This definetely works. Since early childhood I was never able to put any work in studying while at home. This caused me endless suffering in university. But when I just started working, I knew to do exactly what you suggested. I came to the office and decided that no matter what, I'm not going to watch youtube/read stuff/check social media etc while at work. I never had any problems focusing while at work, while I still can barely put in any work at home. My brain is just too strongly conditioned that home is where I waste time.

For the bad days when you start the day sluggish, a thing that works for me is to remember the motto that "this too shall pass". It let's me just make the most out of the bad day, knowing that it won't last forever. To an extent good days and bad days will invariably happen and if it is one of those bad days that is truly out of your control then there is no point fussing about what you can't change. Just do what you can (go easy on yourself) and it will be enough.

What helped me is this: I asked myself how much discord pays me to be on their app. I mean, do I get at least the minimum wage in the poorest country on earth? No, nobody pays me. Then I asked myself, do discord makes money by me being active there? and the answer was yes. Got me thinking, any person in this world if they hear someone else is making money out of their back and they don't get a percentage, they would become mad as hell. Ok, so this isn't about discord should pay you, but about not wasting time. This can apply do other social apps, not just discord. Ok, you use youtube to watch a tutorial for how-to do something and you maybe use discord to share project files with your team or you use social to get your daily dose of entertainment, this is fine. And just like this we realize why some people are rich and some are poor, because "you" make them rich, by overusing their 'products'. Anyway, thanks for reading AEGIS AI ,lol

Hi Colin, I noticed you have a microphone on your table. I recommend going way closer to get better quality sound -- as it will pick up less hummm and echo from the background. Maybe consider getting a gooseneck with table clamp as normal stand is anoying to have just in front of you.

How long have you been doing this? I used to have a software block, but I felt that after a few months my "baseline willpower" dropped, because I wasn't exercising it as much, and so whenever I found a way to get past the barrier (a new distracting website that I didn't block yet), I immediately wasted hours on it. You don't feel your willpower just drops with time to adjust?

We need a strong resolve in order to focus. And we can't focus on any work if our mind is not ready for it. So its better to decide depending on your state of mind. Barriers will force us to do same thing everyday and we might get bored. Thats my point of view. It totally depends on you guys. Golin orz 🔥🔥

10 years ago I had realized the mental bandwidth of relying on willpower separate work from non-work time was just unnecessary. Initially I would just beat myself up if I went down some procrastination rabbit hole and tell myself I didn't have strong enough mental fortitude and I need to just develop more will power. That was until I had the realization that the distractions I was fighting against (zoning out on my phone, KZbin, etc) was literally engineered by a team of grown adults to distract me. so I started to lock my phone away in a box and put the key in a different room and only when I finished several work cycles I would check my phone. whenever someone asked about it I explained why and they just figured I was weird. this was 10 years ago before people realized how much of a problem phone distraction was so its understandable to me why they would think I was weird. fast forward to the past two years. everything that came with covid resulted in me losing the structure I had developed prior. Completely blurring the lines of work and non work which led me back to being hard on myself because everyday was spent in this "gray zone" of work and non work. I've been working on developing the structure again although it hasn't gone the very well to be honest. However after watching your video it really solidified and reminded me why I had to literally lock my phone in a box for 10 years. I've also thought about that maybe at some point I could develop the willpower to just not be affected by these temptations. but until we all have neuralinks implanted and have the rationality of a robot, I'll need to accept I'm an irrational human who will constantly do things at my detriment and the only way to put the odds in my favor is to literally just place self imposed friction between those irrational behaviors and my rational self. Not doing that is literally just unnecessarily playing life on a higher difficulty level. thanks for the video ✊
@ABC-jq7ve Жыл бұрын
Actually, you are being rational by being drawn by the phone. Your brain can’t see the reward of working. But it can see the reward of scrolling on KZbin and being entertained for hours with no cost. So at the biological level you are being rational.
@JuneJuneyJunJune Жыл бұрын
That’s so true what you said about removing the need to use willpower to resist the temptation of distraction and getting those little dopamine snacks. Rather use that energy in just creating doing the actual work rather than resisting the need for distractions

Bro if u still here try starting with learning how memory works (stack, heap, FILO) Then move on to data structs, pointers and look out on making your own projects. Btw C is a relatively difficult lang to start off with, it's good for embedded systems and all that but difficult to start off with.

@uovo2 жыл бұрын
@@DonsT199 just search for frameworks to do different kinds of stuff in the language your using, you surely coded some logic that could be applied into a small project using one of those frameworks, turning a piece of code into something thats a bit more interesting. For example i once coded the game of life into the terminal, then some time later i made a 2d game of life editor with sdl2, also i think when you are starting it doesent matter what you are doing, what really matters is that you are doing something, even if its bad or its not turning out as expected it will make you grow.
