The example i use in conversations about socialized medicine is the VA. Us vets have been dealing with government health care for a decade, and its the worst. I had to wait six months for an appointment to get xrays, that i had to drive six hours to get. Then wait six months to go over the results. Which just led to needing mris, another six months, and six hours down the road. The end result was the doctor saying they didnt know what to do about my back, but they now offer alternative medicine if i wanted to get some acupuncture, six months and six hours down the road. I gave up and went to a proper civilian doctor. Who gave me a diagnosis on the first visit, and gave me a treatment plan that worked and i only had to wait a reasonable amount of time to receive. The problem now is that the government insurance wont approve that treatment plan anymore. So all they can do is get me hooked on opiates. The government is the worst at running health care, and we have a long running example of it with the VA.

Regarding school choice: I've heard the arguments for school choice and it I understand it. I have been pro school choice. But I had a realization. If we let anyone go to any school, there's a high chance that we will allow god awful kids into very good schools. Our son goes to a nice school. It's very diverse, clean, no violence or trouble. Then if all of the sudden kids from the inner city show up and bring their "fighting skills", the school goes downhill and is destroyed. Can someone help me understand why this is worth the risk importing trouble kids? Is there a way to weed them out? It's like living in an apartment with high rent vs. low rent. You keep the rent high to keep the bad people out.

Maybe a perspective to consider is that if a school lets in bad seeds and the overall quality of the school goes down, parents would choose to send their kids to a different school that keeps a higher standard. If kids leave, that means less money for that school and faculty. I assume that the faculty would want to prevent losing students/money, so they'd be motivated to keep expectations high.

It's about free market principles. If your "clientele" is unmanageable or your product is inferior, you'll lose paying customers. The incentive to perform in all areas, including security, is vital to success. Qualified SROs help with this. Real discipline must be maintained. The main reason that inner city schools are failing is not lack of funding, it's lack of discipline, a wimpy school board, and top-heavy administration.

Watching Carolla, and to see his son in this episode 😳. I think I just grew grey hair in my beard. I can't believe the amount of time has passed since since Carolla was on radio and then starting the ACS ACP. Has Sonny said if school is just a waist of his time? 😆

I now consider the humiliation of having to wear Toughskins and Mean Jeans up until 8th grade as a badge of honor. I made my way regardless. I wish they made Toughskins for adults! I'd rock them at 46, all day long.
