Oh wow, this brings me back. Madonna was at her peak here. She owned the pop world. My friends and I went to see her on this tour and it was an epic show. Watching it now I'm struck by how much of her vocals and backing vocals are on the backing track. Madonna and her backing singers/dancers are clearly singing over the backing track vocals, but at times, especially during the heavier dance sequence, the backing track vocals are dominant. Loved your dancing and singing along. The show gets even more racy. She was pushing the boundaries with this tour. In some cities there were protests and even threats of arrest as she documents in her movie MADONNA: TRUTH OR DARE.
@dalee727 ай бұрын
What city did you see her in? BTW it was only in Toronto that she was threatened with arrest. No other cities threatened to arrest her. But the Pope and the Vatican tried to spread negative propaganda about the show to try to discourage people from seeing the show and I think that the Pope may have threatened to or did excommunicate her for the 2nd time because of this show.

Her concert tours are a mixture of live singing, and audio backtrack. She sings over top of her own audio, enabling her to dance and sound good at the same time. I was at this tour. She was the biggest star on the planet at the time, the show sold out in about 10 minutes flat. It was very hard to get tickets.
@dalee727 ай бұрын
She said "Do you believe in love?" in French. She would say that question in the native language of the country that she was performing in and mention the city as well. The staircase was part of the stage floor and would get propped up and unfolded out and move against the raised factory platform which was also raised from the stage floor where she would be raised up by lift from beneath the stage floor. She was singing along with a backing track for the times when she was dancing. The cone bra corset was and most of the costumes of this tour were designed by the French fashion designer Jean Paul Gauthier whose design she started wearing in 85 when she wore the black corset like dress held up by clip on suspenders at the American Music Awards to present the award for the best black album which Prince won and then she wore a white identical copy of the same dress at the Desperately Seeking Susan premiere in L.A. I saw his exhibit at the deYoung museum in SF and it was great. FYI Michael Jackson wore a similar outfit for his Dangerous Tour with the gold/yellow top with the crotch going over his black pant legs. You should react to her concert tours and music videos from the beginning of her career in order to appreciate her evolution as an artist. I'm requesting that you continue on where you left off with Borderline, Lucky Star and Like A Virgin and the early TV show performances of Everybody, Holiday and Borderline and then the Virgin Tour and the Who's That Girl Tour please.

This was a landmark tour that changed the Pop spectacle for performers. She wrote this song for a friend who had just broken up with her boybriend. (The friend was the actress Jennifer Grey). The distopian factory setting was based on the early 20th C film "Metropolis" by Fritz Lang.

Madonna sings some live and, at times, sings along to Backtracks throughout the shows, depending on the song and the physical choreography, like the opening number. Also, fun fact:all train on treadmills while singing the songs. That way, they are conditioned to be moving, dancing, and singing and don't get too winded.

Interesting tidbit about this song- it was inspired by Jennifer Grey of Dirty Dancing. She and Madonna had become good friends while doing Bloodhounds of Broadway. Grey was going through a breakup with then boyfriend Matthew Broderick. The line, “Don’t go for second best, Baby” is a tongue in cheek reference to Grey’s character “Baby” in the film.

Deleted my 1st comment. It was too ramble- y. (As I do get sometimes. Ya know me 😄) Anyhoo! What Madonna said in French: "Do you believe in love?" I cannot believe you have never heard this song. I loved it growing up. What the lyrics mean to me: Material things go in and out fashion. New models of cars, electronics, etc and so forth will always go obsolete and be replaced with new models. Don't be a thing to your partner that they can replace. You are a human being. You deserve better. Emotional investment, care, and security is what matters. The material is immaterial. Hope that makes sense. And Seph if you watch the music video to this one I think the stage set up will make more sense to you. In 1990 I was 6 years old 😉😂 FABULOUS REACTION SEPH 👏👏👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃🙌💃 Thank you for sharing 💐 Peace ✌, light 🌞, love 💖, & blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Madonna snubbed me twice. Once close up while in the back of a black car entering 'Earls Court' (the venue) London., and once during a concert someone paid for me to see at Wembley Arena, London. I like her very early songs (mid 1980's) she had much talent then, but agree with Sir Cliff Richard and others that she made many 'sexual' records in order to sell more. She was never a great actress either, apart from maybe 'Evita' where she was made for the part.
