Here we play as Xavi, returning from SB1. Xavi's had a few changes to his moveset. Particularly, he no longer ends all of his S-string attacks or his Basara with a curtsy. Just like in Devil Kings, all instances of it were removed. His Basara is also slightly different, in that it's a bit less powerful, but it now knocks enemies closer to Xavi. This allows all 3 shots of his gun to hit the enemy if the knockback successfully occurs.
Xavi's stats and S-string are still pretty reliable, though his specials were a bit harder to use because of slow start up time. Maybe that's still the same as in SB1 and it's just that the enemies are more aggressive here so he keeps getting interrupted. Oh well. His cannon shots and the Xavi dolls are pretty useful still, as the dolls can be spammed and explode as Xavi does other actions and the cannons help give him a long range option so you don't have to bother trying to close in on the enemy. Oh, and his forward dodge also doesn't force him to go prone now. It did that in SB1 and made it hard to dodge repeatedly under pressure.
Xavi's first stage is a new one, Okehazama. Here, we have to chase down Yoshimoto who is hidden by several archer officers disguised as him. Poorly. They all run around the map and the idea is to find the real one and defeat him. You can spot him if you pay attention to the way the officers are moving on the map and spot the one traveling the most distance. If you take too long, enemy reinforcements will show up. The bonus is for defeating the real Yoshimoto in time, but you'll lose out on EXP over all if you do that. If Yoshimoto still has doubles and his reinforcements have arrived, he can trigger a cutscene where he teleports away after taking damage. I only had this happen once however.
This is probably the WORST stage for Xavi because he's one of, if not the, slowest characters in the game. If Yoshimoto decides to run from him, Xavi is not catching up. And Yoshimoto's AI is infuriating in this stage because he WILL run away if you get too far from him while fighting. This means you'll have to cut him off as he runs around the map. And it takes forever. Ugh. Why didn't they give you a horse on this map?
2nd stage is Motonari's regular stage. Nothing new here.
3rd stage is against Yoshihiro, which we've done before. This was also a bit of a slog due to Xavi's slow speed.
4th stage is Kennyo Honganji's stage. Very appropriate that these two have a stage fighting each other.
5th and final stage is SEKIGAHARA!? Why!? Man, that's a friggin' step up from all the others. Oh well. Xavi's capable enough to handle this stage, especially with all the Basara drops around so he can use his Basara a ton. Still got kind of scary when trying to deal with Tadakatsu and Ieyasu under pressure.
We bid farewell to Xavi at this point. He no longer appears in main SB games as of the time this video has come out. I'd love to see his moveset updated, but oh well. Also, he and Itsuki got shafted with their endings. They aren't even animated.
