Everyone should have a private retirement fund to supplement SS. This has to be conveyed to those just starting out in the workplace. Just $50 - $100 a month over time will pay big dividends in the future. If your company has a matching program, you should invest in that to the max you can. It is free money earned at a 100% profit margin. If you still have years of work ahead of you, find an advisor who doesn't charge YOU a fee but makes a little from your profit. A small amount invested over time with the advantage of compounding interest will yield great results!

Obviously your benefit would be greater than mine which right now barely pays the costs of Medicare. I do respect law enforcement and think the widow portion of this bill is good but receiving 90% of ss benefits from ss with only 10 or 15 years of contributions is what I have a problem with. Thank you for voting yes, Sen. Kennedy. This helps many of the honorable positions in the country obtain the pension rights they earned, including mine - a firefighter. I’m a big fan of common sense and having a brain and you’re certainly one of my favorites for having both. Your state is lucky to have you. God Bless.

Thank you, Statesman Kennedy. I would like to see social security change its guidelines. The disabled people drawing benefits and many who are retired are held far under the federal poverty level. As you have pointed out, money has been given freely to illegal aliens. This has been done while many on SSI/SSDI are living in poverty or only one bad event away from going under. This needs to change.

Thank you, Senator. It's been a long time coming, so glad it finally passed. Many retirees have suffered hardships with WEP and GPO the rules were just so unfair. As you eloquently stated, the benefit was earned, not a government handout. I am sad for the retirees who never received the benefits due them. I feel very fortunate to have our benefits restored. I missed out on four years of benefits but am grateful for a better financial future. Thank you again, Senator Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thank you and the other US Senators that supported HB 82! Senator Cruz should be ashamed of himself. He admitted the WEP/GPO laws were unfair against public servants, but in the next breath said that they, (the government) should fix the social security problem first. The solvency of the social security program should not depend on those of us who contributed to social security, getting shorted on our monthly benefit! For those senators who voted against the Social Security Fairness Act, may you find a lump of coal in your Christmas stocking!

We need to start applying the FICA tax to at least the first 500,000 of income to help with it's longevity issues. And for Pete's sake, adjust the taxable amount of Social Security income , to realistic current day levels of costs of living!

Long awaited remedy! My wife had 20 years as a public school teacher and 7 years as a private school teacher (in addition to other employment that she contributed to SS). WEP cost her thousands in lost benefits. I’m currently going through chemotherapy for stage IV cancer. She would be significantly penalized without my SS benefits boost (without the GPO fix)!
@MicheleB450620 күн бұрын
Absolutely correct! I worked all my life paid into Social Security since I was 18 yrs old. A severe car accident happened to me at 27; left me disabled in my legs. I recovered, went back to working full time in NYC 25 years past the car accident. Then cancer struck which gives you another set of debilitating disabilities! I retired out on SSDI in 2011. My SSDI pays rent, Medicare and Part D insurance. It also covers gas & electric. SSDI is taxed if you have asset remaining, too! I applied for NYC benefits for help twice once my assets dwindled. NO! Twice I was denied help. No EBT, no rent cap, no help with anything! I pay copays for meds, incontinence supply because Medicare covers nothing but hospital stay and physician visits. I live now with about $100 a month. Ridiculous! They’ve been giving my benefits to migrants that are illegal, benefits I paid into all my life for my old age!!! 😖😑 City has no money for ME. I’m almost 63 years old. When is this going to stop? Elders, disabled and veterans are tossed aside. Nightmare!

Thank you Mr Kennedy. My husband passed away in 2015 at the age of 60. I now receive Survivor Benefits from his social security which he worked hard for. But back in June 3 of this year, I had changed my direct deposit to another bank account I owned. But i mistakenly put on the wrong number for the last number. Now all the other ones were correct except for that one little eight. Well, for the last 6 months I’ve been trying to get that check. Social Security says until they return it they cannot issue me another one. I’ve been going or calling the SSA sometimes twice a week and now I’ve been calling any state leader I can think of even called your office once. Speaker Mike Johnson in on my speed dial. I could real;y use a few words to anyone on my behalf. Thank you and as,I told the nice lady from your office you are my favorite I listen to you every day. Thank you for listening to me.

You are always correct Senator Kennedy. He is one of the best that we have. He is legendary and I hope that Historical records reflect the battles he fought for all of us, his accomplishments, his colorful personality, and the completely unique intelligent statements that he made and will hopefully always share his creative ability to speak like no one else. If he were a college/University professor, he would be one of those professors whose classes are always full I would bet on that.

Fairness Act is a special benefit for public workers. You are giving them an enhanced benefit by stealing from the young. Why should certain public workers get a disproportionate 90% match? Almsot $200 billion down the drain.
