I have worked in the criminal justice system for over 27 years. I don’t consider myself liberal at all. But I have watched the system swallow up people. I have watched the innocent plea out of desperation. I have watched people lose their jobs and family because they can’t make bail. I have watched some 1st time offenders get leniency and the book thrown at others. I am in close proximity of public defenders and prosecutors and it’s shocking how they work together to decide the fate of real people. If you can’t afford a paid attorney, the outcome likely isn’t in your favor.

One week a kid whose crime was being Stupid got 15 yrs--while a Mental patient who walked away from an Institution; got Violent when drunk and bought alcohol; went to visit a mother and daughter who had a Florist shop and had been kind enough to hire him for a job years earlier--and beat the old Mother with the wooden leg of a chair-- who was in a Coma in the hospital and eventually died--just sent him back to the institution he walked Away from and hitchhiked down the road! He got Nothing! Judges so full of Themselves and "the Law"--that literally at the end of a Trial--Tell the Jurors what to Do! You should see the look on their faces at some point in what he saying, like "Is He telling us what we should do!?--well why the heck am I, here!?" I made an Escape Olan and got out of there. And Why, Haven't they!? Shifty and Shameful.

Not only does this happen. I used to not believe the stories when people would say I'm innocent I didn't do anything. Until I walked out my door half way up my block and was tackled. I had nothing in my possession except a few dollars. Not even 20 all together. Charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. They arrested around 15 people that day . There was about 6 of us who literally was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even my neighbor whom worked for the postal office was arrested. Now there was illegal activity going on . But not with everyone that was arrested. I was sentenced to 5 years probation for that. That 5 years turned into 11 from me violating. Postal worker was fired . And I was kind of stuck in my situation for me not having a paid lawyer. When you don't have a lawyer they appoint you a public defender that just so happens to be friends with the judge and the district attorney. How do you win in that situation. Especially when they come and tell you your facing 10 years jail time but they can get you probation. Mind you you will get this offer after sitting for months so you're already anxious to get out of jail. So you take the first deal they give you just because you want to go home. That's our Philadelphia system for you.

Those that are in places and positions that do influence society are continuously feeding the beast within us with the entertainment industry, the lax laws that cater to the criminal, the propaganda spread through the internet.. What I see children now exposed to is ruining the fabric of decency within our existence. For anyone wondering how his sister got the watch, the police had her vehicle. There is no guarantee that the watch wasn't in the vehicle. I think the police did it. I don't think they were chasing her car. I think a police officer pulled her over and did this. There isn't any DNA evidence at all, fingerprints, nothing. She had a nice car with a Florida tag. Her windows appeared to be tinted. That's enough for a police officer to stop her. This case makes no sense. Did she visit any furniture stores at all?

I am sorry that this young woman was murdered. committing a crime is always wrong. However treating a person with cognitive disabilities , the same as a normal person is ALWAYS wrong. Now I didnt know this young man or the extent of his abilities, but I do know a young man who had massive brain damage due to an aneurism. I was very very close to him and was like a second mother to him. It was a wonder he lived, they didn't think he would, but that said, he was never the same. He was more like an 11 or 12 year old child. This young man had had a very difficult life growing up, and was from a dysfunctional family. When he moved back in with his mother, ( after 3 years of recovering in hospitals and nursing homes,) they would fight, and she would get frustrated and scream at him, and smack him and call him a "retard". I could hear her screaming at him on the phone. One day he got angry and set the house on fire. He knew it was wrong, but due to the damage in the temporal lobe, consequences and impulse control were effected from the aneurism. His mom was fine and insurance built a new house, but my loved one went to prison, a real prison with murderers and rapists. This was his first ever offence period. We wanted him to serve in a minimum security facility or an institution. He was not a dangerous person normally. In fact he smiled all the time, told jokes and was very happy go lucky; He just couldn't handle the constant stress. His mom was a hoarder, and yelled at him all the time. He needed to be put into a group home or something like that. A stable ordered living situation. Anyway, a bit of extra background that's off topic I suppose. Well this young man 22 years old, was jumped in prison and killed, stabbed in the eye. Besides being cognitively disabled, he was also blind in one eye, paralyzed in one arm, and drug one leg. Do you think an adult with the mind of a child and various physical disabilities should be housed with extremely violent inmates? I would have never thought this could happen in the US, but it did happen; and no one did anything to help, no one stood up for him, no body called in Drs to testify as to his limitations, did no testing of his mental capacity, nothing. And I assure you there are thousands of people just like him in hard core prisons right now. Yes criminals need to be held accountable. But where do we draw that line?? More needs to be done. I dont think this man should have been put to death, I do think he should have served life, and he was most likely in the right place. My point is just, this bears thinking about. It could be your loved one?
@retromoviefan944 Жыл бұрын
the problem with putting someone like your loved one in a group home is that there's not very much supervision and a lot of these homes are in residential neighborhoods (which they shouldn't be). As an arsonist, he might have done it again and burned down the group home or a neighbors home. So unfortunately he needed to be in a locked down situation where he was supervised long term and completely off the streets. As you say, he also knew right from wrong, so it was more of an anger or impulse control situation with him. But it does sound like he should have had more testing done to be sure of the best place to put him, not in with ultra violent felons.

