I actually don't mind that not a lot happens in the first season. If I want an action show, I have plenty to choose from. Finding shows that focus on character exploration over shoving plot down our throats is actually difficult. I hope we get a second season. I am definitely curious.

Everyone keeps saying that this show is slow. Well I do kind of agree, I personally like that it is. I love it when a series gives us the characters' personality and experiences from the start. I want to remember the 8 sensates. I want to remember their names, not just as the 8 strangers who fight the bad guys together. The writers of this show intended it to be like this. They were going for a slow-arc story, I think I remember reading somewhere that they've already got the later seasons planned out.
@BingeWatchers9 жыл бұрын
Sebastian Abrea That's a really good point. This show is tied to its characters so closely, that people who disliked the characters, disliked the whole show. The show really does have to take the time exploring the characters for us to care about them, that did cost them a few people though, those who got bored along the way. I think it's pretty much this - you're either hooked on these characters and their stories, or not. I was, although I do think there were a few things they could have done differently.

@TheOfficialTab9 жыл бұрын
Capheus was great, he always has a smile on his face and thinks everything is beautiful in it's own way. Only when he is face with troubles that include violence on his part does he ever seem unhappy and usually this happens because he takes care of those around him, and sometimes those around him get hurt. He takes responsibility for himself and helps the people around him. That is why he is my favorite character in the series. I think that they should be able to make a second season so they can finally speed up the main plot they started to touch upon finally on the last three episodes.

Official Tab Great observation, Capheus on one hand has the most difficult life of the 8, but he is also the one most content. I agree about season 2, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting it next year.

Caphius is a contradiction in seoson 2.As much as he doesn't condone violence there's very little surprise in his face when he murders anyone. I don't see that evolution on him as a character as he kills more and more people given its against his principle nature. Hell, he was excited to open a trunk loaded with weapons in the last episode in seoson 2.These characters are all over the place, there's not much congruency to them.

Spoilers: The cluster isn't created when a sensate from another cluster dies. It's created when another sensates "births" them (or the permanent connection between them that allows for the "sharing" of experiences, emotions, skills, etc.). They don't really go into detail about the "birthing" but they do talk about it in the first scenes with Angel and Jonas, and also in the scenes with the sensate in Iceland. Angel killed herself so that Mr. Whispers couldn't use her to find them (Will, Sun, Lito, etc.). I think they might cover the subject better if the show gets more season's. I really enjoyed this show. In fact I knew I was going to enjoy it when I first read the premise. I agree with the points you made about the show not quite reaching it's full potential and how the overarching story was only really tackled in the last few episodes. I kinda wished they had more episodes. In the end it felt like they were running out of time and it seemed, at least to me, that they rushed some of the interactions between some of the sensates. For instance Lito, whose my fav character btw, was mostly rapped up in his own story the entire season. Sure he had to deal with some of the same issues as the other sensates, like suddenly and unknowingly finding themselves "visiting" one another and also the overlapping emotions. But he never consciously interacts with the other's until the last few episodes. Which I understand is mostly because his personal story and the overall story didn't necessitate the "visiting" until that moment but I think his time spent interacting with the others was short compared to say Will. Instead of the more gradual acceptance that Will and Riley had we get a sudden conversation between him and Nomi. With no questioning, just a immediate acceptance of the fact that they somehow knew each other. It was the same with him and Wolfgang. And also with Kala and Capheus. However touching, intriguing, and entertaining the scenes were, for me they came across slightly disingenuous. Hopefully they get another season and can rectify these issue. Though it could just be me.
@rrohmdr9 жыл бұрын
chilliyimani Hi! Just to make a diferent point: As far and as deep as any of the other 7 sensates are concerned, it is LITO the one with issues concerning lack of integrity and courage, living the double life in the closet and, therefore, experiencing this drama while the other sensates, during the 9 episodes are visiting each other, sharing their true feelings and dilemnas. When LITO is left by his lover and begins to really feel the solitude and grief really deep inside himself is the moment when he seems "to qualify" to really and truly feel, help and share a true emotional challenge with others. That's the reason, at least for me, why his process of self consciousness and interacting and visiting comes to pass a bit later than the others. But if the "sensate" dimension is about sharing and feeling and so on, I see his visiting to Nome as the perfect opportunity for one of the most beautiful, intense and generous encounters within the whole series! Is from the pain and from Nome's courage and self-respect that comes the first inspiration for him to overcome his weakness and coward egocentrical attitude. So, as far as true human characters are concerned I don't believe in timing, nor timing accounting or inner comparisons to fully comprehend the richness of human being development and challenges, as well as the plot becomes even more interesting and "natural" because of these and other differences. At the end, greatness and redemption among different people ( or characters) shouldn't be seen, at least in art, as an effort towards pure rationality nor accounting. I'm looking forward for a second non balanced, non- expected and non completely clear season. Best regards.

