I have never commented on a KZbin video before but felt I just had to after watching your MT-5 reviews. Actually I was looking at buying some Beyerdynamic DT1990 PRO's retailing at about £380 but your enthusiasm for the MT-5's has infected me and so I am going to order the Yamahas right now (even before I watch this 3rd video in your MT-5 series😁). I believe you are no longer creating videos in English- what a shame as you are an excellent reviewer👍🏼. Thank you for such great videos.

I already posses the M50x which are closed back and easy to drive, so I was thinking of going into the open-back world with the HD600's, since they are regarded as the best in their class. I think the V shaped sound of the M50x for gaming coupled with the flatness of the HD600 for music listening would be the best option. Is there a huge difference between the MT5 and the M50x soundwise?

Awesome review, thank you for your passionate evaluation and comparison! It's funny because I tried buying the MT5s based on your recommendation but they were not available where I live, and finally ended up ordering the MT8s at a discount from a local music supplier... Which is great because I was personally more inclined to the comfort and looks of the MT8 anyway :) They should arrive tomorrow!!

I own both the MT5's and the MT8's and I'm sorry but there is really no comparison here. The MT8's are far superior to the MT5's in almost every way. OK the highs are a little harsh and piercing at first due to being so close to the ear but if you compare this to a set of high end speakers the highs are also piercing, just further away. This harshness softens slightly over time and the transparency and bass definition is a league above. Value for money, the MT5's are great for a low budget but the 8's is where it's really at! For both studio work and dj'ing the 8's simply out perform everything else in their class in my opinion.

When I heard you say the MT-5s were your new reference cans (replacing the HD 600), I thought it was an exaggeration. I ordered some to try out since having a closed pair to use in noisy environments would be nice. I got them and you were not exaggerating at all, the fidelity on the MT-5 is outstanding. Thank you. Edit: when paired with a very nice amp the hd600 do sound a bit cleaner (not everyone will hear this), but for on the go environments the MT-5 is as close to perfection as you can get. imho.

So, today I got it, and Im testing it , for now I can tell, that MT5 will be good for mixing, with little bit of EQ also for music, but loosing that warm full sound from HD 600, but better highs, I can hear better some sounds, that I havent heard on HD 600. Very similar to HD 600 but without musicality so, this headphones are for studio mixing/mastering and extra for music listening :)

Second day of testing: My ears are bit sweat after 2-3 hours of listening, I dont have this with HD 600 even after 12h. Senh. are more comfortable ;) With HD 600 I almost dont feel nothing after listening, but when I took off yamahas then its a bit of relief ;)

MT5's came today, the bass is there, the trebles are smooth and lovely, but the mids are outstanding, not recessed, using for mixing they are incredibly accurate, balanced and solid. I LOVE them, so thanks for this review - Sie hast echt. Hey, I'm judging them against some very nice cans but they all have that treble fizz and shimmer, spiked frequencies to seduce the ears I guess, but it's artificial, the MT5's are REAL!

Hi Sam, I was wondering if you tried the above and your thoughts on it? As I'm a little stuck with getting the MT5's, they sound like they are what I'm looking for but Ive heard from some that the highs are a little sharp and most people say that the HD600's are miles above the rest, (the go-to) but the price tag of the MT5's is so inviting

sam170708 How has your MT5 vs HD600 adventure ended?
@johnjameson41437 жыл бұрын
The Yamaha headphone and the HD600 are two different animals. The Yamaha is a sealed headphone for studio applications, the HD600 is designed to be connected to hi fi stereo equipment. The Yamaha can be use for low powered devices, the Sennheiser is more for big head units. Comparing them head-to-head and saying which one is better is stupid. It depends on the equipment you have and your purpose for using it. And if you have good high powered equipment, the Sennheiser will kick the shit out of the Yamaha, but it won't if all you're doing is plugging it into a friggin computer
@johnjameson41437 жыл бұрын
The hd 600 and 650 were designed to scale higher and higher with better and better equipment. Studio headphones like the Yamaha and the M50 and the Sony 7506 cannot do that, The drivers are not as high-end as the ones that are used in the 600 series
@johnjameson41437 жыл бұрын
And im sorry to say that the sennheiser hd 579 is in the same boat as the studio headphones, it cannot handle the higher end stuff like the 600 series can for the same reasons, the Yamaha and the Sony and the hd579 Will suffer from terrible distortion at higher volumes on higher end equipment That is why Sennheiser created the 600 and 700 and the 800, to pair better with the higher-end equipment- higher model number headphones for higher end equipment You already have two great headphones, the 600 and the 650. Now you need to start treating them right, feed them right, give them a good solid headphone amplifier like the $349 Schiit Valhalla 2, or even better, buy one of Sennheiser's head amps they they created to be paired with these headphones To go another level up, replace your cables with Balanced cables There is the proof that you requested.

