The first PCC I ever saw was on a school trip to the Franklin Institute in 1972. A PCC crossed in front of our coach a few blocks away but I spotted it right away. So nice that young visitors can have that same experience today. That and the growl of a DC Transit Mack are my earliest out of town transit fan memories.

Man, this brings back memories of summers during the 60's visiting my Grandmother (father's mother) who lived a couple blocks off Girard in a semi-detached 3-story. Sometimes she'd take me and my younger sister shopping with her, and we'd take the streetcar. I remember once there was a PCC that had pulled up to the stop at the intersection and we hadn't got there yet. My grandmother grabbed my 3-year old sister with one hand while pulling her folded shopping cart with the other, and we ran for the car! Of course, back then they didn't have A/C, so you heard ALL the noise while trying to get a breeze. Summers in Philadelphia were always hot and humid; on really hot nights thousands of people would descend on Fairmount park around dusk with picnic blankets, just so they could get a bit of rest until their houses and apartments cooled down (the cops would start moving people out about midnight).

Enjoy! Living in the SF Bay area we see lots on the F line. They were supposed to be a stopgap while the cable car system was rebuilt, but they stop every block on Market St. while the subway stops every three or four. So the locals like them as much as the tourists. They are painted the colors of all the transit agencies that ran PCCs, so there is probably one like the one here. There are also more exotic ones from Germany, Japan, England and Australia.

There is a PCC on the F painted in these colors. Muni ran PCC cars along Market until the subway went full 7 day operation in 1982. I rode them as a kid in LA on the Yellow Cars and in SF when I visited my dad.

In Newark, NJ, we had them on the number 7 City Subway line from about 1952 until 2010. The F line had one repainted in the original NJ Public Service scheme, but the car used was actually a retired Septa car.

In my first transit visit to Philadelphia, I took part of the SEPTA 36 from the Eastwick Loop to Samson Commons, then walked to the 36th Street Portal to catch the SEPTA 10 to the Overlook Loop, Both trolley operators knew I was taking pictures from the trolley. The driver of the #10 route offered me the chance to transfer to Route 15, but I turned it down, because I wanted to take the return trip to the Market-Frankford Line and stop at Spring Valley station there. I'm kind of sorry I turned down the offer.

Boy , I wish they'd bring them back here in Toronto . I miss those " old girls " . We never lost our streetcar system but none of the rolling stock since could match the PCC's . They were TANKS .

You can see some of the ex-TTC cars in Kenosha if you're ever in the Midwest.

@@paulj6756 Ya , I thought about that the other day when I saw this . I've been to Kenosha too , but that was a few decades ago when we still had them here .

The Kawasaki LRV single ended and double ended K-Cars are better

Compared to units from 1947, sure.

@@xandervk2371 Honestly, SEPTA needs to keep that same energy for these single and double ended Kawasaki K-Cars.
