Only thing I would change would be to add the measurements for us. Can't wait to build one and try it out this summer. Thank you so much. Good Job

Myself and a friend have both built one of these. We found that a flow of five gallons in 30-31 seconds was perfect. At that speed we are not losing any visible gold. We put a lot of time into testing this. Who needs hog mats?

When you built your units how tall did you make the ends? Don mentions that the horizontal pipe is 2 feet long but he makes no mention of how long each of the side pipes are. Any measurements would be appreciated. Thanks

In the first video he said it was a head height of 2&1/2 feet, that’s the side of the fill tank the other is the height of the five gallon bucket, closer to two feet & looks like he changed the fitting on the output side to a ninety , when I first seen this he said capture rate was about 95 % . For what it is I think it’s a great idea.

I had this same idea in the shower the other day. Makes more sense for trapping gold than any other way of doing it, to me anyway. I bet the only reason you lost any gold at all is that your exit pipe isn't tall enough or you didn't have the flow dialed in just right. Or worst-case scenario you might need to classify down to sub 50.

It is March,2021, do you have any improvements to this PVC Gold Trap/Catching Sluice ?

So what are the measurements for this little critter?

I love your two videos, very informative. I knew as soon as I saw the first one that you had created something special and very practical. I am putting together one of my own from parts around my place. I am using one inch pvc and a small pump. The first test with black sand grabbed about 50% in the gravity pipe and about 50% in the initial bucket beneath water coming out of same pipe. Adjustments are definitely in order on my device, but was greatly pleased at first run. The gold in the pipe came out really clean. Only a few parts of black sand. I am also wish to run a very fine silt soil here in Kansas for micro gold flakes. You mention the first tub serving as a filter of sorts . I think I understand that, but how do you keep the flow between the two black tubs? Do you have to prime those two pipes connecting the tubs every time manually somehow or what? I can start mine with sucking on the tubes, but it is a bit complicated and difficult . I also notice that both of your tubs are at the same level, but is the water inside them at the same level also?

I use siphon pipes between my tubs. To prime the siphons fill the siphon with water and use a pipe cap (orange, blue, etc) on each end of the siphon to keep the water in . Now carefully place the filled pipe into the tubs and remove the cap from the upstream end of the pipe and then from the down stream side pipe end. The water will flow out of the down stream side pulling water from the up stream tub as long as the water level is higher in the upstream tub. Hope this helps and it wasn't too confusing.

Does anyone know the lengths of the vertical pieces?
