My utmost respect to Senti and Hopong. To my fellow Sumis, I find it both encouraging and challenging that our non-Sumi speaking friends are embracing and honoring our dialect by singing in it with such beauty and fluency. Meanwhile, many of us who are Sumi by heritage are not speaking our own dialect. It's ironic that some of us, in an attempt to seem sophisticated, try to emulate Westerners, glorify their culture, and prioritize speaking English over our own mother tongue. This mindset is not only embarrassing but also shameful, as it involves denying one's own identity and pretending to belong to a perceived superior class.
