Here in Florida, she was past 18 years of age when she committed the murder. We recently gave a 16-year-old who brutally stabbed a 13 year-old 114 times, a girl, 25 to Life. He won't get out in 25. We don't want him out! Look up the Aiden Fucci trial.

she will hurt anyone that gets in her way. she didn’t care if it’s her mom and supposed best friend that was going to hold her responsible…. i don’t understand why they keep coddling her as if she is an angel. brenda’s kindness seems to be used to justify being lenient to sydney, when in fact, it just shows how cruel sydney was. how could sydney beat to death someone that was so kind and loving? it wasn’t like sydney grew up in an abusive environment and only knew to be violent. it’s sickening that these “friends and family” pretend to speak for brenda and say this is what brenda would’ve wanted.

Why does this judge sound almost apologetic while delivering her sentence. Bludgeoning and stabbing your own mother to death but you are being treated like you are the victim 😮. Im genuinely trying to understand the sympathy for this manipulative lying murderer. What about the life of the actual victim whose life was so brutally taken away from her.

Prosecutors say that Sydney repeatedly beat her mother in the head with the cast-iron skillet then retrieved a steak knife and stabbed her nearly 30 times. She had to switch weapons and keep attacking her mom," assistant prosecutor Brian Stano told jurors. "That is purposeful. That is trying to end someone."

The only people who did the right thing here was the jury. The judge failed miserably. She should resign. She treated a vicious killer with kid gloves. This is outrageous! I hope the community votes her out ASAP. Like any other Skell Sydney needs to report to gladiator school and see what Bertha has in store for her, but instead she will go to some hospital setting with a bed so it possibly appears. They failed society and the community. If other potential would be killers see how Sydney was treated and the possibilities of getting off they could decide to kill opposed to deterrence. This was handled unprecedented from the start giving bond to a vicious psychopath. Then the 3 years on the loose. Then the unprecedented court room favors given to Sydney. This case is crazy. The people in it are crazy. The only sane person here is Sydney herself. She’s the puppet master and she succeeded pretty good. She set this up pretty good for the next person including herself. She knows next time not to break any windows just lay down on the ground with your tongue hanging out and you will get off Scott free…

“She has never been in trouble before” does not pertain at all because she is now a cold blooded murderer. Her life before is irrelevant. I am shocked by this minimum mandatory sentence. What does that do to protect mothers who wholeheartedly love, support and help their children? Sydney Powell can beat her mom’s head with a cast iron frying pan, stab her mom in the neck thirty times, lie about her crime to police and be out of jail when she is 35 to enjoy the rest of her life as a free citizen and possibly murder others. Unacceptable. This entitled, spoiled child who is now a murderer needs to be in prison for the rest of her life. Innocent members of society have a right to be kept safe from this evil murderer. The judge failed at sentencing. She failed Sydney, Brenda and all of society.

No community letters supporting the prosecution and the jury were allowed? That's sickening. They would have been way more numerous than the family's. I cannot believe the prosecutor is the only one who is concerned for Miss Brenda. As a mother of two boys, one who had despised me for trying to steer them on the right path. He has since verbalized that he knew I was just trying to protect him. I don't know her, but I feel for Miss Brenda. The family appeared not to have cared about Miss Brenda, but there are people who do. This is going to be a measuring stick for children who purposefully kill their parents. I really don't want people like her around to cause more havoc. She will send message to other children who think of their parents , especially their mom. I don't think her attorney even believe what he is saying. The one psychologist who testified was the only credible one. Saying she is not certified is absolute nonsense. I hope no one else pay any attention that garbage. May Miss Brenda rests in peace. I really did not see any remorse. Sydney is not the child who killed their parents and they almost always was trying to deceive their parents and was about to be found out. The wishes of the victim, that is Miss Brenda; what would she say, I think she would say, take her out of sight, period. Yes, the court should listen to the general public because we will be next considering how viscous she was with her own mother.

it’s sad that everyone - saying Brenda was so kind and loving and was a positive influence on the community - failed to realize it makes sydney brutally killing brenda even more horrific. if brenda was an abusive and horrible mom, it would’ve been more justifiable- still wrong but at least you could somewhat understand. sydney grew up in a loving family and her mom gave her everything…sydney doesn’t feel any remorse for killing her - in fact, no one is holding her accountable for failing college anymore. they coddle her more now that she’s pretending to be suffering from ptsd, anxiety, psychosis, etc.

15 to life with the other charges running concurrent to that. Which means if she behaves herself in prison and goes up before the parole board in 15 years they can let her go. That is absolutely disgusting. Absolutely unexceptable sentencing inexcusable behavior. I guess the judge didn't take into consideration how her mother must have suffered greatly as she was being murdered. I guess she also didn't think it was necessary to tell this young murderer what a horrible thing she did and how she should think about that every day that she's in prison. NO ONE knows what Brenda would’ve wanted. sydney silenced brenda forever so we will never know if brenda would hold her accountable. sydney beat her mom and supposed best friend to death. if someone can murder a loving, kind best friend, i’d hate to see what harm she will do to the next person that gets in her way. how sad that a precedent is set where an adult (19yr old is adult by society standard) gets only 15 (can get out in probably 5yrs) for murder + tampering with evidence.

