Like what the VCT APAC analyst said, forsaken plays the role differently to other people playing the same role. For example s0m on harbor, he sets all his skills for his teammate to entry while forsaken most of the time uses it to isolate 1v1s and out-aims his opponents. This is not a dig to forsaken, but just from watching his gameplay on harbor (bind matches) you can tell he is very comfortable because he adjust the role that fits him. Instead of being in the back and throwing utils for your entry, forsaken uses his utils for himself (most of the time) to get 1v1s.

THIS! F0rsaken was on a slump, i think after Iceland. He wasn't an effective duelist anymore until something joined and became duelist. But he stayed relevant to the team as a god flex player. I just think star duelists players have so much pressure until they crack. Waiting to see what would happen to demon1 this season

That's exactly what EG did last year, everyone played everything most of the time, they had some comfortable picks that could surprise their opponents like that Sova on fracture from C0M and he delivered.

Bad take. Changing agents, or being in uncomfortable roles does impact player performance. For a player to perform at their peak mechanical skill, the amount of cognitive resources spent on util usage and general macro has to be less. Ideally both should become second nature. Players will always perform better in their main/comfort role/agent. It's not BS. The comfortable role can be multiple different agents, which is unique to that player. Example, good Jett players are sometimes not good at raze but can play controller roles effectively. Good initiator players sometimes are bad at flash initiator but thrive on info initiator. It's different but it matters alot.

Disagree with this. This works so well for demon1 because he’s always played this wide range of agents and doesn’t need a specific agent to be at his best. A lot of these other people have been used to 1 or 2 agents for most of if not all their valo careers. For yay to go from Jett and chamber to viper is a big difference when you’re not at all accustomed to it. Even with tenz it took over 4 months of consistent practice to get better on omen and kayo

With yay though it’s a bit difficult to me because while the performances of late haven’t been good everyone knows he’s still a good player at his best. I just personally think we have yet to see him in a proper role that fits him as a player. For example tenz had a rough year but people know that in a good spot and no outside issues he can still be good and he’s been showing that recently with the move to omen, kayo and yoru. Circumstances play a massive part in a player being able to be good

Any team made around a star player fails. Everyone needs to pull their weight and everyone needs to be flexible enough to fit into the team well. Example: FNC and LOUD. Yes, both FNC and LOUD had star duelist last year, but even they were often playing second fiddle to other players on their teams.

what a lot of people don't seem to realize is that raze is a huge part of the meta today with the return of bind and split and the current meta on lotus. this means that unless a duelist player can play her, they have to be able to flex onto other roles or else they're just dead weight for their team (this is why aspas is able to stay on the duelist role on all maps). sure, teams can try to work around this by using old ideas like double duelist with raze and jett, but then they have to ask themselves if it's worth giving up an extra agent slot that could provide greater utility for the team, especially on defense, such as cypher, or more importantly, viper (arguably the strongest support agent in the game). i think teams are still hesitant to try the current chamber because frankly, it isn't all that great. cypher/kj provide much more value to the team in most scenarios.

True but you need to understand fuel management is very important as a viper. If you see yay playing viper on sunset, you'll notice that he just kept everything going on until the toxin dies completely and then the entire team has to wait for it to refuel for an exec.

I think the biggest issue is not support roles but when you put a star player/aimer onto an anchor role its obvious theyre gonna have less impact having to rotate every round. That said people need to adapt still for sure cant just be one tricking the whole time

While he's right that players need to adapt and sometimes learn new roles, you don't drop seven figures on a player to have them play a new role for the first time ever. Bleed clearly didn't sign Yay thinking that he's bad on the agents he's most known for. This argument doesn't make any sense in this context. The only possible defense of this decision is that they must think that down the line it will somehow end up being more worthwhile to have yay on a different role than to play him on his strong agents or to just sign a different person, which seems like a massive gamble considering the cost and the fact that they're only going to be in the league for two seasons

This is late, but Something is allowed to be on Jett because Jinggg is there. There is no team that can win anything with just a one trick Jett/chamber anymore, they need a Raze player & that’s why Something is able to play Jett because there’s Jinggg to play Raze when they need him to. There’s a reason that they forced Monyet into the raze role when Jinggg was gone because, again, Something only on Jett doesn’t work. And Something doesn’t only play Jett anymore, he also plays Gekko & Fade now which proves Zellsis’s point. As for Sayaplayer, guess what? He also plays Raze, so how is he a Jett one trick? And T1 isn’t a good example because they’re just not a good team. They can’t even win regionally, so why use their system as a good example? It doesn’t make sense. In case of Aspas, and even Derke and Zekken, these ppl have a pool of both Raze and Jett. The thing is, these two agents cover all maps, you can play Raze on Split, Jett on Ascent, and so on. But in case of one tricks, like Tenz for eg, he couldn't do great on Raze, so the maps where Jett isn't ideal, his stats took a hit, and thats when ppl start to think like Tenz is just bad, while its just that the agent isn't as good on the particular map

I mean to be honest , It feels like Zellsis is dropping those hot takes for impressions at this point. Stating that those players are no longer as good as they were after them playing literally two matches is just a rash take based on very shallow evidence. Valorant is a game where it is so hard to be consistent ! You can literally drop 30 in a game and the very next game you go negative so It is just not right to say that those players are no longer good based on just the Kick off event! Also what did Zellsis even achieve in his career compared to those players? in C9 last year , he couldn't even make masters and in this year , they lost 2-0 to Loud and barely won against 100T Meanwhile Yay and TenZ won Masters and Demon1 Championship!

Not being a deadass fan but Tenz can able to do so much more on duelist aggressive agents. But the people around him aren't capable enough to support him or capable enough to understand his way of initiation. They can't properly support him as 1st entry. That's why Tenz have to have adapt to his teammates.
