More people need to hear your story!! These MLM’s are criminals!

Such an interesting topic and likable guest! I had no idea such groups used the same techniques as harmful cults. Good information to be armed with in these economically uncertain times. I really appreciate the variety of topics on the channel, Chris! Keep it up!

Thanks for having me on Chris. So much to unpack when it comes to this "business opportunity." What some think is so innocent is much darker and deeper.

@Lawofimprobability absolutely! This is something I speak about often in the videos I make. Overall, those in MLM will just cut people out of their lives who do not "support" them. I have made a couple videos on the Watts case. Her last trip to N Carolina was to build her network back there. I also recall I think it was in the discovery where one friend said that they hid Chris's FB because every post was about Thrive. When you are in it, you do not realize you are spending your social capital. There are instances of divorce and suicide due to being involved with this type of "opportunity." David Brear I think has written about MLM and suicide on his blog, MLM The American Dream Made Nightmare. I aligned myself with him, Robert Fitzpatrick, and Doug Brooks when I saw what MLM truly is. The work they have done, and others, to fight against this structure is immense. There is still a long fight ahead of us!

This was a really good one. I have ALMOST gotten into MLM before more than once. It just never quite made sense and I never got too far into it but this all makes so much sense. I have even had several friends and family members that have done some of these things. So crazy!

I’ve almost got involved in an MLM thankfully I got out quick. MLM are scary

The most insidious thing is they get your best friends and family. People you trust to suck you into it.

It is very common for MLM’s to go thru a neighborhood allowing half a dozen or so people to sign on with no realistic hope of ever making any money. Two I saw very active were pampered chef and Longinberg baskets. I would end up invited to three parties for the same product line in the same neighborhood. With pampered chef products they were mostly subpar to Williams Sonoma/Sur La Table yet sold for same prices.

Yes! I am here for this because we all know at least one person in one. I'm so tired of them and how they constantly pretend to be legit businesses offering paying jobs or my family and friends asking me to join them on a "challenge". I was worried about a friend being in a cult like Nexium or something cause of the cult language and secrecy about her "mentors" and her "network" but it turned out to just be Amway. The less they disclose about the "business" up front the more cult-ish the MLM is.

My husband’s own doctor sold Amway, and of course prescribed the Amway brand of vitamins and supplements to his patients. So disgusting to prey on people who think they are ill. Finally convinced my husband to try a new doctor. Amazingly - nothing wrong with him and no need for $120 in Fish Oil each month.

When you do decide to do the deep dive in mlm I think it would be great if you chatted Monica Hayworth, Savanna Marie, Kiki Chanel, and iiluminaughtii. I learned as much from them about mlm as I have from you about cults. They can talk broad or dig very deep on the subject. Glad you're approaching it from the cult angle.

Fresh out of college I was recruited by Primerica (through an newspaper add in the business section, something like "corporate finance trainee" job offer). Left less than a month later when I realized not one single meeting I had to attend was a training session on the company's product. All were about recruiting and I'm pretty sure at least half the audience had no clue as to what a "financial service" even meant. At one such conference, I have a particular memory of the wives of the "top performing" speakers raving about how their millionaire husbands were such good providers and their cubic zirconia rings sparkling under the spotlights. Thinking to myself "real diamonds don't flash like that". Odd sticking point, but may have been that tipping point moment for me to get out of dodge. Hard to say now.

So... What is BeachBody? What is Shakeology? What products or services does this company offer? You’re talking between yourselves without providing any background. I learned about your guest’s experience with them but nothing about the company itself. Some background would have helped put your 1 hour conversation into perspective.

Regulatory agencies always serve the worst elements of whom they are supposed to regulate .Conventional police enforcing laws against larceny and fraud have more potential.

Before the internet the lady love bombers liked to approach future victims at high end Dept stores especially in make-up and fragrance counters for Mary Kay. Long story I quit a great job with good salary and bonus potential. My loss was just under 1,000.

I wonder how many people stay in MLMs out of the "sunk cost" fallacy? A friend tried to recruit me into an MLM and pointed me to websites with "scientific articles" about the product. Smelled fishy so I did my own research and quickly decided - nope this is a pyramid scheme, with no true science and a whole lot of criticism from real researchers

Loved this Chris - it kind of answers the whole " how stupid are you to get involved in this " or " I'd nebver get involved in this , I'm clever" Who has either started these things or bought products from people to try and help them up the ladder. We are complicit. If your circumstances change who truly knows what they'd do or believe in order to allieviate any challenges they are faced with. I love Shaun T from Beach Body but started to move away when he introduced Shakeology on his shows - I cannot stand being sold to and do not trust celebrity endoresements. I was contacted by a BB coach when I joined a FB group that I left pretty much after a month she was lovely but she was a Hi Hon! Rule for life : no such thing as a free lunch - I apply this to everything.

Sounds like the Mormon Church. Supposedly one of the biggest creators/backers of MLS schemes. The church hierarchy operates the same way. The church/corporation isn’t at fault for anything. The members are required to blame themselves for any doubt or lack of time for the myriad of busywork required of them by its leaders. After all the church/corporation is perfect.😭 Do Not question their authority over you!

Thanks for the interview, but OMG your make up girl! red eye lids look sore and is a no-no for Caucasian skin. And your drinking straw smothered in lipstick, yuck. Sorry for having to say this but I could not walk by. Hope you don't take offence and take it as positive criticism.
