@@misterscratch7 Not quite, as I recall - Oda came up with the backstory, but originally did not intend to put it in the manga. His editor asked him why Senor Pink was a baby man, and when Oda told him, he pushed for it to be included. In a broader response to the original commenter, yes he very much does. He loves to give horrendous first impressions of a character, and then try to flip perspective. For some examples: - His first attempt, Chou Chou the dog, an obnoxious problem creature that kept biting Luffy and stole the key to his freedom. Then, we get the backstory. - Dr Kureha. Seemingly terrible medical practices (knocking a child out with a reindeer headbutt instead of anaesthetic) and monstrous price-gouging. Then, we get more about her and Chopper. - Dr Hiriluk. Some think he went too far here, and establishing someone who experiments on people and robs them at gunpoint was a bit much to be flipped. Then, we got his backstory with Chopper. - Robin was introduced 'killing' a pleasant side-character and taunting the crew, and remained an antagonist for most of that saga. Her true flip did not come for some time, however. - Wyper is a side-example, introduced as an antagonist and causing substantial problems for the crew for a fair bit of Skypeia, before being flipped in a very poignant way after the Noland-Calgara flashback. - Franky. Beat Usopp to a pulp and stole much-needed money. Then, we got his backstory, and the rest of Water 7 and Enies Lobby. - Boa Hancock, introduced kicking puppies, abusing her advisors and executing her own people. Then, very shortly afterwards, we got her backstory and the flip. - Bartolomeo, introduced being rude and obnoxious, before we realised he was best boy. - (WANO FLASHBACK SPOILERS) and finally Oden. Introduced interrupting a funeral to cook a meal on someone's pyre. The rest is history. I definitely think he improved over time, and there are likely a fair few I missed. For a fascinating reverse-example (in my opinion) we have Blackbeard, who had a very positive first impression, speaking supportively of Luffy and derisively of Bellamy after their first encounter.

Except we know Oda didn't plan to bother putting it in the story we have an editor to thank for telling him to slow the f down and actually tell his story instead of skipping everything that hes already spent time to plan out and draw sketches for before just to inevitably skip out of stupidity

Senior Pink has one of the most tragic backstory ever in One piece. You can't just not cry or feel sad asf watching his backstory. And Senior Pink is like ''Never judge a book by its cover'' category. Franky vs Senior Pink is a duel of chads.

It took me a moment to understand, especially since Russian's name was translated as much more normalized "Lucy-Ann" by one scanlation, but Senor's family was named after drinks: Gimlet (gin with lime cordial) and (black/white/green) Russian (vodka with coffee liqueur/coffee liqueur and cream/absinthe and cream).

Pinks backstory is one of the most amazing to me. It reminds me in many ways of Kuina's death because it's just...life, and sometimes that hurts. Oda knows how you're going to react to his characters, they're very purposefully designed. The best example is the back of Senior Pinks shirt which is showed off many times before his backstory is shown.

Yeah ... I can't think of another storyteller who can make a character as utterly ridiculous as Senor Pink and make so many fans do a complete 180 concerning him. By the end of this arc, you know exactly why all those women are fawning all over him. The man is SO fucking hard boiled, and the core of that is his absolute devotion to his wife.

Senior Pinks BS is one of those that proves how good he is at character creation. I mean in the grand scheme of things Senior Pink is not a main antag or protag and no one all that special. But still look at the BS and tell me its not quick at engaging sympathy or empathy.

I hated the Luffy Bellamy fight. Like Luffy was so out of character that the only reason for the fight was there delay Luffy vs Doffy and to have Law fight Doffy alone and have a fake death. Luffy doesn't care and he knocks people out if he have to. He fought Laboon, Dorry etc when he had to and he could have done the same to Bellamy.
