And if I have to be honest I would like to be able to sing the first verse of our national anthem "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" (Germany, Germany above all) just because of the fact that it was never meant to be about germany being the mightiest country but instead about the time germany finally united in one nation. Before that we were a giant cluster fuck of uncountable dukedoms and so on, each with their own currency, ... Even the national anthem of the DDR (East Germany) is pretty nice. And if the Brits are allowed to sing "Rule Britania" and no one feels bothered by it, we should at least have the the right to sind our first verse. But that's just my opinion.

I'm sure you can hear the sounds of their guns The voices of maggots trying to resist. Stomp them out! Stomp them out! Men, what is our mission? Extermination! Not a single enemy is spared! There is only one thing to do: Create a living hell! Why do we advance deeper into the flames? Charge head on into a rain of bullets? What a ridiculous question! It's for the sake of the empire! To the battlefield! The front lines! Then the edge of death! Show your commitment born from casting your life away! Offer your loyalty! Your obedience! Then your very soul! Offer every fiber of your being, rising a triumphant shout! Go forth! Prove that we can build A pile of bodies that can reach the heavens! Fire! Barrage! Fire! Go! Attention! Take Cover! Get down! Final cries... clouded eyes... Ahh, those are the things I truly seek! Peace and tranquility, let alone reconciliation, Are the acts of domestic dogs who've forsaken their fangs! Sheer madness, brought on by despair and disturbance, Sounds more like Paradise than it does Hell! Those four limbs are made for dancing. They're made for dancing madly! Humans are worthless! Everyone fighting here is worthless, So show them that your fruitless lives can still bloom! Law and order... are constructed by madmen. Nothing but a farce. Utterly absurd from the beginning to the end! To the battlefield! The front lines! Then the edge of death! Show this commitment born from casting your life away! Offer your loyalty! Your obedience! Then your very soul! Offer every fiber of your being, raising a triumphant shout! Go forth! @saitamaro69692 жыл бұрын
Actually Schlacht can also be something like a battle, its not quiete literally slaughter Edit: to explain a bit further "Die Schlacht" means pretty much "the battle" While slaughtering something is more like "Die Schlachtung" So Schlachtfeld means pretty much Battlefield

@Nerex72 жыл бұрын
@@saitamaro6969 There is not only a "similarity" to the word "slaughter" in German. The word traces back to that specific meaning, we just adapted it for different contexts as well but the original meaning is pretty much slaughter. There's a whole lot of words that do this. Take the word "toll" for example which now means something positive, something good. Well, is "Tollwut" something positive? No. Because the meaning of the word "toll" never changed in that word and context but it changed in general speech. I've encountered a bunch of words while studying Linguistics that are like this. In Germany you call it Bedeutungswandel. A very good example is the word Hochzeit (back then written 'hôchgezîte') which used to mean any sort of festival but now is only used for marriage. It's quite interesting to trace back the history of a word. Sometimes two words sound the same but have a different origin (take the word "Tau" meaning either a rope on a ship or morning dew, very unrelated things) while some have one origin but developed different meanings, like Schlacht.
@saitamaro69692 жыл бұрын
@@Nerex7 Very cool and very nice but that doesnt have anything to do with the word Schlachtfeld Schlacht never meant Slaughter, Schlachtung means Slaughter. Those are maybe similar but dont mean the same Schlachtung and Schlacht is clearly not the same word and Schlachtfeld 100% translates to battlefield not to Slaughterfield, Schlachtungsfeld would mean Slaughterfield or are will and will in english the same words? Im pretty sure they never even shared the same origin despite being written the same So I will repeat once again Schlacht = Battle Schlachtung = Slaughter in fact slaughter is more likely "Schlachten" because its a verb and not a noun but you got what I mean and neither Schlachten nor Schlachtung are related to "Schlacht"

@@satoriakihiro1283 I actually don't really care. I know what my country did back then was horrible and it's not something to be taken lightly, but this is a show that wants to show Ww2 so of course Germany aka the empire is gonna be in it. Normally in games and shows its always focused on a American soldier going against the Nazis, so it's pretty cool to see it the other way around. Even though the empire doesn't do the evil stuff we did back then, it's pretty obvious we are still the bad guys in this. So if you ask me what I think of the portrayal of Germany in this, I can only say that I don't really care, because it's not really the focus of the story. I did my best to explain this, but since English isn't my first language I couldn't do it as well as I want. If you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

@@jama4456 No, no. Their entire political stance and ethics are WWI, imperials nationals period. Exactly as all the nations of the time acted, nationalism was the fashion of the time and every nation of the world embraced it with a passion. Fascists started appearing in the early 20s in Italy and other nations, but more importantly Nazis, as we think them didn't appear and have power until the early 30s. The precursor of the Nazi party was the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP) that was created in 1919-1921. Then the Nazi party was founded in 1921 with Hittler as its president, but didn't really have any real power until the late 20s erly 30s. At the beginning the Nazi Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, Nazi political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to antisemitic and anti-Marxist themes. At the time of the anime and IRL the Nazist faction - party didn't have any real political power, nor did they truly have the clout to affect the status of the Empire. The national politics are conducted completely in Imperial national style and ethics.

@@afinoxi Well actually, in the 20's people cared very deeply for their country, especially the German empire. People are usually very excited for war until machine guns got made which made the traditional war strategies with using trenches for just a few days than trying to attack useless. Hence why some refer to it as a trench war as they had to sit there for years. This song's lyrics says "Why are we doing this? Running straight in the bullets? It is for our country!". Germany nowadays have no pride at all if you compare it to the germans of 1871-1945.

Back in medieval times war wasn't hated for those reasons because even if you're settled down in peace , you'd still come across the same problems listed above so people didn't care and it was a good way to live but in the 20th century ? Not really.

The germans however, they had a strong economy, one of the best armies and their people had much higher morale and were more nationalistic until 1919. The people supported a war cause because, you may not know it but the german empire's ideology was jingolism (basically nationalism but much, much more worse with things like "I'm born here, so my country is better than yours".
