I dont understand the big box robot? Whats the purpose of it? I’ve seen a few videos and it just kinda vibes in the corner

It's basically an arena hazard controlled by the organizers.

It will help free a stuck bot once each during the fight. It also helps clean up the box after the fight.

I forgot who the enemy was but in one of project liftoffs match they took out 2 lights and the box cleaned it mid round

Yeah, that's just a referee bot used to flip bots and get them unstuck, clear the box of fallen stuff, etc

It doesn't seem like project lift off has any controll of their bot it just kind of bounces around until it connects.

i think it had more control at the start of the competition cause it can move when its optimal it controls tyhe torque in its wheels and can sorta shuffle in a direction but the areana is beaten up and it may not be as balanced as when it was new

Peoject Liftoff "kept getting hits in"? Come on... It doesn't even have any directional control. It's like the old meme where someone duct taped a knife on a roomba. That match was nothing without the other robot, because it did all of the work. If someone else made a Project Liftoff and you put the two of them in the box together, they would just bounce around each other in the box and possibly never even touch one another.
