I am currently searching for a ~$200 headphone, do you have a recommendation? To give you some context, I've mainly used earphones because of the discomfort (heat, weight, clamp) I get with headphones. I previously owned a bose qc35, which most would say is very comfortable, but I still can't stand wearing it for long. I recently had a very bad ear inflammation from prolong earbuds (gaming, music, video calls), so now I am reconsidering a pair of overears. I would greatly appreciate your recommendation.

Not knowing the sound signature you want, I can only recommend generally: SHP9600, X2HR, DT880 (250 ohm), DT770. These have fairly large earpads for average people.

@@NoThemeReviews Yeah I haven't tried enough headphones to pinpoint a desirable sound signature. Though I do very much appreciate the recommendations. I think the DT 880 would be ideal for me; sound isn't too "fun" if thats even a way to compare it with DT770 and DT990, faux leather headband and semi open back for comfort, and I should be able to drive it with the EVO 4 audio interface without spending more on an amp. Thanks!

I do agree it would nice if they include a pouch .I recently bought hd6xx from drop fir $214 (£179) they also sound great. The 560 s came with a 10ft lead fir me ideal as my hifi to sofa requires that length. A point of fact that hd6xx comes only 6ft cable. The earlier hd5xx came with 10ft and 6 ft cable so you had a choice to use . Regards mark

I love my 560s. It's great to have a "boring" pair of headphones I can reach for when I want to know what something is "supposed" to sound like. And I loved the pc38x, but my 560s made it redundant for gaming; similar imaging capabilities with far greater clarity. They're not as "fun" as other headphones, but that's not what they're about. And they're so light that they're practically invisible on my head. The 58x is an amazing headphone, but they're built for different use cases.

Which headphones do you prefer gaming? Especially for FPS? I have PC38x currently but I have heard the 560s do a much better job for sound positioning. And the 58x are currently on sale so I'm not sure which of the two is "better" or "worth" the upgrade from the PC38x. Thank you in advance.
@blank-jo1xp
@blank-jo1xp 3 жыл бұрын
@@maxjeng5536 I wouldn't say the 560s does a better job for *positioning* per se, I would say it does a better job at giving you *information*. If there's a lot of noise going on you can separate sounds from weapons/enemies/footsteps/the environment etc. a lot faster. There's less brain lag when it comes to decoding what's happening around you contextually. Positionally speaking, the pc38x is very similar to the 560s. I can't say they are worth the upgrade, in fact, most gamers would prefer the pc38x. A niche type of hyper competitive fps gamer would find the 560s worth the upgrade. It's also worth mentioning that the 560s also needs more power to really perform. You'd be looking at some sort of amplification investment as well. So you need to decide how crazy you are, I guess.

@@maxjeng5536 P.S. the 58x deal that's going on right now is great. They are basically a 6 series Sennheiser so the build quality is nicer than the PX38x/560s , and the drivers are slightly larger, so they sound "bigger". Out of the box the sound profile is a bit bloated for my taste, but they EQ very nicely. I still prefer the 560s for gaming, because it's super analytical and that's what I prioritize But for 99 percent of people, the 58x deal is the way to go

@@blank-jo1xp thank you for the long analytical reply. I currently use the SBx g6 on my PS5 for my PC38x and I did eq them since I can't run them in direct mode. I have been leaning towards the hd58x since the price is so cheap. But if they're gonna sound the same as my PC38x then there's almost no point for me to get them other than just buying them at a cheap price. I guess the 560s sounds like an "upgrade" even if it is a little. I just hope the SBx g6 does a good enough job to drive them.

I have both too, i did the constant swapping of both, pc38x sounds closer to you, less resolution and crowded. In terms of the comparison between both (theyre great headphones) and the 560s makes everything sounds where they should be depth wise, it sounds natural and immersive, But i feel like everything is also quieter, Maybe my dac amp sucks 😅 so far ive tried comparisons in monster hunter world and metro exodus. Have yet to do apex and for honor and some battlefield 4. Then going to finish it off with dead space to see which one makes me shit my pants first. I use a smsl dac/amp, ad 18 🤷‍♂️ i think they sound good and do a good enough job. My upgrade path has also been Shp9500 < fideliox2hr < pc38x < 560s. Its definitely a move forward from everything before but i feel like i want to upgrade again so soon this time :/ Im on day 5 of deciding whether to keep them or return then 🤔😣

The hd6xx, hd598 and the hifiman he400se should do very nicely, all are quite different sound wise (though both the 598 and the 6xx have the sennheiser house sound to em) the6xx is very mid forward, the he400se is a very bass focused can, and the 598 is an all rounder of sorts (not the best in bass, the mids aint the best, and the treble aint the best, but all the sections are still quite good with the 598) plus the he400se and especially the 6xx require an amp while the 598 is not that hard to drive so you can drive it off a phone or a laptop quite easily

