Thanks but can you compare this to a cheaper pencil condenser in the same setting ?

so the first move away actualyl sounds really nice. The room tone can be heard but if the treatment in the room was a little better that thing would sound superb. Also, up close it sounds a bit low end heavy but it also sounds smooth

Yeah I'm feeling like a MKH50 1ft away from the voice actor (maybe 45 degrees above the actor with the mic pointed downwards) in a really well treated space will give you the perfect natural sound for character work

This and the Schoeps CMIT5u are the only other mics that sound as good or better than the MKH416 for out of frame shots imo, MKH50 better indoors It just makes me admire the fact that the 416 delivers such polished voiceover sound while close speaking, very little plosives too Shame the MKH50 has such bloat close up, otherwise it'd be a great "eat the mic" vibe. Definitely works great further away for natural sounding tones I wonder how the CMIT5u sounds close up like how you use the 416... Thanks for the video JollyLegend, great demo of the mic :)

The 416 is a masterpiece of human engineering.
