If you liked this, make sure to subscribe for more episodes! I'll likely be focusing future Anime Science vids to other sci-fi anime and topics for awhile. And hopefully tha means I'll make Anime Science stuff more than once a year. If you have any ideas or topics you'd want to see videos of, let me know. Thank you so much for watching!!

finally. i spent so long arguing on reddit because i was trying to prove to them that there had to be an okabe left behind after the time leap machine, and that okabe has no idea whether hed be the okabe who goes back or the okabe left behind so every time leap was at most a 50/50 chance of working from your own perspective. finally someone gets what i mean! making a person B doesnt mean person A ceases to exist.

"that there had to be an okabe left behind after the time leap machine" There's not since there's only one active worldline at a time.
@shawn4116 Жыл бұрын
Canonically speaking like the other guy said, in Steins Gate only one worldline remains active at a time, while the others exist as unrealized possibilities. Sort of like a wave function collapse in quantum mechanics. You can think of a worldline shift through d-mail or a time leap as the universe returning to an unobserved state, thus entering into a wave function where all worldlines exist, and then being observed by the time traveller, causing the wave function to collapse, and a new single worldline being activiated.
@iaphlnt2 жыл бұрын
It's explained (at least in the VN) that there is only one active worldline at a time and that the others are basically hypothetical. When you timeleap the version of you that sends the memories back no longer exists. We see this happen in the Luka ending where she timeleaps and dissapears from the lab because of the worldline shift

Yeah that still doesn’t explain why the girl from the past which this is cannon said there all different word lines that coexist simultaneously so his consciousness that stayed behind from the future wouldn’t be erased it would simply turn into another word line where that current consciousness didn’t go back in time but it would share its beta or alpha timeline and this theory makes sense in real life circles around time travel it’s kinda like the many worlds theory many scientists believe in to say that the timeline would be erased is dumb and create a plot hole that the show already explained and ov is not cannon and doesn’t need to be watched so don’t use it to discount anything that happens in og release of the episodes because it causes confusion
@iaphlnt10 ай бұрын
@@chaseyoung9628 Those timelines still "exist", as in they are still hypothetically possible, they just aren't reality. If Okabe were to return to a timeline he had left there would have to be continuity in that timeline so all of those hypothetical events would become real again.

I didn't even watch Steins:Gates but now I think I really have to do it! Especially bc I write a story that includes time-travelling so I really need to know how great stories handled these topics respectfully and so close to reality ❤ when you said they actually hacked that machine, created a black hole and compressed these memories with it... damn, I need to watch this! 🤩

Interesting video! I never thought of the possibility of the data being compressed by the black hole while still being electromagnetic waves... I'm not sure it might be possible to be honest. My theory was to use a concept suggested to solve the information paradox a black hole creates. The paradox occures because due to quantum mechanics no information can be destroyed, but a black hole has only a few properties: mass, charge and spin. So just by observing the black hole you cannot tell anymore, if it sucked up a chair, a table, a planet or even a whole star, which leads to the loss of this information. One possible solution of this paradox is the following: The information isn't lost, it is somehow encoded on its event horizon and can theoretically be regained by its Hawking radiation, which emits the data back to the universe. The storage capacity of such a black hole would be MASSIVE. It can be described by the Bekenstein bound, which tells how many bits of information can be in a sphere with a given radius and energy (or mass). So given the human brain weighs approximately 1.5 kg and the 3.24 TB of data given in the series, the radius of such a sphere would be at least 6.7057e-31 meters. A Schwarzschild black hole of that mass weighs approximately 0.0004515 kg. The Hawking evaporation time of such a black hole would be 7.74e-27 seconds. Given you need some time to decode the information back from the Hawking radiation, it might be conceivable to do that in 23 milliseconds with some ultra fast futuristic algorithm. So instead sending the data as electromagnatic waves close by a black hole, you can maybe send the entire black hole in the past and decode its Hawking radiation. Assuming the theory is true and the information is indeed encoded on the event horizon :)

This is a really cool idea but the major problem I see with it is that the time leap machine can send memories to before its creation. I guess you might say that Daru set up the decoding before the rest of the machine was finished but that's pure speculation

Try it in a virtual world… when you think about sword art it’s somewhat accurate how it scans your brain to read your memories and record them. So when you’re in the game and it’s super fast computer is reading/rewriting your brain cause it shuts down whatever science behind that is in itself either conscience or perception. But it practically makes a second you to live in that world and the author was able to code out a button to pretty much sleep? 🤔/ log out. Or to pretty much shut that consciousness down 😬 mayn. It’s 3:30 am I got an exam for chemistry in 7 hours and here we are. But it’s such an amazing thing really

if using black hole for time space travel, it should be possible to send/copy paste memories to past if the method/energy form to travel was higher dimension/level than what black hole would destroy/distort, for example if "life is a game" (electromagnetic?) then does electromagnetic time space travel work more easy with less likely data destruction/distortion? data implies electricity/electromagnetic at least in gaming/programming code words

One thing to note regarding your comment at 24:25 is that in the VNs while Okabe is in his nightmarish death-filled groundhog day hell is that Mayuri will have a heart attack even if he prevents all the other ways that she dies, possibly related to some underlying condition - I'll note that in the (incredibly fucked up) Gamma attractor field, Mayuri is actively dying from cancer in 2010, though that's not necessarily relevant to the main game or the Alpha field as a whole.

thoughts on miuri's death being a convergence point: if reality is determined by the beholder and other cats, maybe true time is realer depending on how many ppl behold, everyone is effected by ww3 and the time machine, perhaps 'the organization' conspired to kill miuri before the arklight slap, thus 0 begins but never ends. tried to keep it short, prob dosent make sence, with out mi, the future gadget would not take part in the war.

I think the concept of "permanent death" makes sense when this death is a result of how the victim usually acts in their life. If the victim is constantly careless, makes dangerous decisions etc., I think there's much higher probability that such person will die in a dramatic event sooner or later. I don't think it's dramatic just for the sake of being dramatic, if this is literally a result of the dying person's choices. It's based on the theory of probability. The way to make it not work and to make the probability of someone's tragic death in near future not too high is to convince the victim to change their ways of acting, I think. But this may be a problem if the victim still doesn't want to change their ways, lol. I don't know tho how exactly it was like in the girl's case (in the anime). If the death always looks almost the same, caused by similar things and situations (a car crash), then yeah, I understand that it may seem a bit too exaggerated. Imo if she would keep dying but in different events, caused by her much bigger than in an average person carelessness, bravery, dangerous "friends" etc then it would be more believable.
