Such a great idea! I'm still not in a position to do a September challenge like you did last year, but it is my ultimate goal! I have my own September challenge (and hopefully beyond) which is to give up social media. Not directly related to homesteading, but is in the way that it uses up far too much of my time. No social media = more time to develop my homestead! Because I don't watch TV, I have however, allowed myself youtube. The meals look fantastic. The pizza though 🤤🤤 Thanks for the inspiration! Really looking forward to watching the rest of your September challenge.

September rolled around so fast! Looking forward to following your challenges. We are coming to the end of our first year with the allotment and are using September to experiment with what works in terms of eating and preserving what we’ve grown. All those meals looked delicious…and in my book we should never apologise for simple food. Eggs on sourdough toast can’t be beaten for delicious simplicity 😋

Hi Carl, I was wondering if you'd done a video on the fat you use. I'd like to keep the bacon fat etc but I'm unsure if there are rules of how long it keeps for etc?

I have never done a specific video on rendering fat but I definitely should! Once it’s separated and saved in the fridge I have only once had an issue with it not keeping for months - where mould formed. On this occasion I discarded it but that must have been formed by something being in there with it contaminating it to cause the mould. Whenever I’m cooking with it it’s going to be heated to high temps so it’s super safe. As a general practice I just save all the juices from cooking meat and once cooled I seperate them into fat for frying in and a sort of ‘super stock’ with the rest. Will definitely cover this in a video at some point though. 😊👍
