The triangular, concave, horned piece is the ashtray insert of a brass crustation table ashtray. I have two of them, made of solid brass in the shape of articulated crabs. Inheritated from my motber, who only owned them because her birth sign was Cancer ... she never smoked.

The worst thing about finding aluminium other than being “foiled again”, is finding more pieces of the same bit in the same hole. I dug a hole a foot deep once only to find a big aluminium foil pie holder. Thought I was onto a big nugget. Sounded beautiful on the surface and better as I dug down. “Foiled again”!

The amount of miles you've walked this week I'm not surprised you're boot has given up. My first thought with the copper item was it's a medieval Shrek badge , I was quite disappointed when you said scallop! So lovely that the boys have got hammered coins. I was wondering what would happen to the finds don't suppose it's the type of thing you can take to America as a trophy . Unlike years ago such as the Elgin marbles.
