Separating Art From the Artist

It seems like big artists like Kanye West are always in the media for saying or doing something that’s received poorly by the masses. With this happening to many different artists in many different industries it has raised an important question- should we separate art from the artist? This is a common issue in the hiphop community, but it’s not isolated to the genre.

One of my favorite albums ever is You won't get what you want by Daughters. I am very aware of Alexis Marshals and the crimes he commited, and in turn how the band reacted to the allegations. However, I can't deny my kove for the album, it is so gut punching and viceral and one of the best sounding records i've ever heard. I don't condone anything done by the band, but I managed to find a balance on the separation of art and the artist

I meant it as a play on words since New Criticism’s goal was to be a more scientific approach to analyze different art that’s mostly considered subjective. Hopefully it wasn’t too much of a reach lol
