Got one in burgundy. If they slapped "civivi" on it, I wouldn't even question it. Impressed for the price. Grabbed one during an amazon 20% off flash sale.

Great video! I got the Actium a couple months ago and it has been pretty great. You would really like the Sencut Scepter, which is is very comparable to the Civivi Elementum.

Honestly, this is what I’m hoping for. I just got into non-gas station knives last year and I love my Civivis so much that I’m eagerly waiting for them to dive into the better steels.

I think they're going to go with 14c28n, which is one of the most well rounded steels you can get before you get into powdered steels. Its one of my favourite steels, so I'm ok with that! Easy to sharpen, stainless, good enough edge holding, and strops great.

I wonder if there are plans for Civivi to become a more premium brand while Sencut occupies the space left behind? If Civivi started using more premium materials and sat in the $100-170 price range that could result in some really nice blades for a good price. Then Sencut would serve a purpose to fill that $40-100 void.

I am a fan of Civivi, I never had no issues with any of the knives I have purchased, never has let me down. Anyway, I never knew anything about Sencut when I decided to order one, I ordered the scepter. When I got it…the packaging and feel of the knife, it just reminded me of WE or Civivi, being clueless the knife over all was great, it opened closed great, the feel the size of the knife was great…It didn’t give me issues when I carried it. After that’s when I researched and I thought…no wonder it just had this Civivi’ish vibe. I just ordered the buttonlock one…I hope it will be good. I very much enjoyed your review, always do 😊 good stuffs!

Interesting. I personally would just go for the Backlash. When Civivi first came out, the Backlash, Praxis, and Najah were around 30 bucks.

Sencut exists primarily to sell through Amazon. At first you could only find them on Amazon but now they sell them through the Sencut website as well, however the caveat is Amazon takes care of the shipping (which was a nightmare for my order). The Actium comes in D2 but the other 2 knives (CITIUS & Scepter) come in 9Cr18MoV. As far as I can tell they have only released the 3 current models. I have one of each and they are exactly what I would expect from CIVIVI, which is excellence. I think you can see what they plan to do with CIVIVI already. They have several new models just released in Damascus and Nitro-V, with more coming in June, and they have their first frame lock model coming soon as well. So a rough estimate would be: Sencut covers sub-$50, CIVIVI is $50-$150, and WE is $150 and up. I'm not sure that I have seen a CIVIVI knife near $150 but they have flirted with the $100 mark quite a bit.

I don't understand the distribution channel aspect of this. I remember hearing this sub-brand was intended for Amazon distribution, but what does it matter? You manufacture a Sencut on the same line as a Civivi and you send it out to Amazon, other distributors, or both - - what does it matter which brand goes where, and what advantage is there to having an Amazon-only brand? I'm sure the answer would be interesting. Maybe Amazon pays an exclusivity bonus or something.

Looking at Civivi’s latest offerings this year, they’re leaving even the $50 price point and focusing on the $60-$100 (just look at their announcement for may and July releases, I don’t think anything offered is less than $60, and that’s at retailers not MSRP). I think the latest budget stuff like the Ortis and brazen and riffle were the last knives they planned to be $50, since it takes at least a year to plan ahead for knife manufacturing. Will be interesting to see what comes out 3rd and 4th quarters of this year and all next year.

I think WE created this brand to come to other countries using Amazon. I live in Spain and to get a civivi I usually need to pay at least 60€ with the shipping. But a sencut cost here 50-45€. So for Spanish people for example it's a deal breaker at least.

When the elementum first came out and you had to check the knife store websites often to get one, I lucked out and found them in stock fairly early so I ordered one. When I got it, it had the same problems. Really gritty feeling and just kind of yuck. I was super disappointed and threw it in a drawer. After a couple of months I dug it back out and took it apart. There was a small bit of rust and it was pretty dry. I cleaned it all up and lubed it with some kpl, and it's been excellent ever since. I assume maybe the shipping container or crate wasn't sealed real well and the D2 didn't handle the ride from China very well. But it cleaned up really well and has been excellent ever since.

I have an Actium which is perfect. I have gotten an Elementum that was wonky. I little maintenance and it’s buttery smooth. Lube in the detent hole is important. You will get a lemon once in a while. Amazon has a great replacement policy.