If you feel there are gaps in the story, don't be lazy: fill them up. In the West, nowadays, people are so spoiled by videos that they forget to use their imagination. We cannot assume that every single interaction happens on the camera. If some get-to-know feels to fast, well, then, they must have been reacting off camera. They were not in the show, because they were less relevant. Some of these interactions might have even been filmed but removed in the final cut.

I don't agree with the propaganda thing. Being gay is subjective and being a woman or black is a different issue. The gay sex was graphic where as the straight sex was implied. It's an interesting twist.

Ben A I'll grant you they had more graphic gay scenes but I certainty remember a few straight ones as well.
@benisturning309 жыл бұрын
InMaTeofDeath This was definitely biased because Lana Wachowski is LGBT. It was certainly noticeable how pro LGBT it is and yet the Asian, black and hetero characters were less sexualised than the gay ones.
@InMaTeofDeath9 жыл бұрын
Ben A Ehh biased and pro LGBT are two very different things. Bias implies that there is an objective way to go about it while pro LGBT is simply accepting them as people just like everyone else. And if we think about life and objectivity, there is no "right" way to display life as sometimes you will have less of something and sometimes you have more. You don't say a movie or show is biased to white people if there's very few black people in it, the same is true of this. As for the less sexualized characters we're meeting them at different stages of development, the gay characters were already with significant others while the straight ones were discovering them(if they had a love interest at all) so it makes total sense that we see more sex with the gay ones. Then not every character has to have a love interest from the start either, a lot of people out there are single. :P

I loved it. Including what you didn't like about it. To me, because ofnthe level of introspection (I don't mean the explicit afterschool special moments but the implicit, between the lines moments), the down-to-earth, yet beautiful, portrayal of all the worlds, and all the parallel thoughts I had, and keep having, it felt a lot more like reading a novel rather than watching a show. In that sense, I came to appreciate the slow pace. It made the characters very real, and the "post-movie" effect quite significant. A+ on the casting. 9/10 for me. The best series I've seen in a while.
@Car_Uma9 жыл бұрын
Carlos Umana Two things turn me off: First, the scientific explanation behind their connection. I hate it when writers who didn't pass eigth-grade biology start writing science fiction, particularly to explain something that definitely falls out of the realm of traditional science and falls in the realm of something more spiritual. The mention of how they are so genetically dissimilar to the rest of humanity was unnecessary, and because it is such a simplistic, illogical and biologically flawed explanation, it demystifies their connection, making it absurd, turning them into yet another breed of "mutants", whose special power is an organic intranet. The other thing is the hunt. I get it that it's the element that ties the show together, the suspense that makes us not be able to wait until tomorrow to play the next episode, and it gives them a common enemy and a threat over which to bond. But... why are they being hunted again? To turn them into zombies? To recruit them into an interconnected mafia and save up on skype credit? I hope this doesn't turn into another Matrix 2 or 3....
@badass4479 жыл бұрын

For me, this review is very accurate. I wish the producers would take your feedback and apply it to the next season. Honestly, the show would process tremendously using this feedback. Although, the producers/writers explain that the show intentionally built its story over one season, I do believe it posed a problem. If they would have connected the overall story sooner, I would have given the show a 10/10, but I still think it is 8/10 or better with its "few" issues. Thank you for your video, I hope the Sense8 writers learn from this feedback.

Yeah, I am sure we will, but we won't get a third if they don't mix in some of your feedback. Personally, I wish they sectioned the series like a network show. For network television, they could be cancelled at any episode. So, it is important to produce enough episodes that connect a story and can stand alone. On another note, you spot on hit the show not being gay propaganda. The point you made about an all straight-white-male cast is very important. I wish more of television could break these ethnic, sexual, and geographical barriers.

