Very informative! I ended up watching the entire video. I just found out yesterday that my apartment building uses a septic tank instead of a connection the city sewerage. A plumber visually inspected the tank and said it may require cleaning within a few months or about a year, that kind of tipped me off. So I have been watching videos on septic tank for the past few hours and here I am. I have a question though. In one video it showed that septic tank additives (bacteria) can be added to increase the bacteria level and accelerate the decomposition. In fact it said that it can also reduce the sludge built up at the bottom of septic tank. Is this true?

I'm glad you found it informative! Yes, generally there is a type of bacteria that can be added to a septic system to aid in the breakdown of material, but that only goes so far. There is byproduct and leftover material that turns to sludge that will eventually have to be pumped. Side note, most of hte bacteria product additives are for septic systems for an individual homeowner vs a communal septic tank for apartments. Sometimes it's a good idea to add the bacteria to a personal system if you use a lot of heavy soaps, conditioners, cleaners, etc., because these types of products can hurt the natural bacteria that help break down some of the solids.

@@josiahwillis1225 I had a feeling some byproduct of bacteria might turn to sludge and eventually have to be pumped out. In this building, we have 5 apartments with 4 bedrooms on each, so I think our system us pretty decent. Thanks s lot for your help!

Take a shot every time he says so. You are now completely wasted.

Step 1. If the house has septic, keep shopping. Step 2. If there is only septic in the area, you are in a bad area. Look elsewhere. Step 3. Poop tank. Gross.
