Quadra (How does a band make such a masterpiece so late into their career? easily the best vocal performance and best drum performance in a sep album) 4. Beneath the remains (This album got me into heavier thrash/Death metal) 5. Machine Messiah (Their return to true greatness) 6. Kairos (Their return to amazingness) 7. Schizophrenia (Worse version of BTR but not by much) 8. The Mediator (Such a unique vibe in their discography) 9. Roorback (Dont really get the hate) 10. Morbid Visions (Yeah it might be a shit album but its a great listen if you want a good laugh) 11. Dante XXI (An album that exists. Pretty solid) 12. Roots (Don't have any nostalgia for this album so its just always been meh for me. RBR dusted spit and cut-throat are islands of quality in a sea of mediocrity) 13. Against (Roots with derrick on vocals. Its only lower because i prefer max's performance) 14. A-Lex (Sooo bad. Imagine the last cavalera brother leaves, and three years later you drop this shitbomb, this is when they started being hated to all hell in Brazil. It was the lowest point in career, im so glad that they managed to bounce back pretty quickly. Only second to last because the songs are shorter so it gets boring less often) 15. I recently decided to re-listen to all Sepultura albums again. When I started this, this was the first time I gave the Derrick Green era a chance because years ago, I've heard stuff on Against and Nation, and wrote them off because I didn't like those. I came back and honestly, Mediator and Machine Messiah surprised the hell out of me. Quadra was also fantastic. My ranking currently is: 1. Arise (The title track, Dead Embryonic Cells, and Desperate Cry are amazing, with the latter being probably my favorite Sepultura song) 2. Chaos A.D. 3. Beneath the Remains 4. Machine Messiah (favorite album with Derrick Green on vocals. This album rules!) 5. Quadra 6. The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart (this album surprised me on how good it was) 7. Roots (I liked it back then, and have some nostalgia, but it fell after listening to their catalogue) 8. Kairos 9. Schizophrenia 10. Dante XXI (first Derrick Green era album I liked) All these albums below, I overall don't find enjoyable 11. Roorback 12. Morbid Visions 13. A-Lex 14. Nation (better than Against, but not much better, imho) 15. Against (easily the worst Sepultura album, and one of the reasons I initially gave up on the Derrick Green era, until recently) I could change where Quadra is after repeat listens. Who knows? But with the past three albums being fantastic, I can safely say I am excited for the band's future.

Jason Newsted is on the track Hatred Aside as a guest vocalist and musician (barithone guitar and supposedly percussion as well?) Best song on that record and tbh, that's why. He fits in better than Derrick on that album I'd say, also very interesting that Metallica (James in particular) let him do that. Just makes me even sadder that we never got a true thrash album with prime Jason on vocals, imagine if he'd joined Sepultera after Max left instead of Derrick? Interesting "what-if". Still surprised he never even got a vocal spot on a Metallica studio track or anything

I love Cannibal Corpse, but we can barely hear what they say and I'm concerned for the swearing. I do however play Death because I can understand what Chuck is saying. I don't do a lot of black metal and death on my show. I have to look up the lyrics so that i know when to turn it down when I have to edit for the radio. It's not Sirius XM. It's FM radio. I can understand Sepultura moren on what Max Calvera and Derrick Green are saying. I play a lot of thrash metal on my show because the bands are legendary. And I play the deep cuts from Metallica and Megadeth.

Dante XXI is the best Iggor work ever. Totally different from anything he has done so far without losing the style he has built over the years. Amazing album and probably the best after Max.

Not a fan of the post-Max albums so I'll rank the first 6: 5. Roots 4. Chaos A.D 3. Arise 2. Morbid Visions/Beneath The Remains (love them equally) 1. Schizophrenia

I know this entire album inside and out. At least 1000 full plays since I can remember. Chaos A.D. dude. In the top 10 metal albums, ever. Seriously. Every track on that album is the shit. To this day I can easily just hit play shut the fuck up & literally headbanging through the whole damn album. Roots, regardless of numetal, is still badass & Istill love it today. Not all the tracks. But most of them are good. Against was good. Roarback was good. Not the same without Max though. Not that they weren't good albums. I do absolutely love the track Bottomed Out. That song really spoke to my anger issues when I was younger. So yeah.

I agree with Necrotic Nick. Beneath, Arise and Chaos AD are great. Every album afterwards kind of sucks.

seeing beneath the remains ranked at 6 hurts my soul
@nemesis86262 жыл бұрын
Ranking Sepultura is so difficult as they have such a diverse catalogue I would say beneath the remains is top but could quite easily be interchangeable with arise and chaos AD and honestly my least favourite is probably Morbid visions, purely because of production, the guitars sound bad and the vocal levels kind of aren't right. Atleast with there weaker material like Against it has fairly decent production and some of the tribal stuff sounds ok even if it isn't executed very well, which leads to another issue I have with morbid visions, the songs just bleed together and sound too samey, they lack individuality except maybe like troops of doom. Having said that I am a big death metal fan so if it was recorded nowadays with better production, I don't think it would be bottom. I know rubbish production can add to dark heavy albums like that but not in the case of Morbid visions

you guys should do a Soulfly Ranking

The Thralls are waiting until Soulfly's new album, Totem, drops. That album comes out August 5th [same weekend as Amon Amarth, Psycroptic and Savage Master].

@@thrallsofmetal I have the schizophrenia album. Jairo T is pictured and credited in the gold CD expanded version that came out in the 90’s from roadrunner. Now the exact date he would leave I can’t say, but Andreas’s first album was Beneath the Remains. Jairo T was credited by the band to have been way better than the other three musicians.
@thrallsofmetal5 ай бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I think he's credited for some songwriting but Andreas was on the album as well and is credited with I believe every single lead on there so as it stands Andreas' first album is still Schizophrenia.

@@thrallsofmetal yea. I had to go look. Yall got it right. Andreas first album was Schizophrenia. Somehow I got morbid visions confused with Schizophrenia. Probably because for my gold expanded editions of the first 4 albums somebody jacked my Morbid Visions/Bestial Devistation long ago. I’m enjoying yalls channel. Just found it.

Not sure if you guys were around 89 i guess a few of you were not for sure this record had a massive impact on the scene not far off on what reign in blood did 86 and opened many doors I’m sure this would of been higher on the list had you of been around for the buzz I remember seeing Sepultura for the first time supporting Sodom at the marquee as good as Sodom was nearly all the crowd were there to see Sepultura that helped to Bridge the gap between thrash and death and in turn got people into stuff like the Florida death metal scene. Sepultura number 1 album for me can’t believe one has it at 6 and another 4 criminal imo
@bschuler62163 жыл бұрын
You can actually hear similarities between Persecution Mania & Beneath The Remains, and Arise & Agent Orange. Then Tapping The Vein was totally influenced by that Death Metal scene.
