I would like to introduce you to this new project called SynthWave ROM, for the Roland W-30 sampler, which consists of changing the factory sounds of this instrument, which works by unsoldering the original ROMs, installing two sockets, and recording new eproms, with the sounds that the user wants.
This type of project was started before with my friend Bernd Brüning and Ishibashi Hisao, where they created the ROM "Vintage Analog", which consisted of sounds selected by Bernd to replace the factory sounds of the W-30, which was done successfully, which I tried and liked a lot.
But I was curious and wanted to also be able to create my own sounds and thus, make the W-30, as soon as it booted from the system disk, also make available to me the sounds that I also chose. So, with a lot of effort in choosing the ideal sounds for this project, I finally managed to make my own custom ROM.
The person responsible for making this project come to life was our friend Ishibashi Hisao, a great programmer who managed to 'understand' how the file system works and managed to decode the sounds for conversion into .bin files for the ROMs and a system disk, so that as soon as the keyboard boots, the sounds with tones and patches are correctly loaded, thus giving the instrument a new lease of life.
To Ishibashi Hisao, our many thanks for all the help and time spent on this idea, I'm sure that generous people like him are what the world needs. In my version, you will hear sounds from various synthesizers and drum machines, such as D-50, Yamaha Dx7, Tx81z, Oberheim, TR808, TR909, Minipops, VLTone, Simmons, etc.
Many thanks to Bernd, for having come up with such a sensational idea of ​​changing the factory sounds, giving this instrument a new lease of life, thank you to Keith Meiere for his constant support with his Llamamusic website, from which we can get so many good things for our old instruments, and also to Christian Medina for his support of always encouraging me whenever possible.