Didn't she get life with the possibility of parole AFTER serving 15 years (mandatory of 15 to life)? If that's correct she has to serve at least 15 and, there will be no getting out after 5, or any other number other than 15. 15 is still not enough years for committing murder...of anyone. She may, or may not, get out of prison when she will be 34 and, if she does get out at 34 she will most likely have at least that many years left to live outside of prison. There should be much stricter laws when it comes to murder of family members, especially family of the home....parents and siblings.

My mother is not alive either, but I didn’t murder her. She passed away from stage four colon cancer, so Sydney should be thinking about that as she’s spending 15 years to life in jail that she could’ve had her mother still alive.

It makes sense that her Mom was a child specialist but couldn't raise her own child properly. Parents, nowadays, receive THE WORSE advice to discipline our children. Sydney is NOT a child and she doesn't have schizophrenia or even if she does, it didn't cause her to kill her mother. She didn't want her Mom to find out she had been kicked out of school. Schizophrenic people do things because of hallucinations, etc. She knew exactly what she was doing. She should've had the wherewithall to have a conversation with her Child Specialist mother like my child was able to when he was kicked out not once but twice and now we are helping him go into the military. This is "white girl privilege" and I am disgusted. Sydney will be back out in a few years, again bc of white privilege, and she will kill again bc she has learned nothing from this situation. Mark my words.

I agree but lately it's about " criminal privilege" .Crime is rampant because the perpetrators are coddled and treated like the real victim while the actual victims are disregarded. This is happening across the board with all races getting slaps on the wrists for horrific crimes. Then you have victims being criminalized. I doubt Kyle Rittenhouse felt like he had white privilege working for him at all while he was dragged through the mud forprotecting himself.

It isn't "white privilege. " She got 15 to life. Betty Broderick shot her ex and his new wife, for tormenting her, got 30 to Life. It was in 1989. Betty is STILL in there.

Sydney murdered her Mom in cold blood, I believe she new what she was doing at the time of the murder.. (there's so many people who in reality suffer from severe mental health issues)!!! and I just wish some of the letters were read out in court. Sydney is not special and different from any other person who committed a brutal murder, 15 years... no costs,!!! May her Mom RiP ✝️❣🙏 watched from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦

I feel so badly for her mom and dad. What her mom went through during the horrific pain she suffered, fully knowing that it was her baby who was killing her, I can't fathom the horror...I hope as this young woman sits in prison, that she relives what she did every day and realizes that it was her and only her who caused this end to her mother's life. Being kicked out of school wasn't that bad of a thing. All she had to do was just honestly tell her mom and dad that she couldn't do school. She wasn't able to handle studying. Some people just can't study and pass classes. It's not the end of the world if she failed. She could have just gotten a job and moved on. Instead she decided to do the unthinkable and destroyed her mom's life, dad's life, and her own. All over a stupid college course. She must have been used to hitting her mom and being allowed to go through rages unchecked. Have a nice life.

This sentence was soft & not justice! It's not surprising given that this marshmallow of a judge coddled & showed favoritism towards Miss Powell throughout this trial. This judge gave Miss Powell permission to leave the actual courtroom during the trial when evidence of her murderering her own devoted & loving mom would be too emotional for her to bear. Seriously? Due to her fake schizo defense... She was too fragile? I appreciate this prosecution & jury who did not get sucked in to Miss Powell's victim performance. This sentence was NOT comparable to what someone else, who was not a young white entitled female like Miss Powell (a convicted brutal & rage-filled murderer of her own devoted mom) would have received. Not even close. This sentence is not justice for all!

As a mom who loves her kids dearly and a person in a community of faith, my wishes would be that I wanted to be alive and living to forgive a child their trespasses. If I was brutally beaten and stabbed, there needs to be justice in this world and the next. I would vehemently hope my husband puts MY life as valuable and meaningful that he would allow the state to prosecute at the very least. I concur with others here. All people in prison have some mental deficit. Otherwise, they would not make the choices they made. But it's choices, isn't it? She made a vile and deplorable choice. I hope she stays all 15 years.

Mental Health services need to be mandatory through age 17 for all children as part of their growth and development into Loving Productive Citizens. We don't give enough help to children that need it. Many times they have too much pressure and stress and don't have the emotional and mental strength to cope.... Let alone the horrific things they are exposed to in this perverted world.😢

If this girl was sane when she killed her mother in a frenzy then I would like to know what insanity is Even with trying to cover the crime up no one can say an otherwise non violent person can be truly sane in such circumstances She is very lucky to have such a lenient sentence but her family deserve that more than she does..
