It just takes time for people to mature. You have live through a lot to know how to control your emotions. I think what Michelle Obama said recently on "The Cross-Generational Conversation" relates to this, it just takes time for you to understand a situation and how to deal with it. What we've witnessed today are people who prob was highly emotional when getting rejected in their 20s or 30s, but they are now more mature and better at dealing with criticism, rejection, different personalities, etc.

Despite my better judgment, I have watched every episode of this series there is as soon as it's come out. This is the best episode. This is what real maturity looks like.