So, for an orchestra recorded with multiple microphones. With instruments that most headphones mush together or completely ignore. Is there any passable option on a budget. That can still play fairly well with other genres. I have some Sony with bass for "fun" audio. And a couple of IEM. I'm looking for something open, and position effect. (I listen to music at night, a real multi speakers surround isn't and option) Originally I had considered the 6XX. They seemed like the cheapest I can find for soundstage and imaging. ($200USD or less often) I read the 600 were better but 100+ more. And not sure they are 50% better) And I'm not only been constraint by budget. But also by location. Shipping, taxes and what not make some stores a nightmare. And big stores like Walmart or Amazon, will show the items. And as soon as I change to my zipcode it's "out of stock" or they don't ship to my location. Heard the K702 would work, but not available for me. I kept coming across the 560S and was led to believe they'd be good for details and imaging. And for 150 seemed like a great deal. And comfortable, the cup, I need them on the bigger size.

@proffessasvids

Absolutely. It has a much wider and much more even soundstage than any of the 600series chassis'd headphones. Only issue with the 560s I find is the 4.5k peak. That can be eq'd out. However.. you can't eq a better soundstage into a 600series can. They are mechanically/physically restricted in this respect by the cup design and driver phase plug. The 560s is extremely flat, other than the 4.5k peak and some upper ripple. So flat that folk find them boring. They have no fun... just business. When I'm playing a fps... I want business. The 560s give me an excellent 3d rendition of where other players are around me. That's all I care about. If I'm playing an atmospheric immersive cinematic game or watching a film.. I reach for a more fun set of cans. I believe the 560s has the best stage out of every can I've heard around the asking price of £149. I have eq'd in midbass bloom and pulled out some of the treble on the 560s and they do perform as a 'fun' can very well. They have a fair amount of headroom to allow for this boosting when listening at comfortable-louder levels. Hope this helps xx

Better in what sense? The 58x has better build. The 560 might be more comfortable, depending on your head shape and ear size. The accessories are similar. The biggest differentiation is sound signature-and I don’t tell people what sounds “better” because that’s not up to me to decide for someone else. I hope you watched the entire video, not just the conclusion. The sound tests should give you an idea of how both headphones sound, and hopefully help you make a decision. The bottom line is that anybody can tell you something g sounds great or better than another product, but you’ll never know until you try it yourself. What I’m trying to do with this channel is provide as much detail as I can so that you have more factual and less personal preference info to make a decision.

@@abutia Hmm. Well, the HD200 Pro is intended for music production; I have the 380 Pro and they're fairly bass-anemic. I've never heard the 465. I know it can be really hard to understand what you want if you haven't heard a lot of different headphones. But we can probably come up with some options for you to consider. It sounds like you may want a headphone that presents a fuller, more emphasized mid-range. You might enjoy a balanced sound signature--which is usually a safe place to start. $100 is a fairly limiting factor, but I'll try to recommend options around that price range. 1. Philips X2: this has a dark sound signature--meaning it has an emphasized bass, full mid-range, and a slight treble accentuation. Some people find the X2 a bit too harsh for them, but it really depends on your personal sound preference, and the music you're listening to. amzn.to/3pWmbrI 2. Philips Fidelio L2: this is a bit clearer in sound than the X2; the L2 has a sub-bass emphasis, forward mid-range, and a close-to-neutral treble. Vocals tend to be clear. amzn.to/3trH3cq 3. Monoprice HR5/HR5C: these have a different sound signature than the Philips. These have a bit less bass emphasis, more neutral mids, and close to neutral treble. They're fairly clear, at least in this price category. amzn.to/3tuRHiG 4. Brainwavz HM5 & Spadger: these are reportedly the same as the HR5--and it's probably true. It seems like Brainwavz, Spadger, and Monoprice are all using the same headphone design and selling it as their own. amzn.to/2O4Iq0s & amzn.to/36OoLIE 5. OneOdio Studio Headphones: this is a fairly neutral sounding headphone, particularly for the price. It's not true neutral. The sub-bass is a little rolled-off, the mids seem to be close-to-neutral, and the treble is slightly emphasized. Vocals and mid-centric instruments do not sound as full as on the Philips headphones. amzn.to/2YRPaBe 6. Grado SR80e: these have a bass roll-off, but clear and forward mids, and an emphasized treble. Some may think it is a bit too trebly, but again, that really depends on your preference and music. Grado's tend to have a fairly unique sound signature, particularly for vocals and mid-centric instruments. In fact, the 80e is a very mid-centric headphone, and if you listen to music that leans heavily in that region, the 80e might be worth consideration. amzn.to/36NIcS4 I'm sure there are other options, but these are the ones that I've personally used (the Spadger and Brainwavz are likely clones of the Monoprice, so I'm counting them). Hopefully you'll be able to find something from this list that fits your style and budget. Most of these should be available in your region, if not directly from an authorized reseller, then probably on eBay.

