Sena Impulse Review

After doing lots of researching, and seeing the only three video reviews of this Sena Impulse, I ordered one. It arrives today. And if I'm only HALF as pleased as you are with this helmet, I'll be a happy camper! Thanks for your review, Norm.

Hi Clark, I’m glad you ordered one and hopefully it works well for you. I wore mine again today and still enjoy it very much. The ratchet strap is nice but takes getting used to. Also remembering the button setup may be challenging until you’re used to it. I have other Sena products so I’m familiar with their processes. Good luck with your new helmet.

Thank you for sharing the great review! This just tipped me over the edge to pull the trigger on buying this - been looking for a modular helmet for a bit and the upgraded speakers are what is selling me on it. Glad to hear it sounds great and is quiet at speed! I have a Road King that I generally ride with the Windshield on myself so imagine it will be similar to your experience.

Nice review. I have a helmet ordered. But very likely our SHOEI Neotec 2 will not overcome. The problem is that the built-in Sena is based on Sena 50. And Sena 50 does not allow HD Multitasking: "HD Voice is active only when Bluetooth Intercom Audio Multitasking is disabled ". We will see.

@@NormKohn It can't be fixed. Sena SRL for SHOEI is Sena 20 and Sena 20 has 2 BT chips. Sena 50 has only one. And mesh.

@@igordunajsky3428 hiya mate. With regards to what your saying, what would be your ideal helmet then. I was looking at the Sena Momentum Evo, then discovered the noise issues. So I’ve been looking at this and Sena’s Stryker model, which are due out shortly in the UK. But if there are also issues with this helmet, I’m guessing the Stryker will be the same. Your thoughts would be gratefully accepted.

Hi Norman, thanks for the great review. I have heard from different reviews on Louis, amazon,..., that the helmet is loud at higher speeds. Can you please give us some insight from your live experience on how loud it gets at higher speeds. I have at the moment a c3 from schuberth and it also gets loud when going faster. So with faster i mean 140km/h, not talking about higher speeds. Is it still possible to make phonecalls and listen to the good build in speakers from harman? I would really appreciate your feedback. regards Frank

Hi Frank, my experience with the helmet continues to be a good one all around. Personally, I don't find the helmet loud at all, but I also wear foam ear plugs and have bikes with windscreens so my turbulence is managed quite well . Yes, I hear music quite well and phone calls are fine. The Impulse helmet is streamlined with no exterior box to catch the wind. There is also a spoiler shaped into the rear of the helmet that seems to help. I still like the helmet a lot. Thanks for watching.

Nice looking helmet! I love the built in com system. I have never use a modular helmet and I think I will have to try them one of these days.

@Greatrydes Hope you’re doing well. Modulars are so convenient for getting a drink or some air without having to take your helmet off. They are known for being noisier, however this one is especially quiet for me. So far it has been a great helmet.

@@NormKohn we are doing good just enjoying subfreezing temps in the north! 👍😁 I have stayed away from them because of my chin mount camera and mic. It sounds like I will need to check one out I'm always looking for a more convenient way to get air and drink on my longer summer rides. I hope you are good stay safe!

Do you still use the sound system on the bike? how does that work in conjunction with the helmet speakers? If you get a call does the other person come back on your bike speakers? Can you listen to the same music through your bike speakers and helmet speakers?

I can toggle between the bike sound system or the helmet speakers, but not both. The calls come in through the helmet speakers.

Great video about the helmet. Really interested on this one. How does run in terms of sizes? I heard some Sena helmets run smaller so a bigger size fits better.

Actually I always wear a medium and for me it’s a perfect fit. I heard some say it’s not as long in front. I have no issues with it.

Steve, the rear LED is controlled by the phone app. You can choose from different modes. My flash stays on always and it remembers the last mode.

Great job Norman- Good enough that I almost can ignore you are riding an Indian instead of a Harley 😀 Just kidding my great great grandfather used to race Indians and Excelsiors and I have a trophy of his from 1911 (we think he won on the Indian) he was also asked to train some US Army couriers before WW1- well before the US got involved. My grandfather then went on to race Harleys after his experience with them in the war and we've been a Harley family since. ****They should pay you it sounds like at least 2 of us will buy one of these based on your review. Nice helmet, Norm. I have fitment problems because I am a "long oval" and wonder if that helmet comes in that configuration; Many makers don't. I wear a Arai Signet, my third of that make.

Outstanding & very informative vid. Thanks for sharing your indepth review of your new helmet. How well can you hear music with earplugs at highway speeds? My SENA Momentum INC PRO gets drowned out by wind noise above 70mph. Does your helmet do the same? Also, how well can you use voice controls? On mine, voice controls are useless due to wind noise interference while in motion.

@rainman1356 The three bikes I ride have electric windscreens, so no problem for me to hear the music above 70 mph using foam earplugs. The helmet has a very good sound system and so far no real complaints. The ratcheting chin strap takes some getting used to, but works well. The helmet itself is very quiet and I'm very pleased with it. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the review. I just picked up the Sena Stryker helmet yesterday, which seems to be integrated the same was as yours with the buttons on the side, only difference is that mine is a full-face and yours is a modular. I seem to be having a problem powering, connecting/pairing the helmet. When I plug it in to charge the led light flashes red, then after a while it flashes blue. After a few hours of charging yesterday and many unsuccessful pairing attempts I let it charge overnight. In the morning it was still the same blue led flashing ( I thought the light would have at least stopped flashing to indicate that it was charged). I have the Sena Motorcycle App installed on my phone, but obviously that is useless as I can't even seem to charge the helmet or power it on. Need a little.......no need a lot of help here as I am getting frustrated and seriously thinking of taking it back. If you could kindly tell me step by step how you went about charging, turning on, and pairing your helmet with your phone that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

i found this when i searched your helmet.community.sena.com/hc/en-us/articles/4414787747732-Initially-Pairing-the-Stryker. Alternatively, you can press the second button from the top for 10 seconds until you hear configuration menu, then press top button for phone paring, it should show on your phone. The blue flashing light means it's fully charged and ready for a wifi firmware update, done through the Sena Motorcycle APP. I think you're close to pairing, just need to press the correct buttons. Turning helmet on and off -press top two buttons together for 1 second, helmet says hello. Look at the quick start guide, pretty good hints. Have a little patience and you'll really like your helmet.

how is the the ventilation system, do you feel its a heavy helmets, can it be compered to Shoei Neotec 2 or Schuberth C5 if you have ever tried any of them?

The ventilation system works very well and I continue to be impressed with the lightness and quiet of the helmet. My prior helmet is HJC Rpha 90; never tried Neotech 2 nor the C5. Still very pleased with my purchase.

@@NormKohnhow does it compare to your Rpha 90? I currently have an HJC i90 which is a step down from the rpha 90, and for me it is EXTREMELY loud at speed. So much so that my ears ring when I get off, and that’s WITH earplugs.

@@thebairn The Sena is even quieter for me as the chin bar blocks more wind and the RPHA 90 is more open. I wear foam ear plugs too. I like both helmets and alternate them.

@@NormKohn look at brp oxygen helmitt put sena set up like sena helmit in it for snowmobiling I installed a st1 spyder sena in mine but a factory would be nice very clean it would be when snowmobile the mesh works good usually we ride with about 8to10 sleds in the woods range is limited
