Hi Ross. I have a 2-part question for you... 1) You say one reason for making these changes is 'you'll have options to record input effects to each of your tracks'. I'm trying to get my head around why you would do that if you have access to track fx. Then it occurred to me that if it's possible to record a track with 4 i/p fx on stright onto track 1, you could then in theory add 4 additional track fx on the loop, potentially giving 8 fx on the track 1 loop - is that right and if so how'd you do it? 2) I got the RC600 to replace my RC500, separate guitar2bass pedal and other fx pedals. But with that set up I was able (using one source guitar) to record a bassline, guitar chords and guitar line all onto one track which has overdub layers (and all that in SINGLE mode so I could use my other track for a chorus loop). Is it possible to do the same thing with the RC600? I.E. using one input source (guitar), add the G2B fx on the RC600 to create a loop on track 1. Then overdub that loop on track 1 with chords and a different RC600 fx (say chorus). Then overdub the track one loop with a lead guitar with diff RC600fx (say, distortion). Then add more overdubs? I've attempted this, but if having recorded a track 1 loop with G2B fx on, when you switch that fx off ready to record the next overdub layer, the RC600 plays the loop with no G2B fx, so it does not record the guitar with the fx applied, just the clean guitar. I'm looking to do this in SINGLE mode on one track to do a verse loop, then use the other tracks for chorus and break loops - that's the idea. Or, will I have to do it all in MULTI mode and use ONE track exclusively for a G2B part, then use track 2 to record chords with a chorus fx, then track 3 etc??? Thanks!

Hi, very helpful, thank you! A previous comment mentions this ... there are six looper tracks, and 6 mono (or 3 stereo inputs and outputs) which suggests the recorded tracks are mono , and stereoized when routed through the track FX to the outputs. Is the limitation of 6 mono outputs a bottleneck due to having 6 output jacks, or because the tracks are stereoized mono recordings. Wondering because if they were fully stereo, you'd think using as a USB interface you would be be able to have 12 mono or 6 stereo tracks in the DAW, but seems to still be 6 mono/3 stereo (plus the drum track). 12 mono signals from the looper to computer is a lot, perhaps while there isn't an output jack limit with the USB connection , practically and for routing sanity, perhaps the 6 mono output jacks limitation on the RC is mirrored in the software when using USB? So for example when you plug in a synth, would you need to use 2 inputs and outputs to preserve the stereo? Thanks!

Hi Ross, your tutorials on RC-600 are fantastic. I just got the unit and have been trying to learn as much as possible. I do a singer-songwriter thing with vocal and acoustic guitar. Ideally I'd like to have 3 tracks dedicated to the guitar with specific input FX and 3 tracks dedicated to my vocal with different FX. At this point I'm fuzzy on how to achieve that. I don't fully understand the difference between track FX and input FX. I was searching through your tutorials but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. If you've already explained this, can you point me to the video? Thanks!

Hi Ben, thanks for your kind words. Great question - I'll be releasing some new content soon, going through the parameter guide step-by-step, and will be talking about input FX and track FX in more detail there. If you haven't already subscribed, consider doing so and you'll be able to check those vids out when I upload them later this week. But basically, input FX are applied to your instrument before you record it to the tracks, so could be used for the live performance and/or then recorded to each track depending on your preference, but track FX are not applied to the sound ad they are played, only once they've been recorded to the track. So your input FX can be applied to each individual instrument seperately as they are being recorded to the track, but then the track FX apply to the entire mix within that particular track, affecting all instruments on the track. Does that make sense?

Hi Ross, Really appreciate your vids. Got a long question for you... I'm having trouble keeping my outputs isolated. They stick to their assigned destination before looping, but once I start looping, my signal is going to places unassigned. Stereo link is off on all inputs and outputs. I have an acoustic guitar running through an A/B Pedal. A is an electric amp. B is an acoustic amp. My goal is engage A & B while maintaining their independent outputs. I have A running through Input 1 L. This is going to Sub Out 1 L for Track 1 (all other outputs turned off).. so this is meant to only go to my electric amp I have B running through Input 2 L. This goes to Sub Out 2 L for Track 1 (all other outputs turned off).. so this is meant to only go to my acoustic amp. When I loop Track 1, the the outputs will mix. In other words, my electric amp pedals will be sounding through both amps instead of only the electric amp. Same with the acoustic amp pedals--signal goes to both places instead of only the acoustic. Any suggestions on how to keep these isolated?

If you turn Stereo Link ON for the Mic Input and Stereo Link ON for the output you intend to use, Main for example, this should allow you to achieve a L&R separation on the tracks. Plug your vocal mic into one Input and then run a dummy XLR into the 2nd Input (it doesn't need to be connected to anything), then the signal should split at the track and you should have one mic run to the L and the other dummy Input running to the R. Let me know if this works okay. Ross

Is there a way to send instruments out to different outputs WITHOUT recording to different tracks? Say I record stomp and guitar onto one track. I want the rc600 to send the guitar to main out and the stomp to a sub out. I've tried every routing option and it always combines the instruments. I've done this with simpler loopers (the rc1 for instance). There has to be a way the rc600 can do it!

