Thanks for the walk down memory lane - I was there in the 70's .Hard to belive but it once had nearly 1000 students.

The long driveway to your right was for Wainui Intermediate access with the carpark and staff room situated to the right as well. You actually weren’t allowed to access the intermediate via the College, you had to walk up the driveway or cut across near the college entry. The fire happened in D block which is the top building then C block. The Staff and Hallway where combined with a few class rooms attached to form a square with a quadrangle in the centre The buildings to the left comprised of the Arts department, home economics and specialty classrooms The Gym and Canteen where also combined which I think Maintenance was also there as well

The I shape building in the fire looks so bad damaged where is D Block and C Block after when it got demolished it's overgrowing it's so bad to see you A little bit you cannot go on it but if you go back in time in 2002 after the college close you can see that classic building that's Square building survived the fire The building was demolished in 2012 now

At first I thought this was a geography case study. Watched the whole thing. I went to Parkway College but have performed at the Little Theatre on this campus. One of the high schools in Taupo is similar to this campus and the other Taupo high school is very similar to Parkway. This is a lovely little piece of social geography. Thank you for caring enough to record it.

The primary school was Wood Hatton. I have photos of it in it's abandoned state from 2011/12

Hello - half of what you're talking about was the Intermediate School - the college was entirely to the left of the driveway in those aerial shots you waved the mouse around over. I went to Wainuiomata College from 1968-1972.

This was the school they used to film the first series of Seven Periods With Mr. Gormsby. Unfortunately they filmed the second at the now demolished Petone College instead, which while similar in appearance with many identical building designs is still clearly not the same school from the first. Hilmorton High School in Christchurch has a lot of buildings similar to those found at Wainouiomata College as well, including 3 I-shaped ones, the same hall setup and even one like that set of 3 conjoined buildings to the left of the Wainouiomata hall building. As with Tawa College many of these have evidently been renovated and added on to over the years. Looks like Burnside High has a few I-shaped buildings as well, and 2-3rds of a 3 conjoined buildings one. They used to have a hall/admin block the same, but that got demolished and replaced completely by the one they've got now.

As it happens, one of my old teachers from Tawa now teaches at Hillmorton, so I was aware of that. I decided to not mention it as I thought that just mentioning the ones in Wellington would be enough to demonstrate my point.

Actually the area with the kindergarten now was Wainuiomata Intermediate School and the other area was Wainuiomata College.

Yes, I've had a lot of comments about that. Evidently the sources I used for my research for this video failed to mention that!

From what I remember, to the left of the hall/administration block (Mr Rolleston’s domain) was the art/textiles/home economics/wood and metal classes block. Directly behind the hall was a general class block (form rooms and classes) and the back block was the same although the computer lab was there. The library was the square block.

Hey mate, thanks for the videos. I'm not sure if you've aware but these are two different schools. You have the intermediate and then you have the high school.
@the_alex_ellis_channel69233 жыл бұрын
Nope, I wasn't (I would've discussed it in the video if I had known). The information I looked at when researching this video didn't mention that at all.

@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 Yes Wainuiomata Intermediate School (years 7-8?) was the group of buildings on the right and the College had the buildings on the left. So sad. Even my primary school has been demolished for housing.

It's a shame that schools aren't so easy to visit in Queensland (many tend to be fenced off, and unlike most public property, are subject to trespass laws which have not clearly been demonstrated in court). Would love to visit and mini-urbex one.

Actually when I come to think about it the Hall at both Wainouamata College and Tawa College looks very simlar to the one at Onslow College. But the one at Onslow college at some point I belive has been connected to a corridor and a few other rooms.

I couldn't actually see it myself as I had to lift the camera above my head to get a shot inside. I didn't know what it was until editing the footage.

Alex, I want to thank you. Thank you for bringing some normality to a lift community that seems to be tearing itself apart with every second passing. Thank you for keeping the core of what a lift channel should be about, riding lifts, not this culture of cheating death via riding a counterweight. And most importantly, thank you for being a morally great human being, unlike some other lift you tubers (not mentioning any names). Keep up the good work mate, and best of luck with your job👍😊
