This week we had a frost warning so I harvested all my outdoor tomatoes I now have 11 jars of green tomato chutney. I weeded my brassicas tunnels and harvested a red cabbage which was yummy. I was able to make veggie wraps with onions, carrot, parsnips, turnip and red peppers etc. I have taken some foliage from the pumpkin patch to open up the fruits to the sun. We had American visitors this week and I made a pumpkin pie using frozen pulp from last year’s harvest She was delighted Another good week thank you for all your guidance and support. Pete

Wow we are really on the same page. I had a lot of sunflowers and cosmos this year in my garden also and have been putting in spring onions myself. I have mine covered this year because of the very bad allium leaf miner problem I had last year. I can't match with the brassicas in my climate but hope to harvest some in the coming weeks. Grand kids are very cute and seem to be enjoying the fruits of your labor. They look like future gardeners to me.

It's awesome to hear we're both growing sunflowers and cosmos Frank! Those allium leaf miners can be quite the nuisance, but it sounds like you're managing well. We just love to see them eating great food and enjoying it. Fingers crossed for your brassicas this season!

Well, I imagine you've got lots of Melon seeds saved for next year because you won't get away with not growing an annual crop for Charlies birthday! Sounds like you may have to grow watermelon too! Sugar baby or one of the smaller varieties should ripen in your climate ok. Your garden looks very healthy despite the cool temperatures. Happy gardening everyone. 🌱🍃

Hi Mrs W and Barry. Great video. I have just topped up 2 raised bead that I was growing beetroots and parsley in. Now replaces with more beets, endive and lettuce. I am finding it hard to keep up with the harvest of tomatoes and beans- french & runner. I seem to be constantly picking and prepping them for preserving. I still have about 25 beetroots to harvest- it's just finding the time. I think my courgettes have now come to an end- very slow now. I have a lot of avoy cabbage now ready and replacement plants to put out. My sunflowers are going over now- lots of seeds for the wildlife- they will enjoy them. All my autumn sowings for over winter are doing well. They will be ready to prick out in a week, I think. My dahlias are still flowering well, but the sweet peas have now finished. my 2nd sowing of mange tout are producing well- I grew oregon first harvest and a purple one now. Waiting for a seed delivery to sow some more crops fr winter- giant winter spinach, chard and spring onions. My red cabbage is now hearted up and I will start to harvest them slowly- great they stand well, isn't it! I have just 3 melons on my plants, (Emir). Sadly no sugar baby7 watermelons :-( - maybe next year! Happy gardening 🙂

Wow, it sounds like you've got a thriving garden over there! It's amazing how much you've accomplished. We were so happy and so was Charlie that we got a melon harvest. Time is the one thing we can't preserve, like you say finding enough to keep up is a challenge. Keep up the great work with all those vegetables Be!

Thank you so much for your kind words Darren! I appreciate your interest in storage tips-keeping onions fresh is all about the right environment! We keep ours in our pantry which is cool and dark with good airflow. A shed or garage works really well, we just live in an old house with a pantry. Do avoid storing them in plastic bags, a net or slatted crate helps to create the air flow!
