue too. I've had to replace the fluid in my H1 factory AIO, and the microfins on the inside of the block (inside of the coldplate) were totally gunked up, and it wouldn't flow. It shut off as soon as it tried to boot into windows. I relaunched to see temp in bios, and it was about 80C. flushed everything, and replaced with Corsair fluid. Still running fine, but it'll probably happen again in the future.

So, About the Motherboard not supporting boot from NVME- I've had some success by installing the bootmgr to a SATA SSD, and installing Windows to the NVME. This works because window's bootloader is located on the drive the the bios supports booting from, and the OS is stored on NVME.
@lm_dccxl4078 Жыл бұрын
late comment but, i have been an owner of multiple gigabyte 990-970 chipset motherboards, and the problem on not detecting your nvme drive as a bootable device is the wierd bios the oem made it. it has a lot of quirks and bugs that they never tried to fix, because they have very specific scenarios, like in this case. if you use another adapter, like the startech ones they usually work. but not with nvme pcie 4.0 compliant.... theres also a bug on usb devices, like not detecing some usb heaphones, xbox 360 controllers, android phones, etc, if they are connected on a usb 3 port. and the most tipycal, the one were it doesnt detects the last ram slot if you suspend the system, until you reset the pc.
@Viking8888 Жыл бұрын
FYI, you can use that pci-e/nvme setup as a boot drive on those old AM3/AM3+ motherboards if you use Clover bootloader on a USB drive (or any drive, really). Clover was designed for use with a Hackintosh, but because it boots Windows, Linux and MacOS independently, it works great for older PC's that can boot from add-in cards . I have an old Gigabyte AMD 970 based mobo and went through the same thing but was too stubborn to give up without a good result....sometimes being stubborn is a good thing! It was probably combined with a tad bit of OCD as well. 😜

G'day Danny, Cool this Motherboard works, the "Clip On" AMD Coolers like the Prism will work with AM3/AM3+/AM4 using the correct plastic mounts, but the Spire/Stealth & the Plastic Mounts/Backplates are not interchangeable as the Cooler Mount Holes are slightly different on AM4. I am fixing a i3-2120 + Z68M (???) + 8GB-DDR3 PC that crashes loading to W10, I thought it was the OS HDD as it would post to BIOS fine & even sit there running in BIOS no trouble, so I changed the drive & still the same, turns out it is the Motherboard 🤷♂???, I was able to get the OS HDD to Auto Repair (so no data loss) & run with the same CPU + RAM on my testbench using my ASUS Maximus V so everything else is fine, the owners just use it for surfing the net & storing photos so I'll just get a replacement H/B LGA1155 as they are only $30-$40AUD + 240GB SSD $27AUD for the OS, I have lots of 1155 CPUs & DDR3-RAM so I'll just swap those to an i5/i7 & 16GB plus the small SSD will make it a lot faster in W10 & the original HDD will be fine for storage of photos or whatever & will get them out of trouble for cheap.

Had a situation recently with a Ryzen 5 5600X over heating sporadically. Turned out to be the AIO even though fans were running and I could feel the pump running and water circulating through the hoses. I removed it, repasted and reseated it, but still vary poor temps. Other things can keep the AIO from working properly that are not detectable by observation. Had the same experience. In the BIOS at idel, temps started to climb steadily often. They were much higher than they should have been at idle. Installed a Wraith Prism I had which I use as an ad hoc cooler and temps at idle were down to 32 to 35 degrees rather than 60 to 80 degrees.

Which is bad because unlike CPUs, GPUs dont have a heat spreader. *You have to spread the thermal compund yourself* to get full coverage; PROPER coverage. Put it all back together and played the same game and voila, -20C on the hotspots. EDIT: the paste I used was some rando tube I found lying around. You dont need the best of the best to properly cool a GPU/CPU as long as it's spread properly.

So i have one problem. I have i3-3220 and at idle in bios it shows 35°C(stock cooler) and when it boots us if i leave it for few minutes booted in windows it jumps up to 65-70°C.(i use hwinfo for cheching temps) I changed thermal paste about 2 days ago and its same.Im not sure if that is normal or should i be concerned about it?

That AIO is likely out of fluid or about to be.

Hi Im new here, love the content, been trying to try my hands at pc flipping as well. Wanted to ask about your test setup that you showed in the beginning. Are you using a battery? Hows your experience with it? Are you able to also show customers the working pc from your trunk?

AIO-s can die of "old age" if you didn't know
@nerdonabudget Жыл бұрын
Yea I'm aware of that, just seems coincidentally odd that it just died then and there. To the owners knowledge it was last working before he sold it to me and I didn't do anything to it from the parking garage to when I got it home. It all works out though, because I don't have any need for the AIO, and would have bought the bundle without it

@@nerdonabudget People leave old parts lying around for long time and don't pay attention when they sell parts. He probably haven't seen temperatures just heard its working. Anyway nice video

Love your videos. I tried to use my m.2 attached to a pcie adapter as a boot drive on an older mobo and was unsuccessful. I contacted a forum that I belong to and was told that you can not boot using this method. I mounted it on my gigabyte mobo and it booted up fine. Did you find this as well?
