Just a thought on the temperature. Warmer temperature needs good circulation. If you heat from one side heating an area in a larger tank shows the swings in temperature that's most noticeable at warmer temp. Regardless of monitoring used that's a fairly naturally understood. As for the pc support yes it's great they give you the choice rather than forcing you to buy their pc WiFi server.

I'm going to pull the trigger on the micro pc and the seneye. I'm a bit apprehensive about getting teamviewer setup, but hopefully it'll be obvious what I need to do once it is downloaded and installed. Thanks for putting this video out there. Just discovered you today as part of this project and am going to watch the rest of your content this evening. If I get stuck, would you mind if I messaged you?

John, thanks so much for the comment! Setting up TeamViewer is really easy. Just install it on the PC or phone, then install it on the micro PC. The Seneye was easy to setup as well. Of course you can reach out to me. I'd be happy to help! Thanks for watching!

I have a question about the Seneye as a par meter. Will I need those purchase those chips that go inside just to use the par meter? I really don't need the other functions. I currently have a Hydros system but I do want a par meter and this seems like the most economical solution for a tool that will only be used a few times.

I agree. Adding WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity in 2020 really shouldn't be a significant price increase or tech issue. As you stated, much cheaper items have them. It seems like a money grab (like some of the light manufacturers and their add-ons for controllers), which never sits well with me. Reefing equipment is already overpriced.

I am a little confused with the slides. It seems like these are a required add-on for the whole thing to work. Can you elaborate on whether or not they are re-usable, cost to replace and if there are any work arounds to not have to commit to a long term relationship with the slide and Seneye?
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
The slides are needed to get ammonia and pH readings. You will need to replace the slide every 30 days. You don't need a slide for temperature and PAR readings. I only use a slide when I'm cycling a new tank. My Seneye is now just used occasionally for PAR readings. Thanks for watching!

Older Seneye's (+2-3 year old) show similar par values as Apogee. The more recent Seneye's however show value's twice as high. Seneye needs to fix this in their firmare.

why dodnt you use the mini pc to look at the par readings in stead of the phone? Is it in another part of the house to? I am just not sure I understand this thing. I am not computer savy at all and apparently my hubby isnt either! I didint realze when I bought it I needed anything else. I am still not sure if I do being my computer is right next to the tank. I would rather use the big moniter to get my par readings than a small phone anyway. Problem is we cant get anything to work. Its not taking any readings at all. We didn't soak the slide but just put it straight in computer a few days ago figuring its going to get wet anyway and that after 24 hours I would get reading but light is on and not recognizing its there! So I really dont need this just for par readings if my computer is next to tank right? Do you know if I would get texts or notifications without it or theirs they sell? That would more than likely be the only reason I could see to buy it and also Doesnt it notify you if you lose power? No one ever mentions that but brs said it does. That would defietly be important to me and if I start dosing I would want ph alerts incase of an overdose. Right now still pretty much a newbie and dont dose anything. Thanks for any info you could help me with! Great video! New subscriber here!
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the subscribe! The reason I use my phone is because the mini PC isn't connected to a monitor, which is why I use TeamViewer. If you're connecting your Seneye to a desktop or laptop, then you wouldn't need to use a mini PC, phone, TeamViewer, etc. So, if your PC is right next to your tank, and you can plug the Seneye directly into your PC, then you're good to go!

Right now my seneye says the Ph is 7.42 and my Hanna checker says it’s 8.09. Wish there was a way to calibrate stuff in the seneye and then maybe this thing would be worth the money.
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how they could do calibrating with a slide setup like that. For the money, the Seneye has served its purpose for me. After I cycle the new tank, it'll be used as a PAR meter and that may be it. We'll see!

Is there any other product that does the job similar to seneye without the monthly costs? Ive been looking but couldnt find anything close to it. Its wierd in the days of computing to still have to use test strips.
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not aware of any tests for ammonia that don’t use a chemical type test. Hence the need for new slides. However, using an Apex system, you basically get the same monitoring without ammonia. With an established tank there isn’t a need to monitor ammonia IMO. I currently run an Apex along with a Trident for testing.
@mangorambo1557
@mangorambo1557 Жыл бұрын
Both the pH and ammonium readings on my seneye have been inaccurate. The pH reads about 0.5 lower and the ammonia 200 percent higher than what a liquid test is showing. Even with a 10 kg bag of fresh zeolite in the filter system the seneye will read high ammonia. So either the water test kits are off and huge amounts of zeolite don't work or the seneye is way off. Which do you think it is?
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 Жыл бұрын
I guess the only way to know is to test a water sample that has a known ammonia level in it. You could also test for nitrites. If you have zero nitrites, you should have zero ammonia.

How do you hook up parmeter to that awesome thing you made with the zip ties and also keep it in your tank? Do you just cut the ties after you use it and put it back in tank? Probably a dumb questions. Cant see any other way!
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Yes, I just use zip ties and then cut them when I'm done. The Seneye just hangs in the refugium in the back of the tank. I don't have it connected to anything.

My seneye Ph reading has never been right. Mine always says it’s somewhere around 7.4 to 7.6 when it’s really reading 7.8-8.0 on my Hanna checker. Not pleased with that aspect of it. Plus, it keeps dropping as the chip gets older. Once your done pouring all the money you need to into this seneye setup, plus monthly chips, you should’ve just bought a neptune apex instead which doesn’t keep costing you money.
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
I've never had an issue with my pH readings being that far off. Honestly, I don't worry about pH most of the time (except in summer when it can drop). My slide expires in two days and I don't plan on putting a new one in until I move it to the new tank to monitor the cycle. You're probably right, could've purchased a probe that I don't have to renew every month by now! Thanks for watching!

Did you have to adjust the ammonia in the settings? Or leave it alone in the middle?
@tjsreef5223
@tjsreef5223 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! I haven't had to adjust for ammonia. With a mature tank, ammonia should be pretty much zero, so as long as it's close to that (along with a regular test kit), it should be fine. My Seneye currently says my ammonia is .001

Please do not buy this. Mine has NEVER worked correctly for long, the thing randomly refuses to even start up, "connecting to cloud.... This is taking a bit longer than expected..." error that will render the unit useless. Months on end it can not be used, then randomly POOF it works again. PAR is HIGHLY inaccurate. I have two Fluval Plant 3.0's on a 40B set at max the PAR ready between 30 to 200 depending on when I check it. NOT Where I check it, but WHEN. Some days it reads 30 PAR. Some days it reads 200. Lights set at max, nothing blocking it, sensor is completely flat, in the same place. I have been told by support that I need to source a new, bone stock, windows PC to test. Hmm... No. With ZERO changes to my PC some times the unit will work, some times it will not. No changes to my PC. I'm not buying a new PC/Laptop for testing their garbage software. I have completely given up on this thing and the company. Multiple people have tested the PAR functions of this unit and compared them to known good PAR meters and found the Seneye to be horribly inaccurate.
