I'm happy to see your channel growing. I feel your tips are always really valuable, and more importantly relatable, for beginner climbers. - Dave

OMG thank you so much for these beginner tips! I thought the same thing about the callouses. I've been waiting for it to harden so my hands don't hurt anymore and I haven't been sanding them down. I am going to sand them down now!

as someone who as been a (very irregular) climber for like 7 years now it's ridiculous how many of these tips I needed to hear. Having had no proper lessons and going once a week for a few months at best or twice a year at worst I've not really had any proper guidance on these things. Checking out your footwork video next, because trusting my feet is definitely something I've been struggling with as I've progressed to the mid grades. Thanks for the video!

I love that I came across your channel! Im just starting out and it's been nice to see someone who isn't an expert climber teaching this stuff. Feels more relatable! Amazing.

#7 is my favorite too! I hadn't realized how critical it is when you activate your muscles beforehand. The stretches and mobility do what you said, they let your body know to use those muscles, but I've also recently learned that it can lengthen the fibers to allow better blood flow. Ultimately, that's the cause of your muscles getting sore and fatigued is just a constriction of blood flow during the workout. 2 birds with 1 stone!

Also, I did the same thing as you when I started-- research literally everything, and focus way way too much on technique instead of just getting mileage jn. Lol, we'd be good friends 🤓

The footwork bit is super helpful. I just started and found V2 to be comfortable. I tried climbing a V5 for fun last night and actually got way farther than I thought because of working on my feet more then my hands.

Beginner climber here! I used to be a dancer and do pointe, so I’m used to my feet feeling icky while I’m doing physical activity, which I’m super grateful for! The good things about climbing is there’s no crazy ribbons or toe pads, so your shoes are easy to take off! And there’s no shame in that as you break them in. Take your time! Your feet will get used to them and will break in your shoes overtime!

Thank you, really useful advice, just started climbing and I’m having a blast! Do you have videos with more advice on warming up your muscles? I found the activating you hips part really smart and tried it today, it really helped me, also noticed that trying to stay close to the wall made it easier for me to push myself up with my legs, rather than trying to pull up which put a lot of strain on my upper body muscles and arms.

I think with the shoes thing, it really depends on what you've done before. I skipped neutral shoes because I was a dancer for 12 years and have incredibly flexible feet, so I don't find the downturn to be uncomfortable whatsoever.

I think the progress bar for each section is counterproductive, it makes what would otherwise be acceptable seem drawn out
@Rishnai2 жыл бұрын
@@lutze5086 Fair, however the onscreen topical progress bar method makes the video wonderfully scrubbable on mobile-unlike the chapters method which is fiddly to scrub within a chapter, or the linked timestamps method where finding relative position within a chapter to rewatch a specific point is harder to remember due to no visual queue
@lutze50862 жыл бұрын
@@Rishnai oh yeah I guess that's partially why I think it's not good for the creator, becomes easier for the viewer to skip through the video which is no doubt considered a negative by the algorithm
@Rishnai2 жыл бұрын
@@lutze5086 That makes no sense. Why would the algorithm dislike people rewatching creator’s videos, especially when they skip around and therefore get served more ads than if they watch end to end each time? It’s worse for the creator not to rewatch critical segments at the gym during rest periods due to some misguided belief that all videos must be consumed like novels. Not all content is a feature film, there is no obligation to watch every instance end to end on informational videos like a feature film-no more than textbooks read end to end. This creator happens to make very informative gripping non-fictional content.

My local climbing gyms have pretty much all banned chalk for covid reasons, and the rules say you have to use liquid chalk with at least 75% alcohol content before every attempt. It's interesting how I've not seen that in any other climbing video!
