Redryno23, I tested a Reference 54 against my current sax (which is a SA-80 II). I found it to have a lot more life in the sound, more breathy. It was awesome. Another one I took to test play was a Rampone & Cazzani R-1 Jazz. Its keywork was perhaps the most comfortable I've ever played, it fitted into my hands like gloves. And the tone, was as awesome as the Reference. Hope this helped you!

This was 8 years ago... that roof must be fine... and your skills must be even better... anyway. Nice demo. If you're gigging somewhere let us know out here. You've got some crazy skills and don't just put it into the roof.

That sucks that you have to sell it. I have that same saxophone that we bought back back in high school. It's an excellent sax, although I haven't played in 2 years. :( Also you bought it for 5800? Have they gotten more expensive? Mine was 4400.

If money was tight a new hi-end sax should ahe been on the back burner. Time to get some financial planning advice. Should always have money laying around for home maintenance and upgrades FIRST. Material items maybe 2nd or 3rd. The sax should be a drop in the bucket. (e.g. $100k laying around MAYBE buy the 54). Even then it might not be a good idea. Perhaps when you have $250k available. As some home repair or upgrade projects can easily approach the $100k mark.
