I was having the most DIFFICULT time just germinating these seeds! Googled it and if you actually soak it in warm almost hot water, wrapped in a paper towel, for about a day and take it out and let it sit on a heat mat with a setting of 75°F, in about 4-5 days you can get some sprouts! I am endlessly jealous of people who had an easy time germinating these babies.

We had an extremely difficult and unsuccessful time, too! See my OC on the main comment page. I found out these plants thrive in soil with added fertilizer. I added worm castings, and my live plant that I had shipped thrived after that. Before that, I almost lost it, too. 😮

Hope to keep my little seedling alive til next summer. Based in Norway so a bit stressed for the winter months ... :/ Nice video :)

Were you able to get it to recover? I found out they really like fertilizer. They respond very well to it (see my comment on the main comment area). Obviously yours would have either lived or not by now. But if yours didn't make it, you should try again and add worm castings (natural fertilizer) to the soil before watering. BTW, I love Norway! I flew in to Bergen in 1990 and toured your gorgeous country (plus Sweden, Denmark and Finland) for 2 1/2 weeks. Loved it! I even learned a little Norwegian before leaving but have forgotten it since then. 😊

These are not easy to grow from seeds. We didn't have success with that regardless of what we tried. I ended up getting a live plant shipped instead. It did have difficulty surviving shipping. I had to revive it using a fertilizer. I put some worm compost (you can buy this commercially) on top of the soil and gave it a good watering. It took a good month for it to revive and look healthy enough to tolerate being transferred to a bigger pot. I mixed in worm compost with the new soil before transplanting it to the new pot. Now it's overgrown (intentionally on my part); it's thriving; and it's starting to produce flowers. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to keep it growing indefinitely once it produces seeds. I'm guessing the seeds will naturally sprout and grow new plants if they drop into the soil. But I want to try planting some of these seeds to see if we can have more success. I think we failed in our initial attempts to grow from seed because we didn't add any fertilizer to the soil. Supposedly the soil we purchased should have had the right amount of Nitrogen etc. I think if we'd added the worm compost to the soil, it would have created a better environment for the seeds to start growing. We had only gotten our first seeds to the seedling stage where the plants were growing cotelyns. We were lucky to even get THAT far! That was on the third attempt and after 4 weeks of planting and waiting and planting more and waiting. Ugh! Anyway, hopefully the seeds from an already healthy growing plant will work better.

I usually have excellent luck with plants and gardening, but my poor sensitive plant might not make it. What am I doing wrong? Is it too hot outside? Should I bring it in? Is the pot too big? Is it getting too much water? Wrong soil?

Hope it's still alive! I found out mine that I had shipped thrives on worm castings added to it's soil. The casting are natural fertilizer. I can't tolerate the smell of the man-made ones. Lol Anyway, you can get the worm castings commercially from Amazon or whomever you want to get them from. My tomatos took off after I added it to their soil, too. Worm castings sounds super gross, but it's actually not. I thought it was going to be a bunch of wet poop in a bag. Thankfully it's completely dry and looks just like soil. I won't use bare hands to touch it because the thought of it kind of grosses me out. Lol But it's been working super well for everything I add it to so far. 😊

Oh! About watering. They seem to love water, but I read you can over water them. I'm only watering once every 7-10 days. I wait until the leaves are getting a little droopy (not by touching them or anything) before I water it. Then, I put it's container in a sink full of water for around 30 minutes plus add a little water on top, and my plant seems to be fine with that process. It's not showing any kind of root rot. And it perks right up after being rewatered. As for sun, I have mine sitting in a Southwest facing window. It doesn't really get much direct light. My succulents, orchid and touch-me-not all like the window. So, I'd say to put it somewhere where it gets indirect light.

@@scootermom1791 the poor little babe didn’t make it. I’ll remember the worm castings next time. They are abundant naturally in my outdoor gardens, but I didn’t think about that in the pot. Thank you! 💚

@@celesteisneat I'm so sorry! I truly am! I love mine, but it's apparently at the end of it's life cycle. It's producing flowers so far, but not seeds, yet. I've been trying a few different things hoping it will produce seeds. They are supposedly overly abundant in the wild and don't have any issues producing seeds. It's supposed to come naturally for them. That's what I keep telling my plant. Lol just kidding. Anyway, I hope it produces seeds, so I can keep it's "legacy" alive. 😂 Good luck with your future plant. I hope it will work out a lot better for you.

They're called shame plant, too. It's because the leaves seem to hide in shame when touched (like a child who hides "in shame" after being scolded). 😊

@@Scrimgly-scrumblyit totally is! I prefer the touch-me-not name, myself, and I've started calling mine grumpy and grouchy, too. They're so temperamental but awesome at the same time. Lol