MT5s are except excellent everyday studio phones. Very comfortable and neutral sounding. I also use the MT7s which are modeled on the NS10 monitors so very revealing. Also consider the Sennheiser HD 400 pro headphones. Cheaper than the 600s but excellent neutral open backs in my opinion. The HD 400 pros have a very accurate soundstage so great for mixing and mastering.

@DaftBunny7 жыл бұрын
I really like the 1A's for use on a mobile phone or on the run. They are mega comfortable, have a lot of bass (bit boomy for some) and the mids are still nicely present. There is some treble roll-off though. They are generally warm and relaxed. The H6's resolve more detail, are tighter, are more neutral but a bit harsh to my ears. I am quite sensitive to the 5-7k range. I love the 1A's for their musicality. Just don't expect them to be neutral :D
@PhilHarrisTV7 жыл бұрын
I really can't stand the sony house sound, I'd rather hear the detail in my music rather than flabby bass
@DaftBunny7 жыл бұрын
Well, the 1A's improved on that regard wrt the 1R's before them. The details aren't completely gone and the bass is not as bloated anymore. But they are no match for the H6 when it comes to detail. They strike a much better balance though. If you get a chance to hear them, give them a shot :)

I recently bought the MT-8, and I’m a bit disappointed. I like an even, transparent bass, which the MT-8 has, but the high end is too hot and overshadows the bass. So at casual first listen, they sound like the bass is missing, but if you pay attention, the bass is totally there.

After 2 years, is it still worth the MT5? I have seen good reviews of the AKG K550 MK II that are now at around 130, and also I feel somehow lured by the pioneer HRM-6 which look similar in the sound signaute from what I have read, slightly bumped lows and good mids and highs, with presence but not harsh. Any recommendations for around 150 euros of reference but not boring sound signature, easy to drive and comfortable closed over hear headphones in 2019? Thanks!

Funny, the problems you describe with the HD600 are exactly what is addressed in the mods for the HD650's. You can get the best of both worlds. Do you still have them? If so, look up the Dynamat mods and try for yourself. I think they could go to the top of your list ;) The bass will still not be super 'tight', but that's the only real criticism you might have. Modded HD650's are just something special. A lot of much more experienced listeners than me have proclaimed them to be the 'best under 1000 dollars'.
@DaftBunny7 жыл бұрын
Well, if you're interested, check out this thread: www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/hd650-kiss-mod.3440/ EDIT: the last post on the first page has a modded HD650 vs HD600 frequency response graph comparison. The mods mainly add details and tighten up the bass. As a consequence of the tightening of the bass the mids shine through a little better as well. But maybe not as much as you would like. It's all personal of course :) And it's maybe a bit much to buy the HD650's again to try it. But I think you'd like the modded 650's :)

As someone listening mosly to metal I can't agree tagt flat is great, for so many tracks it feels way too thin. I definitely prefer slightly warm but definitely bright for sure. I also heard the Sony doesn't actually sound good. It became the standard for monitoring mostly for the comfort
@mylesm42252 жыл бұрын
Yes. Actually i also prefer warm. I dont know i just feel comfortable on that. I can listen hours and my ears dont feel hurt on warm sound. I agree on sony part too. I have cheap mdr xb55ap. Its on warmer side, feels comfortable but every song fells suppressed. Had some sony speakers too. Still have a basic 5.1 sony soundbar, it satisfies my need but definitely doesnt sound great. I have to buy sony cause there is no yamaha service center in my area and these yamaha brands are not famous in india. All i want is a headphone which is good and loud at producing guitar shredding noises.

As a new HD600 owner (i bought them a couple of days ago) i was very intruiged by your story in this review. :-) I simply had to try the mt5's before the return term of 14 days for the DH600's was over, so i grabbed the mt5's this morning at a local store overhere. To make the story short: i will not return the HD600's. :-) In my ears, the mt5's lack richness in sound and clarity especially in the mids. Also the bass is not as tight as the HD600. Also not a fan of the highs (cymbals) of the mt5. They can be razorblade sharp sometimes.

With a good amp and balanced cable 600 is much more even and better in every way, that "more" bass on 650 makes mids recessed.