It is possible to separate instruments once they've been recorded to a track, but it's certainly more of a workaround than anything else. For example, guitar into Inst 1L and keys into Inst 2L. Let's say you want both of these recorded onto Track 1, but you need to split them into 2 separate outputs. You will need to turn on Stereo Link for all inputs and outputs, then plug a dummy cable or quarter inch connector into Inst 1R and Inst 2R (they don't need to be physically connected to anything, just fooling the device into thinking they're in use). Now you should have guitar running out of the Main L and keys out of Main R, despite them being recorded onto the same track. Hope this helps.

Hey Ross, Great video! Question/advice: What I’d like to do is record a song into a DAW (using Reaper because it appears GarageBand won’t allow it) where each track on the looper, such as guitar or keys, have their own track in the DAW. That way I can clean up various parts or instruments as needed after they are recorded. Is that possible? If so, any advice on executing this? So far I’m able to get each track on the looper separated but when I record I can only do one track at a time. I can record a whole song but the instruments are not separated so I can’t edit anything individually, such as volume, reverb, etc. I hope this makes sense lol Thanks again!

Hello Ross, Great video. Thank you. I’m having a small issue that perhaps you can help me with I have turned off Stereo link to all inputs and outputs. I’ve also routed similar as you - with the intention of having six instruments coming into the looper each their own input, and with each going to a separate channel and separate output to separate amplifiers. Six independent channels, six inputs six outputs. When I have a loop playing on main left and that signal is exiting the left main out I hear it on the amplifier associated with that signal path. When I plug second cable into the second main in order to attach a second amp to run a separate signal from a separate channel, I loose the audio signal from the first main output - even though they are routed as separate channels. I hope you can provide me with your thoughts. If anybody else wants to chime in, please feel free. Thank you very much for reading.

Thanks for the message! Just to be clear; are you trying to send audio from a recorded loop to its own output? This only works if that recorded loop is associated with the instrument or instruments you wish to send it to. For example, if I use Track 1 for vocals, I can route my vocals to a specific output from there, but if I use Track 1 for vocals and guitar, I can't separate them to different outputs once they've been recorded to a track. Hope this makes sense? Ross

Ross, I've finally got this setup on My RC. So nice to be able to send separate outputs to my mixer so that I can have individual control at my finger tips. Question though...This works great for songs for which each track is a separate instrument, but how do you handle this with a song that has multiple parts (verse, chorus, bridge). For example, I've got drums (HPD20) on track one (set up as multi), but then I would typically put keys, bass and guitar on track 2 (verse-single), keys, bass and guitar on track 3 (chorus-single), and maybe keys, bass and guitar on track 4 (bridge-single). In this scenario, it doesn't seem possible to separate each instrument to separate outputs. Am I missing something? Any ideas?

Great question. As far as I understand, it isn't possible to separate instruments once they've been recorded to a track, but I am working on an idea that will hopefully solve that particular issue. I hear both the electric guitar and the bass through their separate amps while playing, which is fine. Now, I added an electric mandolin, I'm using instrument 2 input L and root it to sub 1 output L, which is connected to a separate mandolin amp. My problem is I'm not hearing the mandolin through its separate amp while playing it, only after my playing was recorded on the track assigned to the mandolin amp. Is this to be expected? I was hoping that I can hear all of my instruments live while playing them, through their respective amps.

i find the way BOSS claims 6 stereo tracks quite confusing. i don;t know much about mixer techniques but the way i interpreted it was that i could handle at the same time six stereo inputs which is obviously not the case. since we have at best 2 mics and 4 mono inputs what's the point of having 6 stereo tracks. to fill that in you would need 12 mono lines, right or you would be sharing some of the mono input between 2+ tracks. To be fair i'm sure i'm wrong somewhere ... i probably need to check more of your videos.

Now as soon as I take anything off Main L out it kills the FX they are not heard. I put Insert FX to my guitar track only, set them up to switch on and off great, then this killed it. If I sacrifice the output I hear the FX if I use it they don’t sound. so it’s really 5 mono out instead of 6 and I need the 6 so this is driving me nuts. This could depend on how you have stereo link set up for your outputs, but most of the time the FX are not working correctly, is because they need to be set to a specific input. If the input bus is set to 'all', you won't hear them if things are routed to separate outputs. For example, if you set FX A (delay) to the Inst 1 (guitar) input, that should work fine. Hope this helps!

@Rocky Peter yep, it certainly is possible. It would disable the other ways of controlling the knob unless you switch the setting back to what it was doing before. But you can make these changes per memory so they could effectively be doing different things in each of you memories. By default, the 2 middle knobs don't control anything from the display screen anyway so might be useful to just change those to control loop levels and see if that works for you. Best of luck!

I can’t see any videos of you performing to show how to use what you’ve set up???? I can’t really think of a practical use for this set up other than using it like a six track tape recorder? OR could you record one section of a song with six different instruments and then go to another memory to record say, the chorus? Then go to other memories to record other sections! You could then turn individual instruments on an off and go between the different sections yeh…..prog rock looping at last???? Is itfinally possible dude? This would be what I’ve been wanting to do for years 😮

I don't post videos of me playing on this channel. It's only for educational purposes at the moment, but I will be making a video of all of my equipment very soon. I'll also upload a performance video in the next few weeks. I don't use all of the 6 ins and outs myself, but I do run 4 outputs into separate channels on my desk. Thanks, Ross

You can do what you want without changing anything. You can do it in default settings.
