Brazilian here. You need to understand 2 things: The size of Ayrton Senna in Brazil at the time. The last races of the season when Senna was about the win the championship it was the same as a World cup soccer game in the knockout phases. EVERYONE was watching in Brazil. At 3am in the morning. And when he won there were fireworks everywhere just the same when Brazil won the would cup. It was MASSIVE. 2nd thing: we are not “hot headed” we just are angry when there is a bias towards Europeans drivers, when by watching the series you know it happened A LOT at the time. So the game was unfair and then when you complain you are “hot headed” yeah get it. And also the last thing you can judge the series as you want but you cannot judge the history of senna. Everyone that watched at the time KNOWS he was the best by fair. And I am not saying that because I am a Brazilian. I am saying because I watched. (I say the same thing about Michael Jordan for example). So that helps you guys with a little perspective I think

All you need to do is watch Michael Schumacher sobbing reaction when he was told he had beaten Sennas victory record. And Hamilton crying over receiving Senna's helmet... Only with those two drivers you have 14 world championships, and they worshiped Senna.

It’s annoying that the guy can’t say that Senna was specifically Brazilian. He just mentioned that he was South American. It’s funny. Senna was so proud of being Brazilian.

He doesn't know anything about Senna, he won races without brakes, without an engine, without a gearbox and with people cheating.

As it is not a documentary, all scenes and scenarios must be artificially reproduced. Thats is extremelly expensive! This is now the most expensive brazilian Netflix production: more than 90MM USD. That is a huge amount even for US production. For a BR they are using money that not even exists! Netflix published a 30min making off in YT, I suggest to give a check, its very interesting.

Man, you compared a lot Senna series with DTS. They are completelly different objects. DTS is a documentary and this Netflix Senna is a dramaturgy, based on real facts, but still a dramarturgy. Many charchters (like the reporter) are ficticious. Most of the dialogs actually never existed or… existed in different context like any Hollywood film always do. If you want to learn more about Senna’s acheivements, check the 2010 documentary “Senna” that won the Bafta.

The only fictional character in the Netflix series is the reporter, but she is fictional with a purpose, and that is to personify the press of that time that fiercely criticized Senna and his type of driving, many productions do this and it is a good way to put the written press and the relationship with the media in context, which various artists and famous people have. No other character is fictional, so her opinion is only her opinion, not that of others.

@ Nope. The chick that slept with him in Monaco never existed. The boy and his dad in the boteco never existed as well. The characters were kindda represented something somehow. T Fullerton existed, they explained their relationship, and even the case of pushing him to the pool existed. But thats it. I never heard of any other meeting of Ayrton and him after going to formula cars. He was representing the “pure racing”, the spirit of the sport. BTW, unless Fullerton found a pub opened around 6am, it is impossible for him to watch Ayrton becoming world champion in Suzuka in a pub. As I said, its a drama and showing him watching races in a pub is much “cooler” than him watching in his living room.

Ah-eer----ton That's how it's pronounced. Good review. Interestingly Brazilian media thought he was portrayed as too nice. He was more tenacious than they made him out to be in the show. I'm South American and thought the sex scenes were completely unnecessary not to mention they didn't even choose the important women in his life to use those scenes with. They made Senna's last girlfriend look like she was just a one night stand when his relationship with her was more serious than it ever was with Xuxa (the blonde TV presenter). Adriane and Senna had plans of starting a family and even shared a bank account. But that decision of making her look like a one night stand was a decision made by Senna's family, who was involved in the production of the show.

I realized that you can understand modern F1, but you don't understand anything about old F1. Toleman was the worst F1 team at the time. Senna was persecuted for being Brazilian. People in F1 in the 80s were prejudiced and harmed Senna a lot. Senna's first name is Ayrton.

The way British fans are portrayed in the second episode is utterly ridiculous. Bare chested George cross wearing Britain first football hooligans screaming at an F3 race. You'd be lucky to get a polite clap from a few people in anoracks and flat caps in those days. 🤣

I think there are still those British fans and in that era where hooligans were everywhere it's a good representation don't feel ashamed it's a part of British culture man 🇬🇧

Thanks for the review! I like your channel! While I enjoyed the series, I have a few nitpicks: Peter Warr was not prejudiced against non-British drivers. While at Lotus, he worked with Rindt, Andretti, Fittipaldi, etc., and he famously disliked British driver Nigel Mansell when he drove for Lotus. McLaren did not steal Honda engines from Lotus. In fact, Lotus used the same Honda engines as McLaren in 1988. It was Williams who lost the Honda contract, and raced with N/A Judd engines in '88. Martin Brundle did NOT cheat whilst driving in F3!! He did not have an illegal engine as depicted in the series; both drivers had the same Toyota/Nova engine. Prior to the final race, Senna's chassis was fitted with a new aero package, and Brundle car got new suspension parts. But there was no engine change.
@gustavocordeiro679611 күн бұрын
@@OboeCanAm About Peter Warr and non britishs. You are right. But the serie do not blame it on him. It does it to the sponsor, JPS. And that was accurate. When De Angelis left Lotus to Brabham for 86, Senna did a lobby for Gugelmin to replace him. JPS didnt accepted because they needed a british driver. At first this driver would be Derek Warwick. But Senna didnt approve and demanded other (not much as good) driver. They hired Johnny Dumfries then. When JPS left for 87 and Camel was the new sponsor, Lotus acquire Honda engine, but the second driver should be a Japanese: Satoru Nakagima.

The show still makes Senna too much of a good guy and it's very one sided. It's playing way too much into Senna being the victim and how the governing body of F1 was always against him, that was absolutely not the case and in many instance the FIA actually made expectations just for him, it also leaves out that he was very cold to his mechanics and staff in general at McLaren. It was not until Gerhard Berger came along at McLaren and played practical jokes on him that made Senna relax more and be a lot nicer.
@fabio7812 күн бұрын
I'm sorry, but as a 46-year-old who "was there," it was absolutely the case that FIA was against him under Balestre's leadership. The exceptions they made for him were purely born from the pressure they felt when Senna became the type of star who brought the viewership numbers and was heard by everyone, so having him quit or speak against them would cost them dearly. I agree he was not a clean-cut martyr as the series depicts, but he was the victim of FIA's filthy politics all the way to his death when they could not cancel the race in Imola on that terrible weekend. Also, they left out a lot of his altruism like saving Erik Comas in 93 or his social projects in Brazil. Those are just mentioned in passing, but they spoke of his character.