I really loved certain character's plots while other's just felt somewhat pointless. I loved Lito and thought his character was well portrayed in that although his main conflict was being in the closet, we could clearly see that there was more to him as a character than merely his sexuality. I also really liked the character of Sun but only when she was in other people's stories because her own felt somewhat slow and even slightly corny to me. Wolfgang was definitely one of my favorites and a favorite episode of mine was when he and Lito helped each other because they hadn't interacted much before. I thought Wolfgang and Kala were a good couple in that they weren't too much where as Riley and Will became eachothers story altogether. Overall I really enjoyed this show, but some things definitely could have been changed. Great video:))

The birthing scenes (some may think they were beautiful, I thought they were disgusting; deffo not something I want to see on screen. Especially since they were actually real births!) 4. Jahiedy Vinas Awesome comment! I love your observations. This show really comes down to the 8 main characters, if you love them, you love the show. People that didn't connect in any way with the 8 mostly thought that the show was boring. But that second get that *click* and you fall in love, the little things that the show does wrong really don't matter so much, because you're just so into these stories. For many people that moment was that amazing "What's Up" scene.
@magnoliasweetie9 жыл бұрын
Yes, that what's up scene is so awesome! Haha, I love that they were all singing in their own way & how Nomi escaped with Will's help and Amanita's swiftness; awesome. I especially enjoyed those little moments where the characters were able to experience things they never have before or wouldn't be because of where they are, like Sun and Capheus seeing the fireworks and Kala watching Van Damme. That workout scene LMAO, oh man! It's interesting because Capheus and Wolfgang don't really question why this is happening to them, they kind of just roll with it & don't worry excessively that they're going crazy. They all know each other without knowing each other, it's really awesome. If we take the show for what it is, it's truly a masterpiece. I can't come in with certain expectations, everything was new the first time around so I was taking it in as it came. Therefore, I took it as is and I love it. Things take time in real life and it had that pace so it worked. Would I have liked if Lito was able to take action by the time Hernando left? Yes! But some people don't get it until they accept their reality, a lot of us are hard headed and don't ever take action. We just struggle to see it play out when it's another character and we know what he should do. If only we had an outside look at our lives, maybe we'd be spared the inconveniences and time we waste being unhappy. Everything happened as it should've, you let them happen like Jonas said lol. Like Daredevil, love the show & I can't expect it to be the same pace as Arrow or Flash. Plus it's on Netflix so there is no need for big bangs and cliffhangers because we're gonna see the next episode right away. It allows for the script to include subtleties and develop a full story to be explored throughout the episodes with a reality of a real life pace and gritty feel. The benefit of having netflix series is that they don't have to quicken the story to keep your attention and they do justice to the characters while still leaving room for further development I look forward to in Season 2. I can't wait. I already am watching it again lol 😁

This is one of the best shows I've seen in a long time and one I will recommend to most of my friends. Yes, the show takes a while to get going and the first few episodes can be confusing, but if you stick with it, you're rewarded for your patience. You get some amazing character development, an interesting plot device, and just some good sci-fi. I'm an adult who can easily handle mature content so I had no issues with the sex, nudity, or birth scenes. I loved 7 of the 8 characters; I just couldn't really connect with Capheus's story. Nomi and Amanita's scenes were some of my favorite, as were the scenes with Wolfgang and Kala. Of course, the scenes with Sun being a bad-ass were worthy of multiple rewinds as were the scenes with Lito and Wolfgang (and holy hell the scene with the RPG in the trunk). The Christmas special was a real gift and I can't wait for season 2 to drop in May.

I like the interactions between Will and Riley, also the over-the-top Mexican movie titles and quotes. But the most impressive effect it has on me is how its theme moves me, I'm in a very bad place lately and after I cried as all the members of the cluster sang together, it gave me a lot of relief.

My favorite characters are Amanita, and Sun for different reasons. Amanita is the best ideal partner one could have, always supportive and loving. Sun's my definition of bravery, honor and loyalty I aspire to be someone like her. Always protecting her family and loved ones. Please Sense8 do NOT stop with the introspection. I think we need people to start putting each other in others' people shoes. Not everyone is a straight, male white person.

My favorite character was Sun for being selfless but ultimately for being a badass and helping almost every character! I enjoyed watching the characters conflicts and development; I actually enjoyed that part of the show rather than the whole Dr. Meltzer showdown which left me with many questions...would much have rather the show be on just the characters themselves and fully embracing their new abilities.

