I am so glad there is a comment section here. Many of the Seneca Video's have the comments turned off. I feel this is a mistake as it does not give the viewing audience a voice. Thank you for the video as I feel Seneca language is important to learn and preserve.

Aloha! Seneca on Hawaiian land. Grew up here. This is my home and the culture(s) that I know. I was separated from my father for most of my youth and first went to the rez at age 19. I love how Polynesian and Native cultures share so much of the same ways. But Seneca language is definitely more complex than Hawaiian/Samoan/Maori languages. Regardless, that they are now being preserved and perpetuated is awesome.

I just want to say thank you for making this. I was wondering if you could answer a couple questions I have? If I ask Sge:no na:h and you reply just e:h or há degaye:i, does it make sense to say Nya:weh Sge:no back? Or is that redundant? Also, can you add i:s dih at the end of any of the responses?

Can you tell me the proper/original way to pronounce Genesee in the Seneca language? I am Oneida but my husband’s family is Dominican and I want to show them how it sounds.

some people simply reply nya:wëh sgë:nö' back. when I have said it to elders, they typically have responded with I:s koh or do:gës. idk what it really is tho because I don't interact on a daily basis with other speakers or learners in that capacity. seems like the I:s dih is your way of saying it back. "and you?"