Wow, what a heartbreaking story! The loss of such a beautiful soul, with so so much potential is forever heartbreaking, but this man was made accountable with his very life for a murder he did not commit! Yes, he was involved, and there needed to be accountability and justice for the victim, but he was in the car, and someone else pulled the trigger! I do not think justice has been served, it has been paid for with this man's very life, but the actual killer is still out there, why the hell has he not been brought to justice?! Why the hell have they stopped looking for the actual killer?! I think with the advancement in DNA technology and a new look at the case, they could still find the killer, and that would bring about the truth and maybe gain real justice in this case for both Marjorie 'Greta' Mason, and Barry Lee Fairchild. Please understand that I know that man was guilty, he just wasn't guilty of murder, as he was sitting in the car, and the watches were NOT THE SAME, BUT SIMILAR, and both the truth and actual justice, in this case, has yet to be obtained. It would be my hope that this case was reopened, and with fresh eyes, and advancement in DNA technology, that both the truth and actual justice be obtained. I'm sure there are organizations, somewhere that would be willing to take up this very important cause for both the truth and actual justice for the victim's Also, I don't believe in the death penalty, and please just hear me out. My goal would be to make the murderer/convicted felon/monster suffer, BUT once the murderer has been executed, his/her pain & suffering stops, this gives them a free get-out-of-jail/accountability card! It's all over for them, and life goes on, BUT if they receive life in jail without parole, for as long as they live, hopefully for a very long time, they are stuck in a cell, and their best day is when they get a visit from loved ones, or a conjugal visit, THAT'S AS GOOD AS IT CAN POSSIBLY GET FOR THEM! and to me, THAT IS PAIN & SUFFERING! When these monsters have been denied an entire life, but have to suffer through their new shitty life in jail, to me THAT IS JUSTICE! For rapists, and pedophiles especially, life in prison without the chance of parole is the perfect place for them because what society can't legally do, justice is obtained in jail through the rapists/pedophiles being brutally raped, controlled, and owned, being traumatized over and over again via regular and hopefully violent rapes! THIS IS exactly what they deserve, to actually know what their victim genuinely felt and suffered through, and they should feel this on a regular basis, to me this is justice, execution is again, just a get-out-of-jail/accountability card! I don't know why people can't see this? Also, this way if they get life in prison without the chance of parole, if they actually are innocent, it will be proven somewhere along the line and no one's life gets unjustly taken, as this is a mistake that cannot be rectified, and to just say oops, oh well, is not good enough anymore, but the actual monster can and should suffer the rest of their life in jail, and hopefully for a very long, long time. Oh, and yes, I know it would cost a lot of money, but the government would just piss away that money on less important things, somewhere else anyway. What do you guys think?

A lot of what you said makes sense but I am still for the death penalty bc there is always some chance of release with more liberal judges & lax sentences. "to many people would be to be embarrassed to admit they got it wrong" these words near the end are truly frightening, to think people would rather let someone be put to death than get over their embarrassment at getting things wrong is a truly terrible indictment of the way some people see this world. I am first and foremost terribly sad that Marjorie 'Greta' Mason lost her life and all she could have been to a senseless murder and everything her family has had to go through, I am also terrified that Barry Lee Fairchild was put to death with no "real" evidence to prove he ever killed anybody, I do not know how any of the central characters supposedly upholding and dispensing law and justice in this case can sleep at night believing they have done the "right" thing, this is one of the most disturbing documentaries I have seen.

That now the standard is someone to corroborate a confession? That it's much more understood that police coerce a lot of confessions? I've seen two shows on white cops wrongfully convicted for murder after their own dept colleagues got it wrong

This case is an absolute clusterfuck. No one will ever convince me that Barry being black had nothing to do with it, I truly believe it was probably 98% of the reason he was found guilty the other 2% being that he was poor. I'm a middle-aged white chick that lives in Australia so please don't assume I am jumping on some bandwagon because I'm not. Arkansas unfortunately does have a bad history with racism and we all need to be honest, this issue was still raging when Barry Fairchild was arrested. If he was there or not....I really don't know but I do believe he didn't pull the trigger. Lastly, it is so very sad that throughout all this fighting for Barry (which in of itself was warranted), the most important issue here was forgotten and that was a very talented young lady who lost her life in a very brutal way. R.I.P Marjorie a.k.a Greta, taken way to soon 🕊 ❤️

One important thing that i didnt see was why didnt they take a DNA test? That would have solved everything. Instead of draging this case on for years. That would have solved a very important question.
@JennAyBaybAyy Жыл бұрын
This happened in 1983, the could have taken dna.... they didn't use DNA for crime til 86 in the U.S. but they still should have taken it, especially since it was a rape and murder.

The detail about the phone book being used to hide evidence of a beating is compelling. I don’t see that as being something you just make up without knowing first hand that it works, it’s obvious to me that Fairchild did not make that up, he experienced it. RIP beautiful Greta, you were truly a remarkable woman that accomplished many things.

After watching this twice,.. there’s so many inconsistencies on both sides, I can’t see how anyone could find out the truth in this matter at that time. Thank God for advanced forensic technology in these days and times! I know there have been several innocent people put in prison and even been put to death in the past,..all cultures/races,.. which is really really sad. It’s also sad for the victim and their families. I pray that us humans will keep working at doing better in our justice system throughout generations to come,…and that no matter who you are or your status in society, “if you do wrong and break the laws of society,.. then you should be held accountable.