After seeing a lot of "eww I only watched a few episodes" and " got so bored, couldn't reach the second one" I'm glad to watch your review which, by the way, is pretty cool ! I liked - right, I mean, I LOVED - this show but you made me realize that, yeah effectively I was expecting something... more. You're right when you say that, somewhere, the action phase never really comes (okay, some in the last three episodes, but we've been waiting since the second one). Sense8 sure has a lot of potential to be exploited and it's quite sad that they don't go deeper in that. Maybe they were planing on showing off during the second season - I hope it will be one. Nevertheless, the colors and landscapes and everything that is filmed is just beautiful and I like to believe that it's sufficient for the show to be good. I think making up all the characters with different stories, genders, comportements, desires and fears need a huge imagination ; and the fact that these eight people end up helping each other, wanting the same thing even if they're so different ; it's awesome. I think it's a really really good thing that, as you say, for once, the "trans/gay" characters are not in the show just to be trans or gay ; they're just people like others, dealing with everyday problems and trying to fix them. To be gay is not an epic characteristic, but just something about them, like others are straight or have blue eyes or idk. Shows like Sense8 can help people realize what is equality and focus on more important things than these details. Finally, I'll say that a really hope there will be a season 2 (even 3 and 4, yeah let me dream) ; and choosing my favorite character seems wayyyy to difficult. Maybe it would be Wolfgang, or Sun. Congrats for your review ! PS : sorry, English isn't my first language...

Nice review!!! To me, this show is like using an entire season to tell the audience the main characters and the main story line. It's a little bit slow, but the concept and the story is truly amazing, and that's why I can keep watching this show. Speaking of the characters, Wolfgang and Kala(Kara?) are my favs b/c one represents the friendship and another represents the family, and that kind of emotion really touches me.....

My Sens8 favorite characters are Will (the Chicago cop), Nomi (the computer hacker) and Sun (the Korean accountant). I guess I liked their combination of intelligence and work ethic at making a positive impact on their groups - both their cluster and the people in their real lives.
@DeathsPit009 жыл бұрын
The Clusters are said later in the show to be created at the moment of birth when they are all born at the exact same time and they all quite literally take their first breath at the same time as one which connects them all for their entire lives( kind of throws the idea off for me just because there are near 8 billion people in the world and this probably actually happens all the time without psychic linkage occurring, but I like the basic idea so I'll let that one go) The first season, while slow, was simply amazing. It went the way it did for a reason. The reason I believe it went like this is because they all had problems in their lives that they desperately needed real help with and the characters could truly help each other, and we got to know them as people. The other reason is that by the end of the season they all had to be aware of each other, their abilities, and be comfortable with the way they're connected. They needed that time to figure out how it works, which is why we didn't get as much out of this season as first thought. If there is a season 2 it will be much better because they have that experience and know how to use their abilities. Youm ust remember that despite beong on Netflix it's still a tv show, whereas a movie would have had them instantly able to control this ability without any of that prior experience. To me it makes sense. PS My Favorites would have to be, Wolfgang, Will, and Lito. They make an amazing team. And without Lito Wolfgang and Will wouldn't have made it.

I finished the season 1 two days after its release and loved it! Fave character was Sun but now it's WOLFGANG!! Total badass in the action scenes with his cousin and Joaquin. The show depicted every aspect of life from all over the world, so if u wanted some happiness, desire, love, attraction, sadness, loss, ACTION! u will find it in the show as the story takes u to different parts of the world. And i just love the music/songs chosen, and how it got worked into the scenes. Best of all, this show is about friendship and kinship, a brotherhood that was clearly highlighted after Nomi's narrow escape, and then more defined at end of the season.

I loved Sense8 and binge watched all 12 episodes in two days! I agree with your review except the part where you were frustrated with the pacing of "getting to the point" of resolution. This first season is the set up exploring the lives of the eight sensates as they are discovering each other and themselves within the cluster and their new perspectives in the world. The show is about their journeys, not about the destination. My favorite character is Lito. He learns to overcome his fear of being outed as a gay movie star. He almost chooses fear over love, but overcomes his fear. Overcoming fears is one of the overarching themes for all of the characters and I love how each character comes to help each other just when their skills are most needed to deal with the situation at hand. I love how bits of wisdom are said to each other at points of decision. They are each others soul mates and their team work helps each other succeed and win in life. I really hope the show comes back for season 2 because then maybe we'll find the sensates helping the world in some way as they go on missions.

IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED SENSE8 DON'T READ ON Alright then, I'm my opinion this show was one of Netflix's best(original shows that is) due to it's very unique idea and the beautiful way it is portrayed. The show kept my attention rather well, and since it's a Netflix title we get entire seasons in one day. My favorite character would probably be Riley, if only because of her love of music, which really connects to me. For every one who's watched this show, do you remember the scene where one of the girls was on her period and poor Lito had to have the symptoms? That scene ha me laughing so hard.