I agree with you on this. I have one and feel the same way. My favorite part about it is the size. I think the size, length, width etc is perfect. Mine has a pretty nice action, but so do many other 40$ knives (especially civivi).

I wonder if we're going to see any future knives released under the Sencut brand. At the time that they were initially released, most of Civivi's newer models were becoming more mid tier in price, around $75- $100. The Sencut Citius and Scepter came in at around $40, and a few months later the Actium dropped at around the same price point. It seemed fairly obvious that WE Knife was following a "Sencut good, Civivi better, WE best" marketing strategy. But since that time, Civivi has gone back to producting more budget priced knives, along with a couple of slightly more expensive models. I wouldn't be surprised to find out WE decided to drop the Sencut line, but who knows?

I just got 2 and did a scale swap so I could have the burgundy scales with black blade. They’re quite nice. Every bit as nice as any civivi. The packaging and the free spinning pivot are the only places I see any costs cut and those don’t bother me cus the pivot has a torx socket on both ends. I sure do love me a nice hollow grind.

I picked up an actium and citius for 30 bux each when they first dropped. Thay was a wow moment.... then after like 2 weeks the price went up.... then to agree with your points it became blah.... the backlash was already done and they kind of just tried to kick start their brand on a known good model.... price is too high for what they are trying to do (not that it's expensive) just would like to see them wow us with this stuff at the 30 price point. If they keep up that trend it might be hard to keep up with cjrb...

It's interesting to hear you speak to "why 3 brands vs 2?" and "why aren't they cheaper than a typical Civivi?" THEY USED TO BE! I snagged a Citius on their first week of release at that special place you can no longer link. $30 bucks. Not a month later, they went up to $35ish I think? Now they're $40. No idea the cause but over the last several months, I asked myself the exact same question, except I know that it DID used to be different. Now you do, too! :D

My suspicion is that Civivi is eventually going to phase out the $40-50 knives altogether and this is their weird way of trying to ease people into it. It can’t be a coincidence that this and the Scepter borrow heavily from 2 of their most popular Civivi models in that range. Civivi will probably start to focus more on that $60-90 range that has better steels, materials, features, locks, etc. and help bridge people to WE a little more effectively. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them even peek over the $100 mark at some point. I really seem them trying to go after that “Got into EDC a couple years ago and am ready to step up” crowd hard in the next couple years. I do agree that they would have been better off focusing on capturing that $25-35 range, even if they had to resort to using cheaper steels and plastic/FRN. An Aus-8 Scepter with FRN for $28 would’ve made a *killing* and been a much more natural starting point for those on a budget or new to EDC.

I have to say, I miss 440c, Böker still use it, but not many other brands do. Now you're seeing lots of 9cr, and everyone seems happy with it, and everyone compares it to 440c, but where did all the 440c go?!

I figured they were moving these in at $40-$45 so they could gently eek the Civivi offerings up in price. I bought the all black version (on sale) and sent it off to replace the G10 with forged carbon fiber and a replacement pocket clip that omits the protruding bill. So I guess I took an average $40 knife and turned it into a slightly better than average $120 knife (but probably still average for the new price point.)

This really makes me feel better about my newfound hobby of paying $5-700 to reblade $3-400 knives. To each his own, but I feel better about having a 4V xm18 for $850 than I would a $120 knife from a budget brand of a budget brand

I’ve had the black/black version for about a month now. Fit and finish on mine was typical Civivi quality. Very close to a Baklash (which I also have). They feel a bit different in the hand side by side Also agree, I don’t get why we need another brand, this could be the Civivi Baklash 1.5 or something

Yeah, it's conspicuous and maybe suggests the retirement of the old Baklash and the looming exit of Civivi from the under $50 segment to let Sencut take over. Plus they are all about iteration. They make something, then change it a bit and put it out as something else, and again and again. Maybe they catch a new slice of the audience each time, not sure. But look at Sencut Citius vs. Civivi Fracture. Not as close as Baklash to Actium, but enough to make me google it to compare. Lots of overlap.

And all the profits keep going to one company. Exactly the plan. Civivi got very popular so now they want to capitalize on that momentum. In the process, WE knives will up their prices to cater to a market that wants ultra high premium knives while civivi moves into WE’s previously held category. Simple economics, simple business plan.
