Yeah did quite a few FG2/SZ screens for black screen (didn't have as many issues with screens in FGX/SZ2 running SYNC 2), sometimes I could run a software update on IDS and the screen would come good if not it was an replacement job. ASL Automedia were the ones who refurbished/exchanged for dealers 👍

You don't have to go with thoughs head units anymore. When I first purchased my FG xr6 falcon the only available head unit was Kayhan top mounted head unit. And It sucked, although it was still better than the original factory head unit at the time available. Now theirs an entire new double din redesigned aftermarket centre control unit. That allows aftermarket Head units from Sony, pioneer, Alpine, Keenwood ect to be placed underneath the air vent in the control unit. And the climate controle buttons placed over the air vents. Best move i made was selling my money pit FG XR6. Transmission problems from 100,000 ks onwards from the bs 5 speed automatic they put in the esrlier models.

Yes the 5 speeds are junk. There’s a few good kits to convert to zf these days without a full loom swap

Yeah the Bluetooth modules suck as well. Both BT modules in my old 08 FG G6 and current work runner SY2 Terri have shit themselves. The BA/BF 'premium' ICC's go to shit as well. The Terri's ICC AUX inputs drops out (known problem) but its fixable by a solid punch to the ICC unit anywhere you please every 10 minutes or so!

One thing to watch out for is, the start of the part numbers. Even though the Territory has the same screen the are 2 different types. My fg mk2 started with AR29, the territory started with AR79, the rest of the part number is the same on both units. It does work but not 100%. Still better than nothing. Mine was bought on ebay so you take what you can get.

I’ve got 340k on my G6 now (owned since new) and no issues at all. The FG1 screens are easily swapped for another good screen - just take the screen module off the top and swap it. You can also swap in a colour screen ICC from a G6E or lux pack XR, and it will work with your CD player module swapped into it. Just make sure you get it from a similar build era to your car, as the firmware changed over time, and an early one in a late car makes the aircon run shit (ask me how I know….)You may need to play around with swapping the AC buttons, or simply have it programmed to the colour single zone software to work correctly. In the ones I’ve swapped for mates, I just swapped the buttons around, and the LH temp buttons don’t do anything. With a colour screen you can easily add a reverse camera too.

@@Diddydudat km indicate the amount of vehicle use, and also indicate how much vibration, bumps etc the screen is subjected to, which all adds mechanical wear to the joints and connections. You would expect a screen from a low km car to be more reliable than one from a high km car (once the initial “warranty time” has elapsed, removing all the manufacturing failures from the gene pool).
