Nice commercials. However, there was a slight inaccuracy about WICZ not having any newscasts. These commercials were from WICZ's "fat Elvis stage" when WBNG was and still is the dominant newscast in Binghamton along with then WMGC TV (currently WIVT) finally having ownership to produce a serviceable newscast. At the time, WICZ's local news output was the 5 minute cut-aways during NBC Today, and a 6 PM newscast that aired only Mondays through Fridays. Because Channel 12 was so dominant, WICZ never even tried to produce a 11PM newscast in the early to mid 1980's opting for, as you said, the Independent Network News, and later sitcoms such as WKRP in Cincinnati. WICZ would not try an 11PM newscast until they hired recently fired WBNG anchor Jim Matthews in September 1988 (coinciding with the Seoul Summer Olympics) and would not try a weekend late newscast (10PM) until late 2007 as a Fox afiliate.

It's nice to finally see some commercials from my hometown stations here. Got any more? (Also the changeover to Fox happened in April 1996, not November 1995)

Ok, which has had more people? This video or WICZ's audience 9/28/85?

13:26 - You can faintly hear the end of the theme being winded down as it fades out.

Anchor Carol Kaplan later anchored at WGRZ (Channel 2) in Buffalo, where she ended up filing a gender discrimination lawsuit against the station after she was demoted and replaced with a much younger woman (she lost and left TV news thereafter).

Why are there so many commercials for glasses? Are there a lot of blind people in Binghamton?

I wouldn't say blind, although I do wear glasses. 👓🤣 Since, I lived in the area for over 20 years and had ties to the area since I was born, I would venture to guess that the many eyeglass commercials were due to Binghamton's aging populace. As a side note, notice that they left the noise of a mic pick-up in the Binghamton Optical Vision Center ad. 😛