@@lostandfound6501 It comes down to personal preference, ear shape, associated equipment, music taste... etc. For instance I have the 58x and find them too reticent in the treble and overly "thick" sounding. Consequently I've ordered the 560. Nothing said here dissuades me as I listen to orchestral/classical music so am seeking a different balance than most reviewers, including this one. And I certainly wouldn't suggest those other reviewers you mention are being dishonest in any way; clearly they're not. One factor not mentioned here but brought up by another reviewer is burn-in. He claimed that 100 hrs of burn-in did wonders for the 560, and given my experience with other headphones that may indeed be the case. It certainly does affect the sound of some, though not all. I would have to agree with his review of the HD58X. I've had it for a while now, and I have not been happy with it. To me, it was just a forward bass, and not enough clarity. I ended up taking out the two sponges inside - under the grill, and that definitely improved the sound signature to more of my liking, but I'm still not happy with the headphones. I put them in the THX Onyx, and again, still not great. So in the end, I never got the HD58X to sound as great as everyone claims it is. Perhaps it's just my ears, or the fact I don't have a top notch stack for it to play off. I much prefer the more neutral sound of the HD560S, but I would have to again agree that it is not worth the asking price. I don't know much about reference headphones so I can't say how well it performed in that area, but as a gaming headset, I preferred the PC38X, as my ears found its mid range to be more prominent.

I have not heard the HD560s but the HD58x does not have the sound signature I expected. Everyone says the 58x is part of the 600 family but it does not have the same level of realism as the rest of the headphones. The HD 580, 600, and 650 are pleasing to the ear, the 58x has a metallic characteristic (too digital) to it. Provably because of the elevated treble and the different driver. The funny thing is that playing with the 650 I can EQ the bass and treble to sound just the same as the 58x but it still feels more life-like and not metallic at all. I also have other Sennheiser headphones from the HD500 family and none of them sound metallic. This makes it even weirder because the 58x driver is supposed to be based out of the HD500 family.

@NoThemeReviews
@NoThemeReviews 3 жыл бұрын
I’m curious why you think I should care what other reviewers say. I pay for my gear, so I’m more critical than the average reviewer who gets stuff for free. There’s always an incentive for reviewers to over-exaggerate positives and underemphasize negatives, especially if they rely on review units and affiliate links to make money. I have no idea who you watch or why you respect them. That’s for you to decide. But hopefully you’re not getting sidetracked with hype. This isn’t a hatchet job. Ask other reviewers why they constantly hype products without actual A/B tests with similarly priced alternatives or put the manufacturer claims to the test. As far as I know, those who praise this headphone do so based on their own personal sound preferences-which is subjective and has nothing to do with whether anybody else should feel the same way-and ignore or excuse the sub-par construction and bottom-barrel accessories. I have never said this headphone sounds bad or that it shouldn’t be purchased. I simply do not think there is any justification for its price, particularly since Sennheiser’s promises about the performance are largely false. Also, you may want to check out various forums where actual users have tried the 560s. There is no consensus about this headphone’s performance -and that should put the reviewer praise into suspicion. Check out the 560s’ Amazon page and look at all the Vine reviews that give praise after they got the headphones for free.

I hated 560S and love 58X. Midrange on 560S was too thin and bright and treble too harsh. Also, comfort was much worse because of the strange ergonomics and cheap build. 58X on the other hand, I use as a daily driver. Sometimes I even prefer it over some more expensive pairs. I've heard many headphones under 500€ and I think that 58X is the most neutral. HD600 was too shouty and bright in upper midrange, Sundara too cold, DT1990 too sharp, 660S slightly shouty and dark, etc. Although, it sounds slightly grainy and muddy, which is most noticeable on the higher volumes, so that's when I prefer 660S or Sundara. Generally, the biggest issue with 58X is that it doesn't sound very clean. That's where 560S and any other headphone I mentioned beats it. But if you just want to relax and enjoy at the normal volume it's excellent. Also, it's probably the most universal headphone ever. Where Sennheiser messed up and missed the boat on the 560s as with them being light, using 120 ohm easy to power drivers making them an ideal on the go possible choice was making the cable single ended instead of just sticking with the classic dual cable set up which makes it easy to install a balanced cable to take advantage of many portable amps higher power output using a balanced connection. I would have strongly considered purchasing the 560s for on the go use IF they were balanced cable compatible but I guess I will have to go with the 150 ohm 58x offering as balanced cables are an option on those. @@xxdalionxx Thats really good to know. Without being able to try out all these headphones it's hard to make a purchasing commitment. I really want the 58x but I'm already pretty happy with my PC 38X, 770s, and 400i. I guess I don't need the 58x.

