Nice. Good to hear a synth demo that 1) actually sounds musical and 2) sounds pleasant. It always amazes me how rarely that happens. This demo makes me want to consider buying a Prophet 6 - it does its job perfectly.
@davebellamy48679 жыл бұрын
therealsweep1 I agree - this is a musical demo. I just listened to some other more recent demos on KZbin and they are just the same old same old noises that I heard a million times before and don't want to buy. Dave Smith should use all the patches on this demo and basically none from the other guy's semos because most of them are crap.

Best demo of the Prophet 6. It still gives me hope that I'll actually like this synth!

Prophet 6 in reality is far more fun, far more beautiful and far more powerful than ANY online demo has ever shown (you really must own one and get to know it). This demo however comes closer than most in showing its beauty!

Gorgeous! THIS is a synth. THIS is what we want. No menus. No screens. No mice. No "soft" ANYthing. Just pure, real synthesis and MUSIC, as it should be. Exquisite.
@ogasi17989 жыл бұрын
Except it's got screens in multiples, menus and plenty of 'soft stuff' inside allowing it to achieve what it does, is a nice box though.
@electroluxia9 жыл бұрын
+jamie munro The Prophet-6 had no menus, especially as compared to the Jupiter-80, which has myriads of layers of menus to slog through on a touch screen, which is unworkable. Sold my menu-ladden Jupiter- 80 and got the Prophet-6. Loving the 100% analog sound and the absence of layers of menus.
@ogasi17989 жыл бұрын
+electroluxia it does have menus, you know that if you own one. Nothing against the box, it's wonderful but its not 100% menu or digital free
@electroluxia9 жыл бұрын
+jamie munro The Prophet-6 is 100% analog, with digital FX of which can be turned off. The Prophet-12 has DCOs, digital VCOs, but with a 100% ANALOG backend. And, I said there are basically no menus on the Prophet-6 as compared to the Jupiter-80, which has ***layers*** and layers of menus. The Prophet-6 has very minimal menus, not layers and layers as on the Jupiter-80 touch screens. You can't call up anything on the Jupiter-80 without touching a layer-oriented touch screen. You can call up sounds on the Prophet-6 without any deep diving menus.

I had the same problem with only 49 keys. Solution? I bought the Prophet 6 module and the Novation SL Mk3 61 for the same price as the Prophet 6 keys. Advantage? The SL keyboard also controls my Peak synth, which saved me £800 over buying a Summit. There are ways around most problems if you use a bit of lateral thinking
@frankmason55254 жыл бұрын
No, I don’t, but I have 61 keys, £800 in my pocket and extra room in my studio. I’m more than happy with my choice, and would not change my mind.

I don’t see your point here. As long as I’m happy, and it’s not affecting you, where’s the problem?

Don't understand why this is just a 49 keys synth? Should be at least 61 for the money.
@malkytrance9 жыл бұрын
Kevin McWilliams yeah i said that somewhere else, its expensive enough for another octave surely.
@soancar9 жыл бұрын
Kevin McWilliams Dave Smith says people don´t want big keyboards cuz they work in small studios. I´d rather prefer 61 for this model too.
@kevinmcwilliams61879 жыл бұрын
That didn't stop him from making the Prophet 08 & 12 a 61 key. You make the modules for a small work space.
@EpsilonProcess9 жыл бұрын
Kevin McWilliams 61 would have been perfect, but at least it doesn't have "mini keys" like some of the other more recent reissues have. I just don't get that.
@fredrikw14479 жыл бұрын
Kevin McWilliams Totally agree. This should be 61 keys, it is such an amazing piece. I would happily pay 1 or 2 extra for 61 keys. I hesitate to get this 4 oct version because I'm a keyboard player and as such I know 49 keys is out of limit.
@FirstWizardZorander4 жыл бұрын
That pad sound is just delicious. I own a P6 and mostly use it for pads, so I'm interested in how to get that texture. Is it the reverb that does it, perhaps?

Here I am trying to work out how to raise cash for a P-6 and the price has today gone down to 1999 GBP at some UK dealers. This is a truly superior demo and the one I go to if start to forget how much I would like to get this keyboard in the next couple of months. The sounds are great; did all the patches make it onto the final version - they should have. How many tracks are on this? in other words, how many Prophet-6s do you need to buy to play it live? i do have a feeling that if I purchased this, it might be my favourite thing that I ever bought.
@starchedshirt139 жыл бұрын
+TheOmanJam --- for the most part, it was just 4 tracks. In the beginning: bass, 2 pads, and the "koto" sound. Later, a couple of arpeggiated chord tracks plus the same 2 pads and one track where I simple twiddled the filter cutoff knob on a drone sound. Pretty simple stuff, really.
@Bluums7 жыл бұрын
Can you describe how you made that ''koto'' sound? I can't figure that one out

Nice work, even if you say its simple. I'm more familiar with audio recording in PT than midi -- can you recommend any books/tutorials on workflow/techniques to layer sequence-based audio as you've done here? I have a P6, but I imagined you would sequence in software and drive the synth, but I think you're using the P6 sequencer here and just clocking it from PT -- is that right? Thanks again!
@starchedshirt138 жыл бұрын
Actually, believe it or not, I played everything live into Pro Tools without sequencing anything and simply multitracked it. It took about 6 hours to do it all, I suppose. The stuff that sounds like a sequencer is just me playing chords on the arpeggiator. There's no EQ or anything. I used the high pass and low pass filters on certain sounds to put them into certain frequency ranges.
@readytext8 жыл бұрын
Very good. This is y far the best demo of the P6 I've heard. I can only imagine how good it would be if you stretched to three chords!

Sounds nice, so what do you think about Prophet 6?
@synthetic.44khz469 жыл бұрын
+JustSomeRandomThing - Well, I work for DSI, so I'm probably biased, but it sounds very, very good. For all of its simplicity, the variety and range of sounds that you can program are pretty amazing. It's a beautiful synth and a real musical instrument - you will spend time actually making music. That's probably the best way to describe it.