Capheus. Because he relishes everything he gets to experience through the other 7. Being on a plane? Visiting Seoul? Watching a Van Dam me film with Kala and geeking out over it? Hell, even when he helps save Nomi, he has a go at stunt driving. He has the most fun being a sensate.

To me it didn't really matter so much that those last 3 episodes are the only ones dealing with the overarching story... But I am the kind of person who likes slow moving shows/movies. I like them taking their time introducing the characters and giving us most of a season to get to know each of them. My favorite character was probably Amanita, but that is partly because I love Freema from when she was on Doctor Who/Torchwood and she is just hot as hell... But of the 8 I would say Wolfgang so far, loved the action scenes with him in them as well as the matchup of him and Kata...

I think the reason it is slow, is because this show wants to be in it for the long term. They want to evolve the relationship between all the characters to make them as rich as they can be, so we can care for all 8 of them as much as we'd care for 1 really good main character. After all, these 8 people form one cohesive character.

I really love this show. I thought all the characters were amazing and were definitely not one note. In many ways this season felt allot like the origin story and if a season 2 is going to be made (which I think their will be one) then it will most likely carry on the pace and tone of the last three episodes. We basically saw a origin story for 8 main characters before we got in to it, its basically batman begins times 8. I also think many are going in to this show with the wrong expectation. It is less like heroes and is more of a character piece. The show is much more interested in exploring the "im not alone" concept. How everyone is caught up in their everyday lives and struggles and then they find someone half way across the world has had similar experiences. There was a scene in episode 9 between Nomi and Lito that really had me tearing up. They were talking about their experiences, first what he had been through, then she told him what life was like for her growing up and her getting bullied and it was like in that moment he saw her experience (i think he did) and felt her pain and suddenly shouted "stop it!". It was moments like that, which made the show special. I think this first season is like season 1 of babylon 5. The Introduction, then season 2 and 3. Rising action. season 4. climax. season 5 denoument. In that case the following seasons are going to be incredible.
@BingeWatchers9 жыл бұрын
nolan palmer That scene between Nomi and Lito was incredible, it was one of those scenes where they just talked and didn't get caught it in the "what does it all mean?" philosophy stuff. I think that this season really was mostly an origin story, but they could have done most of it in half the episodes. I'm also pretty sure that they will do a season 2 next year, and it has so much potential to be amazing.
@drakenfist9 жыл бұрын
I agree. I read that originally it was going to be eight episodes long, focusing on one character per episode. I wonder if that approach would have worked better, at least for the first season. As to your criticism of characters philosophizing the nature of reality "what this all means" all the time. That type of storytelling is penchant of straczynski's whom did it all the time in Babylon 5. I personally don't mind it too much. My main criticism is when you would have multiple scenes that just hit the same beat, most notable in Kala's early scenes which went on far too long with such a thin storyline which didn't pick up until wolfgang appeared. Heck I didn't even know she was a pharmacist! (just read it on wiki!).

This is one of my favourite series ever. I like characters to be properly fleshed out and appreciate that it takes time to do that properly so I don't find the pacing too slow. For me the emotional content is the critical factor that really makes this work, connecting very different characters at a deep level and exposing prejudice for the futile nonsense that it is. Great review, I just finished the series and loved it. I was amazed by the art as you call it and the entire series looks visually stunning. The parts where people were borrowing the skills of others was indeed perfect. Even the action scenes looked amazing. Great cast with a lot of new faces for me. As far as the characters go, I really liked the diversity of characters. All 8 characters had their own interesting stories and struggles. I would have liked to see more characters getting involved in the overarching storyline, which seemed to focus mainly on Will, Riley and Nomi. I'm not that easily shocked with violent or nude scenes but this series is definitely somewhere at the top of some the most visually explicit gore/nude scenes I've seen in a TV series. I really didn't expect this based on the trailers. One thing I would have liked to see was that people should have been speaking their own languages. This would have added much more authenticity to them. Hooefully there will be a season 2 where we will find out more the sensates.

This show take an incredibly long time to get itself going.. The only think that kept me watching is the incredible potential for a great story I kept feeling the more I watched and got to know the characters. I will admit that they went really far the the homosexual themes but I like things that dont worry about running the risk of making people uncomfortable. The last 3 episodes were worth the wait, and I especially loved the scenes when they crossed into each others worlds and helped each other out. It felt like having a group of best friends all over the world who are there whenever you need them. That resonates with me for some reason