To me, no theme is the BS guy to be quite frank. He's reviewing what the manufacturer is putting on it's website instead of reviewing just the headphone without such bias.

@@RafiGish I have to agree to that this focuses too much on what the retailer says. Altough I have to agree that it can be a bit annoying that retailers sometimes put really vague statement on thier website his focus on the retailers statements is a bit annoying and often distract from the actual review.

@RafiGish I talk about build, fit, sound, features, and at the very end talk about whether the manufacturer’s statements are true. So, all of that stuff before the conclusion isn’t enough discussion about the headphone? Either you skip right to the conclusion without listening to the entire video, or you have a very different expectation of how products should be reviewed. If you think I’m biased because I hold companies accountable, that’s perfectly fine with me. Aren’t there enough hype reviewers from you to pick from?

The comparison I was waiting for lol. I'm just not into the Sennheiser sound signature. People also need to stop saying reference sound like is the go to for audio. Sennheiser is overhyped IMO.

Yeah but hype is everywhere. You can’t go one page in a forum without someone emphatically pushing one product or another. It’s so strange to me how people react to audio gear. Most are rational, thoughtful people and would never react as they do with audio gear with other stuff. I mean, nobody in their right mind test drives just one car, looks at just one house or apartment, accepts the wrong food order, or gracefully let stores swindle them out of money. But for audio gear, fugettaboutit. Maybe critical thinking and skepticism is dying out.

@@NoThemeReviews I think when people are spending hard earned money especially on audio gear they should be more critical. I know I am. But to each their own. When the product I bought is falsely advertised I get pissed. Off topic but what's your opinion on Kanto speakers. Have you ever heard them? I have no experience with speakers.
@NoThemeReviews
@NoThemeReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Yup I have the Kanto YU6. I spent upwards of $800 on a Klipsch passive 2-channel speakers and a Yamaha integrated amp. I got a Klipsch wireless subwoofer to go with it. I wasn’t particularly happy with the Klipsch sound-which always appeared to be a bit brittle in the top end. I did a bunch of research on active speakers and came down to between the Kanto and AudioEngine. I went for the Kanto because of their robust connection options and cheaper price. I added the wireless Klipsch subwoofer to them. I’m very happy with this setup. I got rid of my Klipsch speakers and Yamaha amp. The YU6 has a clear midrange and neutral treble. It’s built really well-heavy aluminum and quite substantial in weight. I’d love to try a KEF system some day, but I’m rather pleased with the Kanto performance and can’t justify KEF’s prices. The only thing I’d change at this point is the subwoofer. I’d like a downward-firing woofer and am biding my time until I find one that’s affordable and well made. Anyway, I’m no speaker expert. I’ve owned maybe half a dozen different systems, and couldn’t tell you anything about how any other brand might compare.

I still believe HD600 are the best headphones Sennheiser has ever made .Not because they are the most detailed or the widest in stage but because they have less faults. It is kinda sad tho 560s turned out to be mediocre just like the new airpods . You expect from big companies to invest into a project and bring something good , a new technology something revolutionary but they end up being just cash grabbing.

I've tested the HD560s against HD600, HD660s, and HifiMan Sundara. The HD560s TRUMPS the HD600 & HD660s. The sundara is the only one that sounds like it has somewhat better drivers, but some highs are too sharp and fatiguing; and the overall frequency response is significantly inferior to the 560s. They sounded a bit higher quality (not much though), but poorly calibrated. Not as poorly as the HD600 & HD660s though.. One thing that MUST be mentioned is that you MUST seat the 560s on your head as far back as possible. Almost to the point of pressing on your ear's "Tragus". Failing to do so, will result in a very poor sound experience, such as presented by "No Theme Reviews"... which IMO, do not represent AT ALL the true and astounding sound & precision of the HD560s!

I have to agree with you there on some of your points. I hold my 560s in 'as high regard as my 1993 hf580 precision, 1997 hd600 and my early black silk hd650. They are a totally different animal but I respect what they do wholly. Folk seem to give them hate but I think that's unfair backlash to hype. Each of my cans is a tool for a specific job. My 560s are used for fps gaming and with eq for electronic music. My other cans are for enjoyment. Xx
