I like the idea of Selune and Shar being two aspects of the same entity, forever at odds with each other. After all, the brightest light casts the darkest shadow

it is indeed poetic in a way xD

@@arjunkishore4080makes sense. The idea that Selûne and Shar are the same entity is known as the "Dark Moon Heresy"

It would be cool to have it be shar when the moon is black and dark and as the moon waxes and wanes they switch so on a full moon it’s all selune but sometimes you can get that 50/50 chaotic split of both fighting for control

My first d&d character was a champion of Selunné by accident. In the beginning of their adventure leaving Phandelver after the town was destroyed, we all through money to a shrine along the side of the road just to do it. For some reason my character stood out to the goddess. Ever since then she would appear briefly and have very real in memorable conversations. Down the line, We had discovered that there was a very evil entity corrupting some of the deities, and she was one of those corrupted. It was sad because there are a lot of memorable moments in wisdom pass between her and my character, who was a fighter barbarian funny enough. His journey ended with him confronting the corrupted goddess in a church where monks were being tortured by her. He thought he had enough power to best her in combat, but he was very sadly and stubbornly mistaken and lost his life. The spirit corrupting Selunné was then discovered by the party not long after his death and with the help of a powerful mage banished it. Certainly something I will never forget.

14:39 I like how both Selune and Shar both claim dominion over the lost - Shar referring to herself as the “night mother” for example. I have this idea that, in spite of Shar’s bitterness towards her sister, she loves her followers with every bit as much intensity as Selune loves her own. Not opposites at all, but reflections of one true personality.
@VoFALT
@VoFALT 10 ай бұрын
I do like your interpretation. It kind of explains why Shar was so bitter - possessiveness and jealousy over her sister's attention and bond and creative vision. Sort of like a limiting, abusive relationship. It's a good way of making sense of it.
@itslegendlore

That’s what I always wanted to strive for, an explanation for her evil that can be relatable beyond just “oh she’s the dark goddess” xP

@@itslegendloreI think it's even more sinister in a way. I mean shit that's a cruel relationship to be trapped in from Selûne's perspective.

I always admire those who can free-draw characters. I could never do it. I can picture it then when I start to draw, the picture unravels. However, I can look at an image and duplicate it damn near perfectly! I have subscribed!

Thank you so much :) and one way you can use that to ur advantage is if you have the memory to recreate images, maybe photobash a base image together out of several ones so you have an idea of what you want to create and an image to draw from. A friend of mine has the same thing with image creation and this helped him be able to bring his ideas out more 👍

Damn dude, this was super cool, i really like selune and is really a dream of mine to make a Twilight domain cleric mothman follower of selune, being trapped in a dragons den and saved by clerics of selune in a young age when he still was a child constantly praying to the moon, the only thing that he could see in those sad nights as a slave for the dragon

This was very insightful for my cleric of Sehanine as well. I suggested my DM the concept of the trinity moon as a deity a few weeks ago. He is still thinking about it. Anyways basically the trinity moon would be the union of the deities Sehanine, Selûne and Eilistraee each representing specific aspects of the moon.
@itslegendlore
@itslegendlore Жыл бұрын
I enjoy using that interpretation as well for the three of them :)
@Florian0799

@@itslegendlore It goes further Angharradh as the consort deity of Corellon is also in the game. She and the trinity moon also form a singular whole which I for lack of a better term dubbed the dual trinity.
@Florian0799

Addendum: Essentially my elf cleric's home is a theocratic republic and each city worships one specific Seldarine. For example my character's home city worships Angharradh. This city is apparently 3 settlements combined and each of them worships one aspect of her. So Sehanine Hanalil and Aedrie are each present there as well. And with the arrival of the dark elves, I dubbed the children of Eilistraee in my backstory, Eilistraee got into the sehaninic part of the city as well.

I've usually played characters who gravitated more towards gods like Tyr, Torm, or Helm if not outright worshipped them as a member of their respective faiths, but who knew about and liked working with Selune's followers even if their actions were a bit too anarchic for their liking. Most of my Chaotic aligned characters are even more agreeable and amenable to Selune's teachings, but don't outright worship her. That said, this has been most eye opening and I think I might make my character a worshipper of her when I get Baldur's Gate 3.

I like the idea of creating an unsual Aasamir. For instance, could you imagine for instance a Aasamir created by Crom to inspire courage and tenacity in soldiers in war, expect we give it major anxiety, and extreme paranoia. Or perhaps, a Aasamir of Sune the goddess of beauty and passion completely shy, awkward, virgin being sent to Earth to make people fall in love and procreate and having no clue how to do it.

Great video! Also, fun fact. Selune has male followers, too. Male followers are not as common as her female followers, but they do play their part in spreading the good word of the Moonmaiden. I play a male Aasimar Paladin/Sorcerer (Oath Of Vengeance, reflavored as his oath to be her enforcer of divine retribution against the followers of Shar and other evil factions like the Red Wizards. Divine Soul for obvious reasons, but his mother is one of the Shards who fell in love with a human male Cleric.) and I enjoy this character very much. I play him as a kind-hearted warrior who wishes to help those in need and to inspire bravery in those who feel scared or weak and only unleash his divine fury on the evil of the world.

I have no idea where I was on reddit bur originally read Selune and Shar were estranged lovers with Mystryl as their child, so I had this idea about them being two halves of the same entity, separated and being sort of melancholy (self loathing in Shar's case) only capable of self love when they reunify. Then I read the wiki and was like oh .__. what did I read before

I am currently playing a Sun Soul monk reflavored as The Order of the Lunar Mirror, a Selunite monastic order. My character is a Dhampir who survived a vampire attack at a young age and was sent to train with Selunite monks because they would teach her how to control her hunger with discipline and how to help others instead of seeing her as an abomination. It's been a really fun character.

That's all I think. If Selune is a female deity with a predominantly female clergy. How logical is it for a man to be a priest of Selune?
@itslegendlore
@itslegendlore 4 ай бұрын
@@Nathan_Payne for me I believe that even though the clergy of selune is female, they work hard to integrate men who share their values and beliefs and teach them selune’s ways, because on one hand it would be foolish to turn away someone who wants guidance under Selune’s light, and on the other, to insist that an order can only have members of a specific gender can harm the message of peace tolerance and growth they are trying to teach
