I LOVE THIS MIC! I've had mine since 1986! I now run it through a Drawmer MX60 Front End One I got from Sweetwater! If you can't afford a high end Neumann or Telefunken this mic will work wonders for you.

I know a lot of recording engineers/enthusiasts say you can never have too many Shure SM57s. I won't disagree - however . . . the Sennheiser MD421 appears all over recorded music. Most all drum tracking is recorded with the 421 on Toms. Google any image of Brian May's Vox amp miking, and you'll see a bank of 421s. While in Recording School, we went through a test of mics vs brass instruments. On Trombone, flugelhorn, French Horn -even in live sound - the Sennheiser MD421 won every time! I would encourage any would-be engineer/producer to put at least 2 pair of these iconic mics in your locker.

421 is the king of Toms, sounds amazing on snare and rules on GTRs. Good for death metal Vocals as well . Works on kick but I wouldn't use it as a metal kick drum. I own a few and have never regretted that purchase.

After engineering for 15+ years I should get me some 421s finally. That said. 7.45, literal mic drop. XD

They are a great Mike, except for the clip. I've seen more wrap in duct tape to hold them on to clip than I like to think about. They need to include spares in the box.

I have had (5) 421s for years. One has been hit so many times the “Sennheiser” logo on the front of the windscreen is loose. Wish I could forward a pic of the windscreen.
