Sen. Moran Questions Former USAG President Steve Penny

U.S. Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) questioned former USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny during a Senate Commerce Subcommittee hearing on Preventing Abuse in Olympic and Amateur Athletics on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Penny exercised his Fifth Amendment rights and was subsequently dismissed from the hearing.

"Don't you feel you have a responsibility to the athletes?" The fact Penny exercised his fifth amendment right to THAT question is disgusting.

President Penny needs to serve some jail time to apologize to the survivors and all whom were directly harmed by Nassar.

As gross as this guy is, what he is doing is 100% legal. One who is being questioned is under no obligation to say anything.

@Thora Friganza again, I agree that it's immoral for him to do this. But because of the Fifth Amendment, he has the legal right to keep his mouth shut.

Go to google search and type in USAG Suspended Members list. There are coaches on that list who have been accused of comminting sexual abuse and are still coaching today, one of them i am personally and partially responsible for turning in and he is still allowed to coach. Even if he is found guilty, he will only get a maximum of an 8 year suspension and will still be allowed to coach under that suspension. When you look at the list, and you see a coach who has been listed as "no unsupervised contact with minors" ask yourself if you would allow your child to attend a gym where those coaches are working. Next, ask yourself how you can find out where those coaches work since it only tells you what state they used to work in (it used to say what state and city). Next, ask yourself who is supervising those coaches who are listed as "no unsupervised contact with minors"?

@@Carolkav101 I wasn't. I am an eye witness to a coach who sexually abused an underage athlete, and that coach is on that list and still coaching.

@@HMAWorldwide1 oh I'm so happy to hear you weren't abused. I was raped at 12 years old by an older cousin. The impact of that has been horrible. I told someone in my early 30's and they didn't believe me. That hurt more. Have you someone you could go to more senior to talk to? These coaches need to be stopped.

@@Carolkav101 Yes, I have already given statements to head officials and investigators for both Safesport and USAG.
